There's first live performance of Black Swan in "The late late show with James Corden" you can watch that and for whole cinematic one watch their concert stage, it's absolutely great. And btw Black Swan is a Korean song, it's not english-korean. Use of english expressions in songs are common in non-english countries especially when it expresses and sounds better with the lyrics. Black Swan is about loosing passion for music. For BTS because music is their connection to Army and their daily job it would mean "first death". Black swan’s choreography is honestly one of my favourite they have done in the recent years. The synchronisation, the ballet/ contemporary influences, the fluidity, its just so good. And honestly my respect for the members increased so much when black swan came. Out of all the members only of them has a background in contemporary dance style (Jimin) and rest of the members have trained their entire career in hip hop/ street style dance forms since its more prevalent in kpop boy group choreography. I can only imagine how hard it must have been and how much they had to practice in order to perfect the choreography knowing that its completely different style than they usually do. And honestly they easily could have taken a easier route with a more traditional kpop choreography. They are a group who are 7 years into their career but for them to put so much effort into performance aspect is really admirable.
@vivalavtae94313 жыл бұрын
In the Black Swan movie, Natalie Portman was very passionate about ballet to the point it killed her. The reference in BTS’ Black Swan is how they started feeling like they weren’t feeling the passion or were unmotivated in making music and they were worried that it would ruin them not just their career but also because they love music so much that if they end it, and I quote, “That would be my first death” which Suga and RM mentioned in their verses.

The Best thing I like about BTS' lyrics is that is open to interpretation to and that is comforting. Many times I return to their songs looking at it with different perspective than earlier. I watch every close-captioned video three times. Once for the full effect, once for the performance/choreography, and once for the lyrics. “A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.” Martha Graham. This quote was the inspiration for this song. It's about their greatest fear as artists. That there may come a time when they lose their passion for their art (music and dance) or are not able to perform anymore. Also RM is a literal genius (IQ 148) and is the primary songwriter for BTS. Hence their lyrics (especially for Korean songs) always have more than one meaning.

Black swan is bts’ masterpiece. They also have a classical version of this song if you watch that one you might understand much more what it is about…but as the name says is also base on the movie black swan the shadow and the light part of the self, in this song they represent the shadow as the fear of losing passion of something you love (as music) and how losing that passion makes you feel dead. It’s actually really deep song it has so much symbolism with literature, movies and past musical videos

The theatre is the Los Angeles Theatre. This MV and the ON Kinetic Manifesto film were shot a few days apart, the latter at the Sepulveda dam. Thematically ON is the song which follows Black Swan, as both see BTS addressing the Jungian concept of Shadow (the hidden, darker, 'truer' part of ourselves), which has to be accepted in order to form a whole individual and move forward. In Black Swan, the Shadow is the source of the artist's fear of losing passion for their art. If you watch for when the costume switches take place you'll see that they're initially in white with a touch of black when performing on stage and in all-black when off-stage. By the close the Shadow has invaded their stage persona completely. In ON their Ego (the reasoning part of their psyche) is striving to unite the public face (Persona) with the Shadow... the 'two worlds'. Both of these songs, and others, link back all the way to Blood, Sweat and Tears (WINGS, 2016).

Black Swan is based off a movie about a ballerina, who apparently goes through 2 deaths - one is the inability to dance anymore (so for BTS the loss of desire or ability to sing and dance), and the final death. The 1st death is felt to be worse than the 2nd for a ballerina or performing artist. To me, they would lose their sense of identity with the 1st death. Yes, they performed Live on Jimmy Fallon, James Corden, and also as part of the 2020 Melon Music Awards (MMA) - which is a totally different, shortened version (but really beautiful). It's always good to watch these MV's more than once to understand the lyrics and also to see the beautiful performance. Watch the shadows in this too - some are on the ceiling (RM). Jin looking in the mirrors and then he turns away but the mirror image stays as it was. etc.

