Fun fact: before Jimin got accepted into Bighit, a teacher from his high school said that Jimin was having a hard time figuring out if he was going to pursue the idol life or contemporary dance. The fact that he was ranked #1 in his school and was actually going to pursue professional dancing rlly has me wanting to see him dancing more contemporary

Unfortunately we would probably never have gotten to know about him, he might be a world class contemporary dancer right now but they usually don't get a considerable public platform. :/ Or any dancer for that matter if that's all they do and don't also participate in music etc. like for example principal ballet dancers. Of course you can learn about them if you're really interested, but it's not like you would randomly stumble upon them because of media coverage or something. From our point of view as fans, we should be grateful that he chose that path for the world to see his talent. And I hope (and think) he's happy with his decision too, even though it meant parting from one dream, he was able to fulfill another. :)

Hobi is not THE main dancer tho, BTS has two main dancers, Hobi and Jimin. For me, although I'm not a dancer, Hobi is the best. He has the most experience in dancing among the boys. It was shown on when he dances and I just love how wonderful his dancing is Edit: Jimin did learnt more types of dancing what I meant to say is Hobi did dancing longer than him. I also love Jimin dancing so please stop using my comment to discredit him, the best is a subjective term.

Suga’s underdancing is most probably caused by the accident ( at around trainee times) that affects his shoulders. He didn’t heal it properly so it ended up healing incorrectly so he could feel pain every now and then if he continues to dance with full power.

I'm honestly so proud of Jin, Yoongi, and Joon. Jin who I remembered used to practice Singing & dancing longer and late night, wasn't confident on him but look at him now! My boy improved so much. And as of Joon and Yoongi who doesn't care of how good they're at dancing as long as they don't look odd/makes mistakes during their performances despite that improved so much. Honestly I mistook them as jk,Hobi in 'ON' MV during second chorus😅

Another one of V’s strengths is his learning speed. This dude literally danced Chicken Noodle Soup after watching it for only once. He has a good memory as well when it comes to the moves and he’s the one who reteaches others the dances from early years. He especially impressed me during Black Swan and ON. Even though he wasn't part of the dance break, the times he got center during ON were so intense. It's like there's a new air of confidence around him now, and you can see his determination and the work he put in to do the best that he can. And _Black Swan!_ Jin and his body lines! His grace! Hobi also said in an interview that he had to learn how to hold back slightly in order for things to look balanced. I get it that for a group, the entire groups’ mentality should be harmony, balance, and cohesiveness above everything else but when he’s by himself, he goes OFF! And I agree that we haven’t even seen all of it yet. Hobi has great control of his energy in a group dance. He’s such a great dancer!

As a current dancer I agree a 100% with this ranking, feel like RM and Jin are getting better by the day, I think also that Suga’ s expressionless face is a part of his performing that I really enjoy haha, V has some natural swag in him, JK is a very strong dancer and def in another group he would be the main dancer. Jimin and J-Hope are two very good dancers but J-Hope has something so special about his moves that I don’t really know how to word

Regarding Jin, he can be better than what he's now if he was/is confident. Due to his less confidence in dancing he's more concious/careful about not making mistakes than in expression and freestyle and I don't think he'll ever be able cuz as long as fans be labelling him as the worst dancer he'll always be scared/careful in trying new moves and less confident with his own moves. And With Yoongi I think his shoulder injury is somewhat also gives him disadvantage in dancing especially hand/shoulder moves

I agree with you wholeheartedly Yoonjin Pdmin. I believe Jin has less confidence in his dance skills than they deserve. He is also still very shy. To me, the saddest thing is he has gone from enjoying dancing to now wanting to stop dancing. Despite that, his dancing skills have been continuously improving. Yoongi's dancing has started to have more energy now that he has been working out again. I'm sure it will continue to improve with his fitness.

