So I will explain the wordplay in the Cypher for you as well this is going to be a long comment: RM VERSE 30:25 “Rap is an easy genre to them, too many generals”. The term ‘general’ in that line has a double meaning. First, ‘generals’ as in people in “power”/who think they have some sort of skill and authority in the rap game because they feel like rap is such an easy genre to them/ as in too many people who think they can rap. And also "generals" as in generality/common/basic, as too many peasants/basic people who again think they can rap because rap is such an easy genre to them which then ties this to the following line when he says "all you mundane people, have some manners". Mundane as in common/basic/ low level. 31:06 This line right here “Oh shit play the beat backwards, You’re like a sewer but I’m tender” is very clever too. In korean the word for 'sewer' is 'ha-su-gu' which implies that the person he's talking about stinks like a sewer as in he has no skills and the word for 'tender' is 'gu-su-ha' and is literally the word sewer spelled backwards and it implies two things, first, that RM is tender-hearted/as in he feels bad for them and also implies that he is a good guy and second, in korean "gu-su-ha" when used in terms of food especially meat, means that the food is well-cooked, tender, well-seasoned which implies that RM is well-seasoned , well-done meaning he is super skilful while the other guy (the sewer) stinks. That line then is revisited again when RM refers to himself as a butcher who cuts away dead skin like a boss. 32:11 Another extremely clever and layered play one words, "I'm not Budha but I'm a butcher, I'll cut away your skin like a boss" (the last part "boss" kinda whispered). The word for Budha (who preaches peace, and unity and harmony and the value of living things) in Korean is "Boochuh" and when pronounced a certain way can also mean "to add something or to attach something/or to put something together" (continuing the harmony and unity theme) and so RM follows that line "I'm not Budha" by "but I'm a butcher" which not only rhymes with "boochuh/Budha" but is also thematically the complete opposite of what "Budha/Boochuh" stands for because a 'butcher' separates/tears apart/kills. And RM comparing himself to a butcher can have different meanings because the line is followed by "I'll cut away your flesh like a boss" so it means like this rapper to him is "dead meat" as in he will tear him apart on this beat for the world to see, but it also implies that he is doing the world a service by "discarding/doing away" with the "dead meat" like a butcher does because a butcher kills but also provides a service to the population by providing them with "meat" for them to eat which is what RM is essentially doing by "tearing him apart" in this song for "our entertainment. 32:22 "Make money from rocks, just sell rocks, you frauds" is a play on words. In korean, the word for rock is 'dol', a rock seller is a "dol-pal-ee" but the word for rocker seller means fraud/charlatan/conman so he is basically calling them frauds/conmen who don't really have the skill to back up their trade and also telling them to stop bullsh*ting and to find career paths that match their skill levels as in they are only adequate to be 'rock sellers/cobblers'.

JHOPE VERSE 33:06 I promise the moaning is intentional and makes sense for J-Hope's verse cuz he ends up calling the haters a bunch of girls who keep moaning and thirsting after them, I'll explain further 33:22 "But I'm getting a bite and all the touting girls call me Pippi" is supposed to be "But I'm taking the bait, and all the touting girls/women call me Pippi" this line may be confusing but I promise it makes sense. the line before that line says "I'm too busy for them to compare me, and talk smack about me" which implies that he's too busy to hang out with them, and be compared to them but nonetheless the smack talk has reached his ears (I'll take the bait/i'm taking the bait) even though to him, they all sound like a bunch of girls/women gossiping. The word "Pippi/Bibbi" is an onomatopoeia that mimics the sound of a beeper or an alarm. First, when attached to "all the women call me" it reflects the sound of a beeper like messages constantly coming in from girls all around the world (as in he's a popular guy with the ladies) but also it implies that they talk/gossip so much that he always get news/messages about them like a beeper constantly going off (as he is super popular with them too/like with the girls/women he compared them to). Second, when attached to the line that follows it "Who is talking smack about me? tell them to look at their own situation before doing so", 'Pippi/bibbi' becomes an alarm/warning (which is why there's a slight pause after he says it) implying that this sh*t is not cute and that they should stop and reflect on themselves before coming at other people/him, and that what they are doing is ultimately hurting them because when they should be improving their skills and trying to level up, they spend that time talking smack about him who's already several levels above them. Also Pippi can be the beep sound that sensors a curse words (related because it precedes him saying who is talking “shit” about me/ who is cursing at me)
@ginouclint78454 жыл бұрын
SUGA'S VERSE 34:52 As you know already Daegu is where SUGA is from and Apgujeong is a main part of seoul almost like an art district 35:07 "Riding the haycutter that's my beat, I'm a baby shaman, that's me" a better translation of this line would be "My beat is a blade/haycutter, and I ride it, a baby shaman, that's me". This is a reference to Korean Shamanism, where the "shaman or shamaness (like a priest or priestess)" basically gets possessed by a spirit (which he refers to as the spirit of his music) and walks on a blade. It's a feat of agility, balance, and divinity which is why he compared himself to a shaman walking on a blade meaning that when gets possessed by the spirit of his music, he rides the beat with as much divine agility, skill and balance as a shaman does a blade during shamanistic rituals. 35:20 "Did you know that half of my appearance on TV is kagemusha?". The term "kagemusha" is used to describe a political decoy or something used to distract or hide the truth from others or from the masses like a conspiracy or something that might frighten the people. So that line implies "you don't know me" because the image of me that you see on TV is not all there is to me and if I ever show you who I am I might just scare the f*ck out of you so be careful. 35:25 "You try to make sounds with your bird tongue" would be better translated as "you try to wield you 3-inch tongue". The term '3-inch tongue' is a part of a famous Korean idiom which goes something like "If you speak foolishly with your 3-inch tongue, you will eventually pay for it". It often means someone who doesn't know how to talk/ who doesn't know the time or place to say things and who's super bad at evaluating what he should and should not say thus sounds cheap/uneducated and often ends up putting their foot in their mouths or sounding dumb." 35:45 "You can try to get me with those little words, I'll just become stronger. It's a mystery/wonder". The term used to mean 'mystery/wonder' in this part is 'Bulgasal-i' and the literal translation would be "can not be killed", Bulga (cannot)sal-i (killed/murdered) from a korean legend/myth about a creature who grows bigger and stronger by eating Iron (used in weapons like swords/lances etc... which are usually weapons used to attack back then) and that's fascinating/mysterious/wondrous. So that line could also translate to "it's fascinating/wondrous/legendary how your insults make me grow stronger" and it ties to the next line. 35:47 "I'm a starfish that grows by eating your jealousy and envy". The korean word for starfish, "Bulgaralee/bulgasaree" not only rhymes with the word he used for "mystery/bulgasal-i" but also derives from it because some starfish have regenerative properties which allow them to regrow their limbs after being damaged. That's it! I hope this helped