BTS members said they felt scared and pressured because they suddenly became world famous around 2018. So they were thinking about disbanding, and nevertheless, after a year of hard time thinking, they decided to think only about their fans and themselves and move forward. The albums that have been released since then are the Map of the Soul series. The albums are filled with songs that reconsider their inner self, the relationship between the seven members, and the relationship between them and fans. Boy with luv contains a message that they will fly toward fans, not the sun, with wings attached by ARMY. And after listening to Black Swan, you can better understand how they feel by reading On's lyrics. :)

Black Swan is based on a quote by the dancer Martha Graham who said something to the effect of I will die two deaths, the first will be when I can no longer dance and that will by far be the most painful death. The song is about that quote as it applies to their love for their music. This video is a tribute to Graham by featuring modern dance moves and also by setting it in a performance theater. BTS and their team are the best I've ever seen at using storytelling, symbolism, nods and shout outs in their videos. Pretty much everything you see has a meaning. A black swan is a sudden or unexpected event usually with extreme consequences. This song is a piece of applied Jungian psychology dealing with the moment when after an extended period of successful Persona development as musicians Shadow elements leak into consciousness challenging those Personas and, in the process, creating dissonance which results in artist's block. Jung says individuation, the integration of newly conscious more primal thoughts and emotions, is what allows for a more mature path forward. BTS in several songs such as On, Persona, Shadow, and Ego goes heavy into the psychology of Karl Jung, even naming a couple albums after Jung's Map of the Soul.

Guys, don’t try to do both watch the video and read the subtitles, you miss a lot. Watch the lyric video before the music video or live performance. Jimin the one dancing, the Black Swan is a classically trained dancer. He began dancing in middle school he attended the dance academy in Busan and then the highschool of the Arts. He studied loc, pop, b-boy, and when he entered highschool he majored in contemporary dance. This video is in reference to the great Ballet teacher who also formed the first contemporary dance school Martha Graham. She said that if you lose your passion for dance or what you love it’s the artist’s first death. So, the guys contemplate what is would be like to lose their passion for music. It’s like dying your first death. **I suggest MA CITY. It’s back in their early hip hop days, the rappers flex the cities they are from** Again, lyric video first, then the live version which is so much fun. All seven are on stage, however it is rapper centric. I think the guitar sounds like Carlos Santana. #BTS

When I first became an ARMY, I would watch the music videos, then the dance practices without captions because I wanted to enjoy the performances and look at each member. I would later listen to the songs with my earbuds and read the lyrics.

With BTS I'll always watch/listen first, then look for the translation or captions later.

Guys you can always just watch a lyric video before watching the video. Or just pause the video. Good reaction.

I always make one pass at a new MV from them just reading subtitles and one just watching the video to soak it all in.

it's fun watching your genuine reactions, stepping outside of your more familiar genre... looking forward to seeing your reaction to BTS live Black Swan (one of my favorite!) performances, more recently, for their sold out shows in LA - utterly phenomenal, imo!. my personal taste comes from a relatively broad range, stemming from rock, to alternative, to R&B, to classical, etc. i've attended concerts for Green Day, Carlos Santana, Pavarotti, AC/DC, Metallica, Earth Wind & Fire...and most recently, BTS's sold out SoFi Stadium concerts (attended their first 2 concerts in LA), and i gotta say, there's absolutely nothing that comes close to the positive energy and fun BTS/ARMY bring...hands down, BTS are a phenomenally talented group of guys and outstanding artists - among the best of the best i've ever had the pleasure of witnessing. glad to see you guys are enjoying the experience as well. and as you can tell, there's a massive amount of worthwhile BTS content to get familiar with ;)

I’m so glad your heads were bopping the entire song. I do the exact same thing! It’s hands down one of my favs (though I say that for a lot of their songs 😂) thank you for your reaction!

This song says, “The dancer dies twice. The first death is when the dancer stops dancing. And this death is much more painful,” the legendary contemporary dancer Martha Graham made its motif. Just as a dancer faces his first death when he quits dancing, it contains the fear of the moment when he will no longer be able to stand on the stage as an artist. "The more I do music, the more I fear that music will no longer give me a lot of emotion or trembling, but the moment I face my inner 'Black Swan' from the depths of my heart, I paradoxically realize that there is only music." [Suga] Ayy, they say my heart is not beating no more listening to music Tryna pull up Time seems to have stopped Oh that would be my first death I been always afraid of [RM] If this makes me cry no more If you can't make my heart tremble more How could I ever die like this But what if that moment’s right now right now

I just wanted to say there are 2 Black Swan videos and the second is very underrated, if you can react to the other version it would be great as it shows how amazing their mixing of genres is and the dancers in the video are just wow. There are musicians that try to mix but sound weird. I'm a harsh critic but everything BTS has done sounds natural, not forced.

Jimmy Fallon did a BTS week which included Black Swan and their remote performances from Korea were amazing. They also did an really cool barefoot dance performance on the James Corden show live in the studio. All worth watching!!💜
