This one's deep. Literature, philosophy, history, etc. - it's all part of the BTS package. Another example of how when someone talks of BTS as just another "boy band", one thinks to oneself "you have no idea". :-)

I found BTS recently and have fallen in love with their work! I realized that I had seen the video for Dope back when it first came out and I remembered thinking that the song was cool and the sound production was super high quality, but I never dove into them. It's funny for me to think back to that first exposure to them and how I see them now. Never would have thought the guys who made Dope would make THIS. It's a good reminder to never put limits on yourself or others.

I found them winter 2017 . I was really sick and had just been diagnosed with a fainting disorder. ( and I had worked retail and walked to work) I really like their music and found them fascinating. They led me other groups too. Then I really dove in summer of 2018 - as I developed drop foot ( or foot drop depending who your talking to - basically a paralyzed foot, that won’t work - and ankle that doesn’t work going up or down ) . For a person who has walked to work most of their life ,and was VERY active, to all the sudden not be able to do most things anymore…..well it’s hard. I know your thinking brace and all - mine is permanent and get worse , I am a fall risk, and when we put a brace on my leg/foot went so numb from knee to toe , that I had to look at it to see if it was still there.😅 💜💜💜💜 But getting off topic a little bit….. I had nothing to do suddenly and was really in a bad place . I started watching all their videos again and started watching everything army put out. It kept me focused and present. Quite honestly it is BECAUSE of how MUCH army loves BTS and is willing to put things out there to help people get to know them, that I was able to learn so much about them. They themselves are amazing people that I recognize as incredible artists and people. BUT Army is also incredibly open , warm hearted, caring, intelligent, interesting and helpful. You all ( BTS and Army ) helped me in one of the most difficult times in my life. I love their (BTS) strength, morals, humanity, beliefs, and over all out look on life , each other and us. Army is a most befitting fandom for them AND a welcoming, helpful and caring presence towards people who are just finding them and each other. You all show the world what caring for others is really about and what it can achieve. From me to you ( and all army) Thank You for being you and just doing what you do !! It’s appreciated rest assured. I can’t be the only one. 💜💜💜😊👍🏻👵🏻 -Happy New Year. - from 54+ army.

Blood Sweat and Tears video and song were built and written based on Demian, a novel by Hermann Hesse which won a nobel prize in literature back in 1946. I read this book (because of this Mv) and I'll try my best to interpret and summarize the story here. The story follows a young boy named Sinclair who had a friend named Demian. Demian acted as Sinclair's mentor during his childhood and transition to adulthood. Sinclair as a young adult experienced series of existential crisis, believing he lived in between the world of light (the world of illusion, full of goodness) and "the dark world" (the real world which was full of lust, temptation, anger and evil world). Demian, and later on Sinclair's another mentor Pistorius, believed that in order to become a full person a human needs to embrace both of their light and dark sides. This will then lead Sinclair to find out about Abraxas, the god of light and darkness. There are sooo many imageries and jawdropping details on the MV that represent details in the book. But the point is this song is about the loss of innocence and temptation, about being a human and embracing both of your good and dark sides. The scene where Jin kissed the statue (which I believe the representation of Abraxas) means he seals the deal with the devil himself in order to fully embrace himself as a person who isn't perfect, full of flaws. The white and black doors represent the world of light and the real world. Suga playing piano represents Pistorius who was an organ player in the story. The phrase that RM read in English here was also taken from the book, page 26 (on the version that I read). It says "He too was a tempter, he too was a link to the second, the evil world with which I no longer have anything to do." "He" here refers to Demian, that Sinclair once thought as a bad influence for him, maybe it's because Sinclair tried to deny his dark sides. The book is heavily influenced by a swiss philosopher and psychiatrist Carl Jung. One of his pupils was Hermann Hesse's doctor back then. This MV and song are also influenced by a german philosopher Nietzche. There's a quote by him on the wall above the painting that Jin is staring at. It is in German but it means "You must have chaos within you in order to give a birth to a dancing star". Again, the same theme occurs here, about embracing both of your light and dark sides. Only by accepting your flaws and mistakes you can reach your true potentials. Hesse learned a lot about Jung's psychoanalysis and experienced it himself so that was why Demian was heavily influenced by it. What makes it even more interesting, BTS album MOTS 7 is also based on Carl Jung's theory (hence the songs Persona, Shadow, and Ego were born-- these 3 elements are important in Jung's theory Maps of the Soul). BTS are deep, my friends. They talk about real things like the pain of growing up and youth's experience. They literally make a lot of armys become smarter and read on classic literature like this because of them. lol. Welcome to the fandom! (Please note once again that this is all my own interpretation after reading the book, take it with a grain of salt.)

