Darren, to turn on the backlight, you can just cover the sensor above the display with your hand for a while and then the backlight will turn on automatically for a few seconds, just like my (and your) UT89X.

Ive got one of these 770N's and its one of the best value meters out there for pure functionality with good accuracy, it also has a couple added features ya just dont expect to see in most $25 meters such as almost 4 volts in the diode range, lighted range selector, jack shutters, clamp capability in both AC and DC, 100mF cap range, etc. and I dont really count heavily on NCV as on so many meters its only so-so in functionality. As I said I have a 770N myself as well as a decent manual range version which I liked well enough to buy this autorange version. I love the 770N's high degree of pure functionality you get for the price, strictly as a DVOM it simply performs as it should and a bit more in some cases, many budget meters are sometimes slow or inaccurate or do not even meet their basic specs. My only serious complaint with both versions I have is in the mA fuse area. I really commend BT for the excellent battery cover fuse access, thats huge in a cheap meter, in any meter for that matter - but for some reason both of my BT meters in this line have two different height fuse clips on the mA side, and one is noticeably taller than the other leaving the fuse with a poor fit and sitting at an odd angle which ive never seen in any meter before. The fact the fuses are glass doesnt bother me so much as those are easily changed to ceramic, but myself I was so irritated by the fact that ive got two of these meters and both have this fuse clip situation and it appears they dont seem intent on fixing such a simple but important defect. Theres a part snafu on the assembly line somewhere between operations and incredibly no one has caught it. I like the meter enough that I finally just ordered the correct fuse clips at very low cost and replaced both on the mA side and now the mA fuse fits perfectly and sits level in both meters, but I shouldnt have to do this - another option some might take is to solder in a resettable poly fuse of the correct value in the 800 mA location, though again I shouldnt have to do this. But I will still say this meter is still a great value for the money, it gives so much accuracy and functionality in this low price range its really hard to fault it for anything considering its only $25, in fact if it werent for the weird fuse clip snafu I would really have no major complaints, but since the fuses are a big part of this meters already minimal input protection they should at least fit correctly, I hope somehow BTmeter gets the word on this subject because this is a great meter for hobbyists DIYers and beginners especially with the jack shutters to keep a newbie from damaging his meter accidentally, as Darren said this is not a meter for serious high current work but then no $25 meter is. IF YOURE LISTENING BT METER, PLEASE FIX THOSE mA FUSE CLIPS, we like youre meter and its a good value but fuses are a safety device and they need to fit correctly. Also BT if youre not going to give us any more PTC's or any MOV's how about throwing in ceramic fuses instead of these little glass pipe bombs-? I know ive been somewhat critical here, but not without good reason, this is a decent meter but fuses are important enough they should at least fit right - but my last word is its a good meter and a great value and thats why I bought one even knowing the fuse situation before hand, but a buyer should fix the mA fuse clip situation just to make it right - Just my opinion.

Hi - In my lengthy comment above, I have this meter and like it but I wanted word to get out about the mA fuse situation - I have this meter and a similar one in manual range and for some reason all these meters have two different height fuse clips on the mA side and because of this the mA fuse fits poorly in its clips and sits at an odd angle, I still like the meter its a great bargain functionality wise but I finally just ordered new fuse clips (cheap) and soldered new ones in so the mA fuse fits right in both meters. They offer a screaming deal with this meter and even though I already knew this fuse issue existed in my manual range version I still bought the the 770N autoranger because the manual range version performed so well. As I said I replaced the fuse clips and installed ceramic fuses in place of the little glass pipe bombs so many of these meters come with-lol That aside its a good meter for the hobbyist, DIYer or anyone as long as they stay away from big voltage and currents, not that it wont measure it accurately it will - but if a mistake was made in range selection or a power surge etc. I wouldnt want to be holding any meter like this in my hand - maybe im being overly dramatic but we are playing with electricity after all. Its a good meter but they should at least fix the mA clips and give us some ceramic fuses. 'Nuff said.
@numerical_error4 жыл бұрын
@@yambo59 I see. I must say, that's the first time I hear about this kind of problems. I don't know if this is a manufacturing flaw, poor design or what. But you're right. They'd better sort it out. I guess they don't intend this meter to be used with high current and voltage. But they rate it for 20A and 1000V. That's slightly misleading. To a degree it's common for the Chinese manufacturers to focus on the spec and cut costs on input protection. But you're right to be worried about safety with those 20mm glass fuses and one small PTC. Thanks for taking your time to write such an in-depth comment. It's really helpful.
