Happy to see this substantial piece of Aircraft history being repurposed.

most of these DC-3s built by Basler are the EX USAF C-47 that have the large cargo doors in place of the standard airliner door on the DC-3. as they saw service for the USAAF in WWII the USAF during Korea and Vietnam wars. as after WWII lot of these became surplus and saw good use as airliners and turboprops increasing its flexiability.

The old Gooney Bird still does what it does best better than any other aircraft around.

As someone who maintained a DC-3 in Alaska for 13 years, two marketable STC's for the DC-3, might be, utilizing a pair of Garrett turbine engines for a conversion, because they burn 30 percent less fuel than a comparable horsepower PT-6. And two engineer and install a WW2 style bomber door on the aircraft's belly with extendable latter, probably in the area below the chopper door, for crew access after the aircraft is loaded.

@@dpurplefox You've obviously never tried to get to the cockpit of a loaded DC-3, have you?

@Troy When our DC3 was loaded, we didn't have a walkway, nor did we carry a net lol

Good Ideas! Aesthetically the Garret turbine looks better than these slapped on jet engines with propellers which make the DC3's look hideous. But also from a financial and technical perspective would work very well for this aircraft.

Like it or not, the DC-3 seems to be irreplaceable.
