I live in a very rural area. Our one and only option is Century Link. No other available. Our “speed” is 12 mb, just recently upgraded from .7. (Dial up). We have a good sized two story with basement. When the tech installed the router, he put it on the second story in a middle bedroom. I now have a basement office that is getting less than 6 mb and it cuts out frequently We have Ethernet wired through quite a bit of the home, including very close to the basement office. From your video, I think I’m going to upgrade to mesh as there are a number of walls and floors I’ll need to go through wherever I put the router. Should I incur the expense of moving the router to the main floor from the second story, or just get the mesh and two auxiliary units? I guess the question is, does it matter if the router is in the middle and auxiliary ones at the extreme ends, or will it be as effective if they are router to auxiliary to auxiliary in series? Your video is extremely well done with no stupid music blaring in the background and very concise. Well explained without being redundant Thanks

We recently switched from: * 200Mbps Spectrum with our trusty-but-old AirPort Extreme 802.11ac (I gather nowadays called “WiFi 5”), to * “1Gbps” Google Fiber and the two free “Nest” mesh routers that came with it. I’m finding the WiFi speed to be all over the map: Typically 500-650Mbps in line-of sight of the routers, but all-too-often dropping *_way down_* to below 100Mbps, occasionally as low as 20Mbps for short times. I’ve only done one wired hookup so far, and the speed was *_a lot_* more consistent. Fair chance I’ll switch back to our old AirPort Extremes!

The problem with most installers (myself included) is they do have the knowledge about products, but their company has strict orders for them not to recommend products. Main reason being is if there is an issue that arises, then that installer, the company included, gets blamed. Most ISPs have a bad rep already, so to add that would make things even worse. I try to recommend mesh WiFi every time, and I make sure that I say it’s my personal recommendation, not the company’s.

Also, he didn't use the 5ghz plug for the fiber jack. He said that it wouldn't speed anything up. Is he being honest or maybe doesn't know. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
@BTheInstaller3 жыл бұрын
Well if you aren't getting high speeds in all corners of your apt, then I would move to better it with the tips here. There is always loss of "some" signal strength if buried in a closet. You will always get more signal quality if two or more units are used as one can't cover the same area. So all of these tips still stand true.

Don't waste your time running Wifi as it is very slow and not consistent!! I run cat6a cable throughout my house. Have a Synology 8-bay NAS with 8 seagate fast exnos drives running raid 6 array with intel dual 10Gbe ethernet in running link aggregation on both ports to my 10Gbe switch. All my pcs are also connected to 10Gbe network switch and they are running fast Samsung M.2 SSD along with intel dual 10Gbe ethernet cards. I am get SUSTAINED transfer speeds of 1,200 MegaByte or 1.2GB per second!!! With that speed that can move a 4.7GB DVD movie through the network in under 5 seconds.

I have spectrum gig and orbi rbr50 with 3 satellites in 4,700 sq ft and still have issues. Had eero but switched to orbi. Much better. Thinking of going to WAP system like ubiquiti, araknis or ruckus. Thoughts?

Araknis? Ruckus? Never heard of them. I've only heard of Ubiquiti's enterprise hardware.

What up B! Question for you and yes my wife sucks! We live in Scottsdale and the only provider is cox cable and they have a monopoly. And are expensive. Wanting to cut the cord we were sold a ATT Netgear nighthawk m6 pro. The unit is in our living room and the internet is alway always buffering won’t play and on and on. When we first got the unit we got reception in our bedroom about 0 feet away now it doesn’t. What in the world can we do help. 🙏

You will laugh at this but we live in the sticks and have tmobile satilite wifi upload 35 download 12. It works okay for us but we need coverage downstairs and in our barn which is 150 ft from the house with steel walls. what would you suggest?

We're in the area of Riverside California, and we have spectrum, and we have an eero pro 6 mesh router and we still not getting the speed that we're paying for. We have contacted Spectrum, and the technicians have come once the technicians leave. Our speed goes back to slow speed 😢 not sure why I think they do something so we don't have the speed we're paying for. We don't know what to do. Can you please help us with what to do with this matter? we'll appreciate it.

Question: currently using an external EZ Bridge Light point to Point Extender to get wifi signal from my detached home office to my home. My netgear router in my home picks up the signal but signal is weak in one area of the house. Will the Netgear Orbiesh network work with existing Netgear router or does the system come with a router that replaces the one I am currently using?

I have Google Fiber with mesh. It is supposed to switch between 2.4 and 5.0. It does not get 2.4 at all and I can't use any of my smart devices. Very frustrated.

I have had nothing but issues with eero. We have to reset it once to twice a day. It always go out, our internet is connected on the modem! But the mesh wifi just goes out. All the damn time. The customer service is really bad.

I've tried several Mesh systems and my conclusion is they're decent for small to medium spaces but don't do so well in 5000 sq ft or greater multi-level homes, despite their claims. In my opinion it's better to spend the money for a few strategically-placed wired data jacks and then connect simple cheap nodes in AP mode with wired connections back to the router.

Its not possible for everyone to build that out. I've had success with Orbi for large homes.. 4 unit can handle 8k Sq ft house pretty well. I have the newer ax4200 3 node and it is ridic..

John: Not sure about that, I have access to my neighbors Orbi mesh network (they're friends). Single family neighborhood, they're house is about 80' away.

@@krehbein Yea, I was just sharing my experience. As the saying goes, your mileage may vary.

@@GunnyPhillips very true. When you do the nodes you mentioned, do you have to manually connect to them, or is there a way to connect automatically based on signal?

I’m upgrading my local network and I’m confused. Have had AirPort Extreme for many years without problems but not any longer. More units connecting wireless is on thing. New router from the cable provider it’s now SageMVOM F@st 5370e from Telia. (I live in sweden) I’ve bought TP Link Deco AX 1890 Wi-Fi 6 system 2 pieces. My apartment ain’t big. What’s best Telia as a router and TP Link as access points? Or the other way around?
