So glad you listened to Take Two as your introduction to BTS! These men have been doing music together for over 10 years, and this week is their 10th anniversary since their debut in 2013. BTS is comprised of 3 main rappers (all of whom can also sing) and 4 main vocalists (all of whom can also rap), and you haven’t seen it yet, but all 7 of them are pro dancers as well, so you definitely need to see their choreography in some of their songs. All of them also write songs and have a hand in producing them. Their discography is immense (over 300 recorded songs including covers, collaborations, and solo projects), and their genres are diverse including hip-hop, R&B, EDM, battle-style rap, ballad, Latin pop, pop, rock, and jazz. They are also a music industry anomaly, since they started in a small company and were constantly left out of the mainstream of the bigger music shows and radio in their own country (South Korea), and refusing to use payola or any dishonest methods they rose to fame anyway because of their online presence and talent, and due to their constantly growing fanbase called ARMY. I am 53 years young and learned about BTS only in early 2022, and I have never seen or heard such a talented group in my lifetime. I now have downloaded a majority of their songs on my playlists on Apple Music and SoundCloud. They have become my healing voice and my therapy, my happy pill, and I can hardly handle a day when I don’t listen to some of their songs. I highly recommend reacting to more of their music, and here are a few selections you might enjoy a lot: (always try to find English subtitles or use Captions since their lyrics are really important to the messages they are sending!) I would recommend you listen to a live performance of their song, “Your Eyes Tell” it’s a Japanese songs that was composed by Jungkook. All the members sing in it and it’s a gorgeous song.

If you take a closer look at BTS ( and you really should 😁) you'll find that they're popular for quite a few reasons: They do just about every genre from neosoul to battle style rap and cover really deep subjects like Jungian psychology, greek mythology, socio-economic issues, mental health problems, self-scrutiny, astronomy, marine biology and so much more. Add to that the fact that they're the funniest crackheads with the biggest hearts of gold and you have the perfect golden combination. A few recommendations to show their versatility would be Black Swan, ON Kinetic Manifesto, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Life Goes On, Zero O'clock live stage mix (vocal line only) and Ugh! (rap line only). To know more about this amazing group that litterally rose from the absolute bottom to the absolute top I highly recommend Taylor Mari's Guide To BTS: The Bangtan 7. Their very poetic, honest and often very personal lyrics are a huge part of their succes so always turn on the captions with BTS and watch until the very end because they love putting important "clues" right at the end 😅. But if you're looking for depth, avoid their english songs that were only meant to cheer up ARMY during the pandemic (Dynamite, Butter and Permission To Dance). They're still bangers though. They also have the most diverse fandom which includes all ages, genders, faiths and nationalities and the fandom activities are anything but standard as well. Turning your closed captions on but also help you understand what they're saying. Interesting choice for a first time BTS listen, not that there's a wrong choice, just interesting given that they have songs in English, Korean/English combination,Korean and Japanese. Also songs in many genres including pop, hip hop, EDM, R&B, Latin Pop and Ballad. Their lyrics are multi-layered (from the "obvious" simplest interpretation to much deeper, profound and personal). Jin does have such a distinctive voice. That man sounds like a musical actor. (Pink mic) Jk has that very versatile sound. He slays any genre, the one sitting in the centre.