@@ginouclint7845this is something I read about jhopes part on twitter but I'll try to explain it with my two cents as well. the English translation for the lyrics would be something like this in real: "But when my fishing line's taut, I become a tout, and all the unnies blow up my phone" Tout means a guy whose job is to go around soliciting ppl to get into the night clubs they work for. they mostly go out to the streets to hand out flyers, tug ppl in, etc. They're also inside the clubs trying to get girls to go into rooms where guys pay a hefty sum for the table and booze. So as you can imagine, 삐끼s are usually smooth talking, outgoing, humorous, flirtatious, etc. And sometimes they'll call women "unnie" to take out the male factor, basically they're trying to appeal to the women as funny, harmless (=non-male) dongsaengs who want their unnies to have a fun and wild night out. So to breakdown that lyric: "When my fishing line is taut" = When fish take the bait 👉When people take an interest in what he's offering as a rapper "I become a tout" 👉I become a smooth talker who draws in the crowd And since he's portraying as the tout, he says unnie instead of noona. I hope that explains things a bit more about that line for anyone confused about why he says unnie.

Your reaction to Let Me Know is a whole mood 😂Let Me Know is definitely one of my faves off the album. And a lot of BTS' old music is structured that way - rap during the verses and then vocals during the chorus. I really enjoy it when they structure songs that way 😊💜 Your reaction to the moaning in the background of Hobi's verse in Cypher 3 was hilarious 😂 And I'm glad you finally got to Yoongi's famous line 😉 I'm sure he does too 😏 I'm glad you're enjoying the album so far !! ' whether a guy or a girl my tongue will make you come ' Yoongi lowkey coming out lol. I wanna add that he always supported the LGBT community ( bts were asked in an interview with Billboard about the LGBT community(( they asked about the tweet that RM made in 2013 about the song 'same love' if I remember)) and RM was kinda dancing around the question, like bts always do when the subject is a bit too much, but then Suga said, “There is nothing wrong. Everyone is equal". Even the interviewer was impressed and wrote that Suga knows exactly where he stands) Yoongi studied liberal arts and is definitly more on the fck the government and fck capitalism side. I cannot love him more haha. (You can see glimpses of that, but sometimes he will say it with the exact words, like in that one run episode 🤣) Also bts were many times asked about their ideal type in interviews and radios and he was always answering "a girl with... or "someone with... and it was always something like "with cool headphones", "with a personality that matches mine" , "someone who likes music" etc. Even when the question was about the physical appearances, he was always responding on the same way. He's proven many times that he doesn't care about physical appearances or styles for ex. When answering fansign questions throught the years(when he was asked about perfect weight he said 80 kg, when asked about what he prefers the body or the face, he wrote his own answer: personality), or in that one interview when the members were talking about ideal types ((because of 'miss right' song)) and after the interviewer asked Suga what he notices first in a girl. (You know, the legs or the face haha) And he said no matter who he meets, he focuses on the personality and the atmosphere. Later in the same interview (yes, I'm re reading the whe thing now) he said "So I would like to a date with a person who balanced to me, and I want a very very ordinary love story. " Wheter he's bi it straight, I love his mindset when it comes to stuff like this.
@dublew62904 жыл бұрын
I wanna clarify that there was quite a controversy about thr interview I mentioned before, because the translations were saying that Yoongi said " I focus on the personality and atmosphere and it's not limited to a girl " and it caused a big misunderstanding. Better translations are easy to find now. (And I referred to those when quoting the interview)
@thekpopanalysis7 ай бұрын
I don't think that necessarily means he's bi or pansexual,he could just want to make sure there's no misunderstanding with his fans or for his fans to think he's anti LGBTQ+ you know?? It's hard to know exactly what he meant or what his sexuality is until he says it

