You completely got the emotion of the song. It is believed that this song and choreography relate to the Sewol Ferry Incident in SK, where hundreds of high school students tragically died. At the time BTS released the song, the government was suppressing mentions of the incident, and there was a beautiful subversiveness in the fact that they released it anyway. The government changed, and the song won song of the year in South Korea in 2017. The connection to the incident is widely known; a father of one of the victims has thanked BTS for memorializing the children through the song. It is also believed that the choreography may be intended to actually depict the ferry incident and the children entering the afterlife. When the song was performed on music shows, the setting and graphics on stage supported this idea, but BTS and Mr. Son have never come out and confirmed it, preferring to let viewers draw their own interpretations.

This is exactly the reason why Spring Day is one of my favourite BTS songs of all time. It’s absolutely beautiful what they’re doing with their music/art. BTS are fucking revolutionising popular music, daring to be different and talking about so many difficult topics, through a such a variety of mediums such as dance, acting/theatre, visual art, music, narrative storytelling... I strongly believe they’ll go down in history as legendary artists.

Choreography had nothing to do with it and the music video was not related though to the incident. Ppl need to stop saying it is like a fact. Namjoon actually said it wasn’t intended but still glad ppl found got a emotional connection to spring day.

Amina A They may not be able to admit it outright, but I think it’s pretty clear in the choreography and messages in the music video and music itself. Sure, “technically it has nothing to do with anything specific”. The very beginning of the choreo features a ‘sinking prow of a ship/boat’, where Jimin is struggling and reaching towards the tip. You see this ‘sinking prow’ again when Jin emerges from within the ‘boat’ formed by the members and walks towards V at the bridge. And Jimin at the beginning is mirrored at the end with Jin reaching out to Jimin (in the same position on the groun), this time kneeling to give a hug. Not to mention the very overt inclusion of ‘Omelas’ in the music video, which is a short story about a ‘city of happiness’, a utopian society that locks a single child to live in darkness, filth and misery, underneath the city, in exchange for a perfect society. When citizens are old enough, they learn about this child, and even though they are shocked/horrified at first, they accept it - except for a few people who choose to walk away from Omelas - and no one knows where they go/end up. There are also multiple references to trains and Snowpiercer, a film based on a French graphic novel about a train that travels around the globe in a fixed loop, because climate change forced all survivors onto the train. The train is split into the luxury carriages in front and the “scum” near the back. The film is about lower class/discriminated people deciding to stage a revolt/rebellion and move up to the engine & high class carriage and take over. They succeed but destroy the train, and emerge to see a polar bear - and find there is life outside the train despite what they were told. You can also see references to trains all over the choreo and music video. In the music video, there are also mountains of clothes that have been washed by machine, piled high with no visible owners. BTS sits on top of those clothes. They show shoes with shoe laces tied and hung on tree branches, a symbol showing that someone has died. The members are visibly upset in scenes, recalling memories, flying paper airplanes, standing still as the world moves around them, trying to support each other/cheer each other up in sadness, “winter passes and spring will come”... If the parallels in Spring Day aren’t obvious enough in your opinion, then I don’t know what is lol But sure, it’s not “officially about the incident”.

This song has nothing to do with that incident, in fact, namjoon and yoongi said they made the song thinking about their friends. However, people said the mv remind them of that incident, which namjoon didnt clearly said that it was made for that, instead he want to leave interpretation up to people.

Alysha, your reaction brought me to tears, as watching this dance practice does every time. You were so well-attuned to the dance and the emotions they were conveying. They don’t feel they can come out and openly say that this song is about the ferry tragedy, but the lyrics and the choreography so easily fit the story! It’s no wonder that SPRING DAY won SONG OF THE YEAR in 2017. There are explanation videos that go over everything and it makes so much sense; they explain it much better than I could, so I encourage you to go and watch them, and of course watch the MV as well. This story is one of the saddest things I’ve ever heard in my life. The deaths were so unnecessary; the students were told to stay in their cabins, when all they had to do was go out on deck and they would have been rescued by the Coast Guard. The captain and some of the crew got off the ship, knowing they were sending hundreds of young people to their deaths. But why?? That question has never been answered, but the captain and some of the others were convicted of murder, so at least some justice has been served. However, some videos survived that the students took themselves on their cell phones, as the ship was listing and sinking, and they are heart wrenching. At first they were joking around, then began to realize they were not going to survive, and it’s almost too much to watch. The whole thing just doesn’t make sense; there’s nothing that justifies a horror like this. But thank you for your heartfelt reaction. It really means a lot.

Yes this song is about a ship sinking accident happened in Korea couple years ago and hundreds of students died in that accident. They were mourning for that. If you watch the MV and the lyrics you prob will understand more. They’re always so touching and inspiring and I love your reactions!!

Juha Noh I think a lot of people think it’s about the incident because in their MMA performance they were under water and then the screen changed and it looked like steps towards heaven and feathers falling.

Exactly, before seeing the lyrics I saw the dance and could easily tell it was about missing at least someone. Because their dances its so effective like hitting every beat yet its flowing and smooth with the song. And even some parts like when they mirror each other on opposite sides of the room, or when they reach out to each other but end up further away. This is why BTS deserves the fame they have

You have to read the lyrics & the story behind the MV. It's beautiful, kinda bittersweet? I cried when the MV was out because it was painful but beautiful & I was bawling when I saw the live performance. Even after two years, Spring Day is still the no 1 song of BTS for me.

Thanks for reacting to spring day. Spring day is my personal favourite n I feel so connected with the melody n lyric not to mention epic mv. Definitely good pieces not to overlook. From the intro till the end each segment fill up with msg they try to portray. It's bit sombre but it still brought the sense of embracing hope n light in the end of the song. Intro choreo, they stand still n swing their body n arm to different direction as if clockwise movement or wheel act make me connect to mv visual like the moving train. Beautiful pieces☺

PLEASE REACT TO WJSN! They have 13 members which means that they have many choices when it comes to formations and the units that they break into when dancing. Their style is very elegant and smooth. You should watch their dance practices for La La Love, Secret, Dreams Come True, and Save Me, Save You. I'm not telling you to watch everything, but I'm telling you to watch everything. I really truly think that they have some of the best choreographies of any Kpop group, male or female. PS, in the more recent dance practices, you will notice that there are only 10 girls. The three missing members are the Chinese members, and they haven't been able to participate in recent comebacks because of their conflicting schedules in China. Still waiting for an OT13 comeback though. Fingers crossed. Anyways, check them out, you definitely will thank me later.

Wie viele es vielleicht schon bemerkt haben, soll BTS wieder auf Tour. Doch ich glaube viele Armys sind sich nicht ganz sicher ob es gut oder schlecht ist.
