Apparently, the way that maps are ranked is based off of how many gimmicks it has. Quarry is suuuuuper long but it also has a shorter MOAB route like Cargo and Workshop (though to be honest, if you just put all your towers at the middle/end of the track it barely matters)

He always allows crosspaths if the tower can go past tier 3, because then you can have the tower's main path meet the conditions of the challenge. If he only had t2 upgrades and went for one t2 upgrade and then a crosspath that doesn't meet challenge requirements, it would be hard to justify the tower being legit for the challenge because there are the same amount of challenge-allowed than challenge-restricted upgrades

I mean, you do this on Spice Islands by default simply because there's like no land space for ground towers. That being said, if it were on a map with very little water, that might be a bigger challenge where the hardest part is knowing the budget to get the good heli and plane towers while getting enough utility to keep the MOABs from leaking. It's probably going to end up with a Sky Shredder (5-x-x plane) for main dps, several Ground Zeroes (x-4-x plane) and a bunch of downdrafts (x-3-x Heli) for cleanup.
