Tattoos and Piercings are looked down in Korea which is why Jungkook covered his up and Jimin’s are hidden to be honest when he’s on camera or on stage. But Jungkook got a lot of hate from K-Armys, who can be toxic sometimes but it’s because of the standards in Korea.

Jk's sleeve tat it started on his wrist and elbow if I'm not mistaken.a lot of the design was inspired by army and bts members, hence the ARMY and J? Forgot but those letter were written on his fingers 😅 and it just built up from that. Jimin has a few? In his torso, wrist and elbow? Kpop idols have to get it covered during media exposure or what so they wear long sleeves or cover it up with makeup. In JK's case, I'm glad he just went along with the sleeve. And in Korea it’s shown in movies that “gangsters” are known to have tattoos. Which is why almost everyone thinks this way there. My husband is Korean and has a full sleeve. When we go to Korea his mom is embarrassed to be in public with him if his tattoos are showing. And he is not allowed in the hotel saunas because of them. It is still pretty taboo there.

Tattoos in general, a sleeve or anything extensive in particular is very outside middle and upper class Korean culture. He is obviously being very careful with introducing it. I feel so strongly, a person should have control over their own body. Some of Army have been upset. If you are really part of Army, you need to accept each person for who they are. I am, frankly lost with some of the criticism over that sleeve (and I’m not a fan of tats at all), or people who feel they have the right to criticize.

Yes korea is very conservative and tattoos are seen negatively. Alot of kpop idols have tattoos but majority are very small which is acceptable to the public but since jungkook has a whole sleeve they had a lot of mixed feelings about it some love it but a lot hate it. But I love it and he’s feeling more comfortable showing it now So I hope regardless of all the rude comments he gets he stays confident.

Tattoos are “frowned” upon in Korea especially on Idols and can only be done by a licensed medical professional. But JK is breaking out of the mold.
