This Hero FINALLY Got A Rework! BTD6 / Bloons TD 6 - Corvus is good, but does his playstyle make him too unattractive to most players? This little rework in version 42 fixes some of those issues.

What has always annoyed me about BTD6 is how much the upgrade UI covers the screen. I don't really mind micromanaging Corvus, but I hate keeping his spell book up on my screen because it takes up so much space.

Honestly, the main thing they should do with him firstly before reworking, is make the book a square page that you can put wherever you want on the screen (like an app window), and maybe resize too. That way you could use spells whenever you want without the annoyance of having to click on the hero every time while covering half screen. And also you would be able to place the spellbook window wherever it's the least obtrusive.

I said this like a year ago in a comment.. why can't they just have a ui overlay that stays up all the time for these kind of heroes (corvus and geraldo). The main reason I hate using micro towers/heroes is due to this extremely bad way its currently implemented. The pain of clicking the hero, then click their spellbook, and then get half of the screen blocked is amazing for me that ninjakiwi haven't done any improvements to.

@@DMalek yeah. At least with Geraldo, he is a bit more "passive" (since most of the things you buy last long), so I can see it not being as much of a problem with him, but Corvus is way more active. They should really add that sort of box, because no rework is going to fix that issue.

Hey, maybe you don't know this, but you can solve that problem with a trick. If you click on a monkey on the right side of the map, the upgrades will show up on the left and vise-versa. But if you click on a monkey on the right and THEN click on another tower (Corvus for example) the upgrade menu will not change positions (Just need Corvus to not be to far left or right because then you can't click him).

Well I do have to say even if Corvus is extremely broken, last time I properly used him was spending 5 hours on a least tiers run for a top 1 and optimizing the hell out of the nourishments and recoveries. Most of the time I’m not bothered to spend that much effort on just a regular game because there’s no reason to when more chill heroes like Geraldo exist.

My issue with corvus isn't high micro requirement nor "high" skill min but rather the fact that playing him optimally literally just entails brainless nourishment spam to get corvus 20 to delete the 90s.

@@tpfoxCastro To your first comment, I'm talking about superplay, which I and the entirety of index do for fun in this game. Corvus is meant to appeal to players such as index, but remains fairly unsuccessful in doing as such. To your second comment - false, I'm talking about the current update. The rework did precisely fuck all to fix the issue, and instead made it even worse by making it 2 buttons to press on loop instead of 3. I love micro in this game, but even half the top index players aren't exactly willing to mindlessly press just 2 buttons on loop for the first 90% of the game. Corvus's main issue has nothing to do with "high skill requirement" or "heavy micro", as every high skill player enjoys both. Rather, the existence of nourishment means that any actual cool and clever use of corvus is just ignored because you're trying to do a hard index challenge. Corvus's skill min isn't that high, and his skill cap is actually lower than a lot of other heroes. I want a higher skill cap, not a lower one. Corvus should not be as easy to solve as nim.

the thing with Corvus is like you said he just demands so much more attention from the player to actually be good, most heroes the appeal is you can just drop them and ignore them for the rest of the game since they auto level, and Geraldo’s items are usually just used when they’re needed to support another tower, whereas Corvus basically requires you to have his spellbook open for most of the game for him to be worth using, even if he’s broken when you do put in that effort

But that's the whole point. Casuals players already have all heroes for them, let micro lovers have ONE! Like, not every hero has to be nor should be just place it and do nothing. A hero that requires constant attention like Corvus is nice and we shouldn't steal his uniqueness by making it simpler to use.

I found him kind of fun to use, but you have to focus so much on him while playing. Having to constantly nourish to get the most out of the hero is the major problem to me. If they removed nourishment from his kit, and they just increased his leveling slightly. I think the character would be much more tolerable to play with. Because then you could just use the spells when you needed rather than constantly having to micromanage him.

In my opinion, the problem that I experience playing with corvus (even though I use him alot if there's no restriction) is that his spell slot is obstructing the view too much (I'm a mobile player). Also to be fair, not everything has to be "casual-friendly". A QoL changes is welcomed, but I don't think he should be too easy lol. I'm not really good at the game by any means, (I'm not good enough at the game to do harder maps, or play against elite bosses) but I enjoy playing Corvus since I enjoy playing with alot of option. Ofc this is just my opinion

I'm not that great at the game, but I think Corvus is pretty fun. Makes you think differently, and like you said, he helps you save up a lot early on. I still usually go for Sauda, Benjamin, or Etienne, but I'll switch to Corvus if I feel like changing things up a bit.

It's crazy game design that Corvus has like ten abilities that are just "deal more damage". Just a complete noob trap that requires you to just know the arbitrary correct one.