As I've already said before, please don't feel pressured to react to or do things you're NOT interested in. I have noticed, you're more driven by the sound rather than the visuals, and it's alright ! People love BTS for different reasons, and for you it's obviously the music itself. If you don't fully understand the music video or if you don't get 100% the lyrics, it's not a big deal 💜 Anyways, I'm excited to see your next reactions

The painting that captivates Jin is called Fall of the Rebel Angels, which frames everything. BST is still my favourite partly because of the layers of meaning and storytelling. The book Demian by Hermann Hesse is a major source of inspiration for BST: the passage RM quotes is from the English translation, the German words on the wall by the mirror are from the original. The organ scene, the picnic in the garden and much of the other imagery stem from the book. The book and the song are about the temptations of the world as we move into adulthood. Any guesses why Jin's mirror does not reflect what's there or why his perfection begins to crack? Love this one so much.

Each picture needs to be interpreted in the music video, and each prop, the meaning of green alcohol, the relationship between the members, and the whole story are all meaningful. BTS's music video is amazing even if you watch it again. Bang Si-hyuk, the head of Big Hit, expresses BTS' aesthetics (philosophy, art, history, etc.). I hope you can find BTS' worldview.

THIS! pulled me deep into the abyss of BTS. Not knowing anything about the Korean society, I was thinking 'how cultured and educated' are these guys? This MV is packed with art and symbolism. When I read the German quote Friedrich Nietzsche it was over for me. Hermann Hesse' book Demian, I read in high school. I am German. Still, today after 4 years, I get chills when I hear this song. There are live performances in the Asian award shows (copyright), there is dance practice, making the MV footage.

The standard reaction to this video is “what just happened?”. This video is so packed with symbolism that people have written master thesis papers analyzing it. It’s one that you can look at just the art they use, the pairings of members, literature like Demian (the core ideas), and the idea of Icarus falling, quote from the philosopher Nietzsche is on the walll above the mirror.. so many lens for further research and deep thought. It’s so Easter egg filled most explanation videos will still miss things although if you are curious I do highly recommend them for this song and a glimpse into how complex BTS as a whole group can get. And that not even getting into the BU side… a fan favorite for sure plus the song and choreography are mesmerizing live.

I love your videos and the way you pay attention to things ! Blood sweat and tears might be the most "sensual" music video BTS has ever done lol. As other people have mentioned, it's because this particular song (and the albums wings) has the theme of temptation and the loss of innocence. It's part of growing up, and all the BTS discography kinda show how we change from school to adulthood, etc, the different things we experience. You can see it when you look at their albums from debut to now SCHOOL TRILOGY about different school themes YOUTH albums about the struggles of young people WINGS about temptation and loss of innocence LOVE YOURSELF TRILOGY about how love can seem so beautiful, but also how it can hurt you, and why you should first love yourself. MAP OF THE SOUL about self discovery In addition to that, they also have a fictional storyline that runs through some of their music videos, starting from I Need U. It's quite complicated lol

just to add in case MC and DJ wonder: Dynamite, Butter and Permission to Dance are parentheses in all of this.. they are more "simple" and fun songs... and fulfill that proposal very well... butter may have some messages between the lines if we look for the parts that RM wrote in non-obvious meanings for the words, but it still doesn't enter into the concepts of these eras that AND SPRITE explained 😍

You've already seen some of the music videos that are included, but it also includes a webtoon a mobile game, books and notes found in some of their CD packaging. I'm sure there are some ARMYs who have a comprehensive list, but sadly I lost track of it after the webtoon, I'm waiting for Bighit to release their TV drama so I can hopefully get the whole story.