BTS is such a well rounded group. Their lines are legends of what they do, like JK at vocals, RM at raps and J-Hope at dances. They also are a self-produced and written group, and have a whole story concept, just like Loona or Dreamcatcher. PS:. They invented this kind of concept (at least in kpop, don’t if other genres already had)

J-Hope is one of the best dancers in 3rd gen. He has fitted BTS' style perfectly since debut, despite all the concept changes. He helps the members, especially RM and Jin, the most and just all the members in general. When J-Hope gets ranked 2nd, all the J-Hope stans are usually way calmer than when Jimin gets ranked second. The number of disclaimers he/she put yet people are still pissed. I'm an RM stan, and it doesn't even bother me if RM is last or second last, because it's a fact and the truth. This is why maknae line stans have a different reputation from hyung line stans. Both are amazing and they know that.

​@@KPOPDanceDeepDives Hi :) So I will tell you my opinion. there is 2 general factor of "standing out" ! first the center, front row, and dance break distributions! normal people (not dancers and those having a sense for it) just casual viewers, will more focus on the one that is in the center and generally the one that they can "see" more!! in the result of Having spotlights in choreographies, you will have the ScreenTime of award shows too (how can you stand out for someone that doesn't even see you through the screen?) Not even mentioning the Outfits and makeups in award shows (which arguably Jimin always get the best concept). Jhope and Jimin's circumstance were not the same in IDOL (literally since MicDrop Jhope is being treated like a sub dancer) Jimin has so much center, front row and the final dance break while Jhope got nothing ( Jhope has the most edge (side and back) time in IDOL) so one main dancer is being treated like the main dancer, another one (Jhope) like a Backup dancer ! So choreography-wise we can't compare since it wasn't a fair distribution! But second, performing and aura wise in general !! I personally Love Jhope performances much more. He is a very flawless dancer and performer, amazing stage presence and the most natural facial expressions! It doesn't matter if he is in the center of not, he will kill it absolutely and gives his 200%! so he stand outs the most for me in stages ! even though is all in back, in the whole group fancam, my eyes naturally go on him ! his execution is is on another level ! :)

J-Hope has such good stage presence, he is literally a born performer. Even if he wasn't in BTS, I'm sure he'd be performing elsewhere. This ranking is pretty accurate, I'm glad no one is bashing you for this because it's the truth. It's not like the people at the bottom of this list are bad dancers, they're amazing but each member are obviously on different levels of dancing skills. Either way, all the members have their strengths and weaknesses, just like any other member of society. It's chill.

I don’t know about you but I think he’s the most precise member when it comes to dancing. he’s very consistent with his moves but lacks in facial expressions (good but not as great as jimin.) Jhope dancing got me like..... hes mad talented... his isolations, the way he gets the beat, precision of steps oh god he is the best dancer of his generation and im not biased at all.... !when he dances he ddoesn't need beat, he is the beat!and i always thought he is the king of street dance but when i saw black swan stage he really does modern dance very well.... he can rock any type of dance and jimin too he is the king of modern dance but he is really amazing in hiphop too... !jk and v can easily be main dancer for any other group (jk technique is lil bit better than v for me). Suga is a great dancer. I think whats really interesting about BTS is the huge disparity in dance capabilities with the members. RM, Jin and Suga have seriously improved and worked really hard to get where they are in dance and performance but the jump in level from Suga to Tae is A LOT and there's even another sizeable jump between Tae and JK... Despite that, as a group they are really able to make their choreo and performance incredibly cohesive and I think that is amazing

i think about overdancing they mean that he goes "too hard" on some of his moves, which isn't wrong. he does sometimes overextert(? idk how to spell english sorry) himself and go to hard into his moves, which makes it harder to go into the next move etc. it mostly happens prob when he's excited about a performance or the adrenaline pushes him harder than he would regularly. like, all the members overdance sometimes (it's some of what causes injuries or exhaustion in dancers in general, not just bts but like professional dancers as well) meaning they go a bit too hard. like when rm ripped jks shirt wide open bc he got too into the dance and wasnt careful enough; it just happens sometimes. overdancing isnt about charisma it's just about pushing and executing your dance moves too harshly