That is just not true though, spear, storm, echo and aggression are the only abilities that directly improve his damage, malice and big hands have a tradeoff for their damage, while both overload and trample are burst damage that temporarily removes the spirit (Trample does basically nothing after the spirit charges past the bloons you want to pop until it gets to the entrance)

It's situational tho. Fire is better against slower targets, dividing is supposed to be comboed with the other spells. Rage is very cheap and doesn't do much alone, but better than nothing, good when mixed with other spells. Storm is supposed to be used against moabs thanks to their high hit-box. Spear is a "get ou of jail free card", should only use it when you are in danger because if you use it while you are not you're not going to have it for when you need it, better on large groups of Bloons. Big hands depend on Corvus' range and it mainly used on BADs, and Fortified MOABs and DDTs (regular DDTs too). Explosion is just Majin Vegeta, if it didn't kill the whole map, that's an oopsie.

​@@10503.Also, all of those have different porpuses. Aggression is the cheapest, echo is really good on comboing with other spells, doubling the value of almost all of them, spear is bad single target and storm and fire is better against moabs(larger hit-box and slower speed)

I think the worst part about corvus is the fact hes so situation dependent, but his ui can make it hard to see all the bloons. If it was a little less intrusive then it would be easier to make proper use of him.

Corvus and geraldo require alot of micro and opening of different tabs and i like btd6 on mobile so heavy micro towers are annoying to use. I wish there was a way NK could make it easier. Like being able to have corvus book or geraldos shop open all the time in a tiny square in the corner or something.

I enjoy him because he is different. My only complaint is his vision spell. You can't use it back to back when alot camos are out due it having a small cast time and a slow cool down. I almost always have to village him in order to deal with camo. Vision either needs no cool down but with a slightly higher cost in mana, or they need to reduce the cool down. The spell is not as reliable as it should be.

Corvus is conceptually really cool but I don't want to think about 16 whole spells while playing btd. They could have just given him like 4 different spells each with a specific purpose and maybe made him more of a support/buff hero.

I think I'll only feel comfortable playing Corvus if he gets scaling max mana, so that I can bank 2000 mana in the lategame without losing out. Gaining less mana if you already have some just makes the possible skill range even wider, though I think I'm fine with both

I see no reason to take the option away from good players to micro as long as other players have other options, which they already do. Corvus is already good without 100% peak effeciency, and there are many other basic heroes for players who want them.

The classic good old casual players thinking everything in every game should be accessible to them. It shouldn't be Corvus should be a complex character that requires game knowledge and micro. If you want a simpler character then pick any of the other 20 ones (except maybe Geraldo and Adora). I myself have no interest in playing Corvus just yet but I also do not want NK to dumb him down any more than he is. The price tag already suggests that it is not beginner friendly. It is just how it is sometimes a character is not made for you, sometimes a game mode is not made for you, sometimes a difficulty is not made for you, sometimes a challenge / achievement is not made for you just accept it and move on having fun with the things that are for you

While I don't particularly use Corvus, I don't know why ninja kiwi is lowering the skill ceiling for it. Sure, some people don't like to micro, but others do. I do understand bringing the overall power level down, but no reason to lessen micro for those who want to do it. We have a lot of "drop and forget" heroes already, so there's no need to dumb down a hero for this reason.

This rework is definitely a step in the right direction. Honestly my issue with Corvus has been how clunky it feels to use his abilities. I had the same issue with Geraldo, but with Geraldo, at least you generally use abilities rarely. With Corvus, though, that huge UI element and selection are up most of the time. One of the easiest fixes to that in my book would be to just have the abilities appear in the bottom row as they unlock. That would make him a bit more reliant on the player developing a firm memory of what each ability does, but they would be much less clunky to use. If UI space would be an issue, they could be part of their own little dropdown menu.

my problem with corvus is that he's playing his own game. You dont need any other towers or strategy you just open up HIS monkey menu and remember 24 spells.

They really should knock him down to the next lowest XP tier because getting level 20 before round 100 pretty much requires energizer or 20-50k to buy remaining levels. The power jump at 20 is massive and missing out on it makes more casual usage not worth it.

I always liked Corvus, plop him down in the early game and save up money. I feel Corvus only needs to be micromanaged in the late game but by then I already have a strong defense anyways. A great stepping stone hero indeed.