The song "Blood, Sweat and Tears" itself is a song of boys who are struggling and struggling with temptation for the first time in their lives. It is a work that contains the inner world of the boys in the previous album, "When My Love Blooms." Based on the book Demian and the worldview written based on the psychology of Jung and Freud, it shows depravity, temptation, awakening and growth, and human ambivalence in the music video. Such as the confrontation between good and evil, the conflict between the outside and the inside. Demian' contains the process of Sinclair, who lived in a bright and stable place, growing up by continuing to face conflicts between good and evil after stepping into the dark world. Evil in Damien is not just negative. We can move on to another world, "growth," when we face and become aware of the evil within us. The music video shows the confusion of a boy in irresistible temptation through various materials. According to the album's introduction, the main theme is to sing about the process of growth, such as the shadow of evil that you must encounter at least once in your life, conflicts with others and the outside world. Literally, it can be said that Demian sublimates and expresses what he wants to convey into music through various psychological and artistic elements.

So much to take in for BS&T! Here’s a bit more info on BS&T mv not in any particular order Notes: The paintings & statuary are All symbolic... 1. Painting near the beginning Jin is gazing at is “Fall of the Rebel Angels” by Bruegel (also note the arches to the left & right are black & white..choices!) 2. painting behind Kookie on a swing is “Lament of Icarus” by Draper 3. J Hope is seen in front of “Pieta” by Michelangelo 4. the elegant dinner table has 6 of them seated and Jin raising a glass... think The Last Supper by Da Vinci (and betrayal) also, do you see the single apple on each plate? * Jimin / Yoongi and the apple.. later Yoongi blindfolding Jimin and the apple? Temptation. 5. Taehyung sitting on a ledge and jumping down~note: (Willfully falling, even enjoying it is a very important clue) in the background “Landscape With The Fall of Icarus” also by Bruegel 6. Everybody/thing changes after Jin ‘gives in” to the black winged angel... except Taehyung (who IS that fallen angel) 7. Jungkook floating without the swing (youth and innocence gone) falling feathers around him indicating he is Icarus. 8. The previously green smoke from Namjoon is now white 9. They are Not saying ‘money money money’ ~ they are saying “wahni mahni, mahni mahni mahni” ~ meaning “want it more, more more more” this song is about the temptations in youth. 10. Yoongi is playing an organ. (Like some churches have) 11. At 10:38 the wall Jin is facing has the carvings (translated->) “You must have chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star.” by Nietzsche (One of Joonie’s fav quotes) “Blood, Sweat & Tears” is considered one of the ‘Queens' in BTS’ discography.

XCelest has a great explanation video but I see someone wrote it out. 🙂 This is at its core a coming of age story. Jin is the oldest so he is the first to make the trip to discovering his true self. The understanding is that each person has good and bad within them. We can only become our true selves once we explore both side of us. Once a person starts the journey to discovering the self there is no going back, you have to move forward much like a chick breaking out of its shell. That is what at the end Jin’s face is cracking, he has started the transition to knowing his true self. 💜 great job guys! You would probably enjoy the dance practice video too. 💜

This song and MV are iconic and very representative of the depth of BTS's artistry, one part which is sometimes missed at the beginning of going down the rabbit hole is that they are album artists. The Wings album this song comes from is a stand alone (they mostly have multiple album series that are thematically connected) that came after their 'The Most Beautiful Moment in Life' series that represented their 'Youth' Era. Wings is based around the novel Demian by Hermann Hesse and the theme of growing up, transitioning from youth into adulthood and dealing with temptation and loss of innocence and it is so well executed in its entirety, all of it is genius and one of their best, you still have so much great music and art to discover from BTS, I'm glad to be joining you on this journey. Enjoy 2022!