Not kidding I’m also doing an analysis myself, Jimin and Hobi are really almost tied. I didn’t want to bring in anything like acrobatics, Contemporary dance, teaching choreography or Hope on the street because it influences people’s decisions. So I had to just base their skills on their group dances for the sake of being neutral, there I found that Hoseok’s power lies in details that few can actually catch because he’s so effortless that we tend to miss it sometimes. The thing about him is that everything is top notch, there’s something unique about this guy that I noticed very early on when I came into the fandom. The switch from fluidity to control, ease from impact to smoothness, details to grand movements, a variety of facial expressions which are always on point, very clean and smooth muscle isolations one of the best in this industry, the audacity to freestyle right in BTS’s own choreography itself (especially Mic Drop SNL) and make it look cool, the natural-ness and looseness of each tiny move that you don’t typically see in many dancers. It seems like he doesn’t need to think about his next move because he knows his body so well. He also has the dancer’s aesthetic point of view, he knows the rhythm, the spatial awareness, how to control the amount of impact given, it’s just nice and not overly done. He has that natural swag without even trying, he exudes so much charisma, charm and stage presence. Watch how he dominates the stage whenever he’s the one doing the dance break. It’s no coincidence that people are noticing a dancer at the back of most performances but that dude happens to be one of the most highly talked about idols in the whole of KPop where dance is concerned. The screen time for the dance line isn’t on equal promotions each, but yet people know he has the skills. For me Hobi under dances rather than over dances, I’ll be honest sometimes the energy from him isn’t the same as JiKook’s. I don’t know if he’s toning it down for the sake of the group’s unity or he lacks their pop but it’s noticeable whenever they’re all at the front. The only dance I’ve ever seen him go hard is On and that was one of the best moments you can get of him although he was there briefly. You want cool I’ll give you J-Hope, you want classy I’ll hand you Jimin, you want power here’s Jk. Untrained eyes can’t spot his details unless you’re a stan of that idol because you watch him everyday, but sometimes even trained eyes can’t spot either. If you’re into details, watch any of his group videos and slowly spot the degree as to how he snaps his neck to the side, how he arches his back, how his ankles aren’t ankles at all, his hips having a mind of their own, his agile footwork, how he’s supposed to end the move as stationary but instead fills in small bounces in his step, how his fingers dance just as flexibly as his body. You kinda need to compare him with the rest of the group to have a sense of which moves are meant to be the same as everybody elses and which ones he’s actually putting his own style into. There are a number of it where he’s inserting his own flavor and people think it’s supposed to be that way. All I know is he sure is creating his own choreography within a choreography itself. And besides Tutting is a true skill because it’s about the flexibility and control of the fingers, which honestly few people can do because it’s so complex. I agree with Namjoon being 6th btw, he has the energy and facial expressions to go with the dance and even in his own random weird dancing in variety shows he actually doesn’t look awkward to me.

The fact that Jin had no dancing ability before this is amazing and it shows with effort and determination anything can be done. Though he isn’t as good as Jimin or Hobi per se, he is still able to execute a majority of dance moves like the other members and for that I honestly have to praise him for that. Also Namjoon and Yoongi, they are dancers who I’ve seen progressively improve, they are also amazing. The rest are just natural born dancers, especially Hobi, the dances they are able to perform whilst singing is just crazy, eg ON. Well done to them all.

I was actually watching their On choreography and was amazed at how much RM and Jin (and also Suga who was a little better than the 2 when they started) have inproved. Like, the members of the dance line are really, really good dancers, with Jhope and Jimin among the best dancers in kpop. The fact that when all 7 were dancing, nobody was sticking out was a testament to how much RM, Jin and Suga have improved. They are now able to keep up with the other 4 and they a whole, seamless group.

Nobody hate me but being an army for a year I thought Jungkook was the main dancer cause he always stood out to me. Then I found out that J-hope is the main dancer and I totally agree! He has the best angles, he doesn’t over-dance so much or under dance. He is really talented and I HOPE people appreciate his talents and himself in general. Please love all BTS members. ‘RM is a very tall lad’ omg I wheezed, you’re not wrong 😂 I’m so happy that this was one of the first videos to pop up on my yt feed, I’ve been waiting so long for a proper dance analysis for these boys. I think the ranking is probably the least arguable in the KPOP industry. The non-dance line members have improved tremendously over the years. Jin impressed me very much this comeback, he was so fun to watch and I think this comeback has also shown how much he improved. I never saw that footage of him bending down like that, my jaw dropped. My boy - or lad 😂 - RM has improved very much. I’m not sure if anyone else would agree but I do think that he has a bit of free-styling potential (I can’t remember what video but it shows him free styling and he put out some moves). Suga and his coordination was really impressive and I do think he is a good dancer but I agree with the points made! Regarding the dance line, I agree with everything. Literally everything.