Would it be a bad idea to have an option to make Corvus automatic? The same way we can choose targetting, we could be able to choose between manually casting spells and automatically casting them, when you use the automatic mode you get to choose 3 spells for when bloons are at 25% 50% and 75% (like the commanche). Of course automatic mode would be miles worse than manual, but for beginners and/or people that don’t want to macro it would make him more usable, while not taking anything away from people that enjoy him like he is now

I played tons of bloons through middle school - high school. Picked up TD6 a month or so back & was checking out the heroes when someone mention Corvus was probably the strongest, but requires a decent understanding. I haven't unlocked him myself, gonna stick with Geraldo & Psi for now 😁

i think its perfectly fine how powerful he was because its 10x easier to do almost anything else with another hero, he just has the ability to do more based on skill and effort. nerfing that at all is not something i like. i dont think he needs to be more accessible because for someone who wants that, all they have to do is use another hero, or even a micro based tower

Corvus is so good in half cash and red border chimps, really nice that he can often just save a run with better micro. Imo, the base game mid-round farming/tower placement/upgrade micro is just too much to handle while using Corvus, kinda wish NK nerfs buying towers mid-round, like towers wouldn't generate end of round cash/benefit from banana upgrades until the next round. Obviously they'd need to raise global cash generation by like +5%, but it would make bosses so much more fun and make the game more fair for mobile/console players

Corvus is extremely powerful, even when looking from a new player perspective. But for me, there is a coupe issues 1. He is micro intensive it requires full attention, something that I can’t give 100% of the time 2. Why use this guy when other options exist that make the game easier? Why use him over sauda on most easy maps? 3. He is so complex that if would require more time to get a little better, not worth it. He’s super strong, I just think his design it’s what hurts him which is sad.

Every other hero besides Sauda and Geraldo are forgotten. Because they're the best by far. Sauda is easy early-game, Geraldo is what EVERYONE uses for anything else...ISAB, real talk, when was the last time you used Churchill, outside of when patches change him? What about Obyn? Psi? No other heros get love anymore, and that's a shame.

When you play with Covus as your hero you're not playing Bloon TD6. You are playing Corvus mini RTS desguised as a TD game.

I know this is supposed to be a Corvus vid, but I will ALWAYS pair Apache Prime with Icicle Impale if I can. The Apache's only problem is keeping up with DDTs, and Impale is the ultimate DDT detergent, while providing acceptable, if not spectacular, MOAB damage

I usually just get sabo. Any slowdown massive helps withs ddts. Cause the reason why ddts are hard is cause they are spaced out and apache only hits one. Slow effects make them clumb up and apache shreds

four me the "problem" with corves is nourishments. i like it as a consept. but using it is so annoying. with the constant cliking of that one dam button. its especially bad if you are on ipad. i feel like i cant focus on eny thing cose i need to keep up the button timer. mabey if there made it a toggled passive that gives you xp but only gives you half mana. so you toggle it off when you are about to get to a scary round fx 63. and you keep it on during rounds you know you can survive

Hotkey settings have additional hotkeys which you can bind as of 42.0. Included in these hotkeys are Gerry/corvus item/spell hotkeys.

Corvus is fun in 4-player co-op since money making is so slow early game it gives you something to do lmao.

Corvus is insane on single path maps, if you don’t mind the micro. Managed to save up to Flying Fortress on geared chimps with him

I have a simple way to make corvus more viable for casuals, without making it too easy for tryhards, AND i wouldn't change a single thing about him. Add a retry last round button to every game mode. Doesn't have to give you any money or CD reset, just let people try the last round again. The problem with Corvus isn't the micro, it's the timing and resource management. People fat finger all the time on devices, they look away at a key moment or use resources to early and have nothing for later. A retry button would make that part of corvus so much easier to manage without ruining chimps mode, since it's already in chimps mode. If they want to monetize fine. Let us buy Retry lives with the monkey cash or get gifted retries for map editor rewards.

But, that's the whole point. It's a risk reward situation, without the risk who cares about the reward? Like, if I can ALWAYS just retry last round, why would I use Sauda when I have infinite tries with Corvus. No one would ever use Corvus on easy or Medium mode, that's idiotic and if you are using him on hard mode, you HAVE to be and probably are good wig him already, so it's not really necessary. It's a really good hero that needs a lot of skill and focus to use, it is very risky but very strong, removing the risk would make it kinda pointless

@@tpfoxCastro that risk already doesn't exist. You can just buy your way through levels with monkey cash. What I propose is a limited resource that you would need to grind, create content, or actually purchase inorder to maintain a harder difficultly that doesn't give you resources mid game. And if you play chimps you know that retry last round doesn't guarantee a win. If you burned your resources 2 rounds ago then you lose. Rather it's a QoL feature, that let's you complete a challenge without needing perfection. Those who attain perfection get an extra reward in black border. This would just be QoL feature that lets people play at their desired difficulty.

To me corvus is just a more complex version of psi who is already really strong so unless you are completely grinding the game theres no reason to play him