There's sooo much to say about this one. It's really one of those "requires-an-explanation-video" videos (there're several of them on KZbin) because *nothing* in it is coincidental. These are just a few details: - It centres around the coming-of-age book Demian by Herman Hesse - Jin, who's looking at the painting, is the group's oldest member - The other members are paired with a younger and an older member (student/teacher) - The bike and sling-shot symbolize childhood or innocence - Jin is looking at Bruegel's painting The Fall Of The Rebel Angels - RM's drinking the halucinogenic Absinth which symbolizes creativity, liberation, madness and despair - Above the mirror is a quote by Nietzche: "Mann muss noch chaos in sich haben um einen tanzenden stern gebähren zu können" = You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star - In the first "chandelier-room" behind Suga is the painting The Lament Of Icarus by Draper - V jumps into the painting The Fall Of Icarus by Bruegel - RM's speach is a quote from the book - The black winged statue Jin kisses is the greek god Abraxus. He's related to Jin's face cracking at the end of the video - Suga plays Buxtehude Passacaglia on the organ which is what Pistorius plays for Sinclair in the book Even all the statues have names connected with good and evil! Hermann Hesse was a patient of swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung and Demian is heavily influenced by his theories - like his Map Of The Soul - as are BTS's Map Of The Soul albums. (I still recommend the Persona/Shadow/Ego rapline trilogy from MOTS: 7 😉) Happy new year everyone 🎆

Love Love Your reactions. I've seen so many UTubers react to Blood, Sweat and Tear. The most I hear is It's Like Movie and that Gets me Happy. Knowing that BTS and the crew is Being Recognized on the Great Job they have done. So Proud of BTS. Many more to come. I say the Explanation mv to Blood, Sweat, and Tears. 👍👍

This is still my favorite bts era, from the song, the visual to the whole story behind it. I love love love it, I even read the book that it’s based on and it’s AMAZING and so deep. I would recommend this mv/era to everyone !!

This mv is iconic. There’s a lot of depth of meaning in it but it’s that naughty little smile that V gives when he looks at us without his wings that I love. BTW, Jin is the pivotal character in the BU. The most recent BU mv is Film Out.

The promotion for this album was insane! I was only watching from afar at the time, but that was the first time I’d ever heard of the BU and everyone was theorizing about trailers put out for each member and their solo songs on the album. Much like now with 7 Chakho, the promotion was open to interpretation and cause for buzz. The themes were very grown up and similar to the novel counterpart (that being the classic novel Demian by Hermann Hesse); dealing with that of self love, greed, and accepting the evils of the world. One of my favorite albums, personally. :)

OH MY GOD who in the world suggested you this MV before watching the short films. (I'm being overreacting I know LOL) This was all time favorite MV of BTS. It was masterpiece! and sorry to say this..but you can never say you have watched this MV unless you know the meaning behind every single thing ( I warn you there's a lot to take in) So please please watch the explained theory behind this MV there are too many of them (I hope army can give them link of the best one)

So, this one is part of the BU. It kind of fits into the underbelly of the story. I don't want to give too much away, but seriously look into Save Me and the BU. The story there is amazing. Also, check out Butterfly. It's one of my faves. All of the music in the BU was inspired in part by literature. The two that I loved that you need to read to get the story are Damian and Those Who Walk Away From Omelas. You will see the word Omelas in a lot of their mvs from that storyline, and the original short story will only take a couple hours to read.

This is the title track of the album ‘Wings’ ! Long story short, the album talks about resisting / indulging into the temptations that come up when you grow up. I’d recommend ‘Boy Meets Evil’, the intro of the album. It is a J-Hope solo song and the rap and choreography is incredible. Thanks for the reaction !!

This mv had so much symbolism, from members pairing, paintings, background set, and everything that makes it so much to digest. Blood sweat and tears are the title song for their Wings era, following the most beautiful moment in life. In short, BTS music follow their journey as a youth, from School trilogy in 2013-2014, The most beautiful in life in 2015-2016, Wings (2016), Love yourself (2017-2019), Map of the Soul (2019-2020), and BE (2021). For a song recommendation, J-Hope have a solo MV for Wings album as an intro titled Boy meets evil. Happy new year~!

Now watch the Japanese version of this. But do it on Patreon, because Japan has very strict copyright laws. It is totally different, but just as mysterious. You've stepped into a major chapter of the Bangtan Universe (aka BU), the fictional story that is told through many MVs, short films, highlight reels, webtoons, Notes (that used to come in the albums, but are in book form now.). The story started in 2015 and is still going on now.

Hands down one of my favourite BTS song and video. BTS videos or most KPOP videos harks back to a time when western pop artists put in more effort into their music videos. When the Release of a single and it’s accompanying music video was an event in itself. There is a magical blend of visual artistry and music.