Cypher pt.3 - Kagemusha, is a Japanese political decoy. JHOPE verse when he say pippi; 삐삐 (bbibbi) is a pager/beeper, so it could be (1) “all the girls, call me, page me.” Or, since bbi- is commonly used as an onomatopoeia of censoring sounds, it could also be (2) “all the girls call me ‘XX’,” where XX is some unknown word -Cr: www.google.com/amp/s/doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com/2019/03/11/bts-cypher-pt-3-killer/amp/

This is such a great album! Honestly, so many epic songs. Rain is my favorite! Second Grade has a really iconic live from the HYYH concert and Embarrassed/Blanket Kick is the one where JiHope make out every live performance (TaeJin gets a little randy too...) so a compilation of that would be funny. haha Also, in the lives of Cypher 3, Hobi adlibs a freaking moan right after Suga says his tongue will make you come. So that's a thing that happens many many times. Bless.

I love Rain too !! The rap over the jazz beat works so well 😩 I really love the start how it transitions from Joon speaking to rapping and then when Hobi starts his verse off singing and then switches in to rap - it's so fun. Second Grade live is also awesome !! Can we please take a moment to appreciate how Hoseok switches his flow up 4 times in less than 30 seconds? We love a king 👏🏻 Blanket Kick live is also fun !! It should be said though, JiHope don't _actually_ make out since they cover their mouths with their hands (don't want Anitra to get her expectations up to high if she does go to react to it 😂), but I love how randy both JiHope and Taejin get in the live performances 😝 In one of the Blanket Kick performances, Hobi famously pushes Jimin down onto the bed too 😂😏 They're so wild and a compilation would be fun 😂

Hip hop lover is such bop. They go off on the live version. I love how RM listed his favourite rappers while everything rhymed so perfectly love 🤩🤩 Also, in this song the 3 rappers mentioned Epik High as their inspiration. His song 'Fly' was the song that led Yoongi and Namjoon to love this genre. It's crazy that both of them started to be seriously interested in rap after hearing the same song! What's even more amazing is that Yoongi has produced the song 'Eternal Sunshine' for Epik High and Epik High recommended him for the songer Lee Sora, when she wanted to have Epik High as a feature her song 'Song Request'. How good must Yoongi feel, being able to work with his biggest idol and inspiration 🤩

Dark&Wild was a shift in their sound, they definitely weren’t kidding with the title. Gone is the sappy, innocent attitude of the last 3 albums. Now, we have an angsty and rather angry group of young men (and one boy baby baby Koo) who are being unleashed. -"Hip Hop Lover"- the guys are describing why they love hip hop and how they came into the game (the rappers in particular). The best thing about this song is that they don’t leave the non-rappers out. They still get their parts. It sort of gives the impression that all seven members are united in their love of the hip hop genre. -“Let Me Know”- is the SUGA-produced, pre-released track from the album. SUGA did a good job. Largely electronic, the song is different from most on the album, which is why it’s made such a great pre-release. And yes like every time SUGA produces a song V vocals are amazing . And of course Jimin and the high crazy notes... cheff kiss. -"Rain"- Could the music for “Rain” be more suitable for such a title? The jazzy mixed with scratching and a hip-hop beat is perfect to listen in a rainy day (it's on my spotify sad days list for a reason) -"Cypher3"- Diss track with videogames instrumental and this 3 fine men? oh hell yeah as the title said is a "Killer" but what a sweet death it was XDDD See ya in the next part 💜

If you're interested in jazz rap, I recommend music by Noname, especially since you've said that you prefer rap music that's more melodic, and I think you'd appreciate her lyrics. Jazzhop was big in the 90's and is still used by some rappers like Noname nowadays - another recent example is Kendrick Lamar's album To Pimp a Butterfly.

And Namjoon recently played a jazz rap song in his KZbin livestream called Always Shine by Robert Glasper Experiment. I recommend checking it out if you haven't already!

I can't decide between Cypher 3 and Cypher 4 as my favorite Cypher. I think it would be Cypher 3 if Supreme Boi wouldn't be in it.🙈 They totally should've let Tae do his parts 😂 I respect him as a producer and acknowledge the great work he contributes to the songs, but I don't like him as a person and I'm still wondering why BTS are friends with him. But that's a differenct topic. Cypher 3 is defnitely a masterpiece! YOONGI'S VERSE IS ICONIC. The Red Bullet Live (one of the things shown during bangbangcon) of this Cypher is aweseome! They get so worked up, it's kinda hot :D There is a Sope fanfic out there based on that Cypher, if you want I'll send it to you 😁
