Good you mentioned that 11:31. The SL and SL lenses are designed for all weather conditions. With my SL2-S and the APO-Summicron-SL 2/75 (my favourite lens, I shoot 97% of every use case with it) I shot an event for 2 hrs in heavy pouring rain, and had zero issues with the SL2-S and the lens. You have some great photo. My Sl3 arrived on Friday and I am still adjusting to it. i have knocked the ISO a little bit, however not a big deal. I do prefer the dial and I actually like the power button as I am using it, wakes and ready faster. I prefer the shutter sound on my Sl2. not sure why it sounds different. The auto focus is much better and the menu is great and works well. Like all new tools, will take some more time to be 100% comfortable with it.

Medium format 16bit color vs 14bit full frame. It’s not really a comparison when it comes to image quality but it’s about the versatility of the camera. Pure image quality medium format wins. Faster AF, video and more lens choices seem to favour full frame currently.

Hey Bobby, Love your vid and that of the H X2D. Weird question - Would you happen to know how does the SL3’s video performance in low light compare to that of the much older Canon R5 please ? Reason for asking, is I’m using the R5, and if the SL3’s video performance in low light isn’t too much better than the R5’s then I might stick to the R5 for videos and grab the H X2D purely for stills… Else I’ll jump in on the SL3 for the versatility and sacrifice the image quality of the X2D instead… Weird comparison I know !

Hi Rafael! Thanks for watching. Sure, the Autofocus works in a couple ways. It’s a hybrid AF system where single AF is primarily contrast based where AFc is phase detect. The subject detection is very similar to the new Panasonic cameras S5II as they do share technology. For still subjects it’s very comparable to the big three (Sony, Nikon, Canon) but if you are looking to track fast moving subjects it’s not quite there yet. I guess you could say it’s more in line with whereFujifilm is currently in that way.

I ended up selling everything and buying the nikon z9 and the Hasselblad x2d, and the autofocus of the z9 was an eye opening experience for me personally. Now that Nikon is on their way to owning red, I am going to stay put. The z9 ticks so many boxes.. For anyone considering the leica system i would strongly suggest renting one first before jumping in and committing to it like i did. it's much cheaper in the long run to rent one and return it vrs buying and selling it.

Yes it’s really a camera you need to get in your hand to test to see the potential like you and your colleague experienced. Like most Leica stuff, you just want to have it, and the moment you do hold it you are screwed you know that you will buy it. What I like: IQ seems nice, tilt screen seems nice marginally smaller and lighter is nice. I was very happy with menu and physical button setup of an SL2S. What I don’t like: battery life seems pretty bad. I mean even fuji improved battery life on the vi vs the v. Don’t like the time code port I will never use it and think it looks obtrusive and ugly. Would have loved a double hinged LCD. But quite surprised there is no content authentication chip or internal storage - Leica is a pioneer on these things and did not implement them on this Flagship camera. Bobby, one question, did you get any idea if Leica can eventually via FW implement a Nikon Zf type of manual focus assist (zooming in on eye) when punching in using manual focus/lenses? Thanks for the Video!!
@btonelli6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. The battery life is an improvement over the SL2 for sure. For photography it’s not bad. For video it will take a hit over time but to be expected. Yes the time code port feels out of place on it and not sure the reasoning but perhaps in future firmware updates it will make more sense. The authentication chip issue was asked in Wetzlar and from my understanding it was availability for production etc. perhaps we will see it in more cameras but the technology is still in its infancy stage and other manufacturers are adding it as firmware so perhaps Leica will do the same. Actually there is subject detection for manual focus lenses and it’s similar to the Zf. I will do a separate video on this.

The reason why i ask about this is that im thinking about upgrading my SL2s and with the price that Leica asks for SL3 GFX seems to be a good option if auto focus reliably, speed and accuracy are at the same level on both platforms. Plus with adapter in 35mm mode L and M lenses work good and the resolution in 35 mode is pretty much the same as SL3.