Hmmm I would have to disagree. I feel like the only thing that makes Jin 7th is confidence. You can tell that he isn’t confident occasionally and this can make him dance awkwardly. I feel as if RM is more confident whilst dancing, but I do see where your coming from.

Plus, Jin tends to hunching down his shoulder that much (which is a legit reason in the video, I saw it a couple times that it happened to him a lot) so it's made like he had poor technique and execution, but technically I see Jin is less stiff than RM based on some stage performances

I agree 100% with this ranking. Depending on the style J-Hope and Jimin are always #1 or 2 for me. JK is a super strong dancer and a performance beast. The only reason he's third is because JHope and Jimin are in the group. V is a really good dancer. I've watched a few fancam and has noticed he goes blank a lot unless it's a part highlighting him. It's not always, but it's happened on more than one occurrence. He might be conserving energy. I just think the V focus fancams actually pointed out his weakness to me more. On the flip side, JK fancam really showcase his performance quality. JK doesn't care if camera is on him or lot. He's intense throughout. Probably why he's collapsed from exhaustion so many times. Suga is a fine dancer. He dances tiny though, or under dance as you put it. Jin and RM will sometime look awkward dancing. Kudos to all members for being able to sing, dance, and perform at such high quality for years. Edit: the fact that V stans came after me for disrespecting him while accusing me of being a solo stan shows your insecurity and inability to take a criticism. I commented on all the members. Yet you would think I went on a rant on V and only V. 🤔 I said what I said. No one can be ON for an entire 2.5 hour concert (unless you are JUNG HOSEOK). I noticed V's lack of expressions or resting bitch face more on fancams because it's that big of a difference when he is making an effort versus when he is conserving energy. I love all members.

one of the things that make hobi stand out as a dancer for me is the way I can see what dance means to him when he's performing like, dancing is his life and I can tell just by watching it comes so naturally that he has a light walk, even, cuz it's just there with him all the time with jimin, and everybody else, I can see a switch to dance mode, but with hobi this transition is so subtle, it only shows in his face, but in his body it comes unnoticeable he's indeed naturally gifted

I watch his fancams and focus on him in OT7 performances, I feel like he's a power based dancer. Sometimes puts too much power in simplest moves (for example after the bridge in ON, they all come together and do that arm movement. Everyone does it in a calm way, and there is him, he looks like he's beating shitt out of someone. I mean I LOVE him doing that but it does affect the group)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks J-Hope is the best dancer in BTS. I have often seen Jimin, JK and V being praised for their dancing (they absolutely deserve it), but I've never seen people appreciate J-Hope nearly as much as them (that goes for the rest of the hyung line, they are all extremely underrated, except maybe Yoongi), when he is absolutely fantastic. I only noticed how great Jimin and JK were at dancing after a while of getting into BTS because I always focused on J-Hope when watching dance practice videos. Even if I am not a dancer I was immediately mind-blow by how clean his movements were, how much power he put into them and the passion he expressed through his dancing. I may be a bit biased because he is my bias wrecker, but to me he is the best dancer in BTS, one of the absolutely best in kpop and couldn't be anywhere else in this ranking. And don't even get me started about his rapping, singing and stage presence, he is such an underrated all rounder. I could go on for hours about how the hyung line is often underappreciated so I'm going to stop here. But yes, J-Hope deserves everything in this world and I'm never going to stop supporting him and the other boys

I agree with most of your points and totally agree with your rankings. However, I think Jimin has the best facial expressions while dancing not only in BTS but in general. Maybe that's due to his soft dance background, particularly in contemporary and ballet, facial and movement expression are really major. He easily manages to express his movements which makes him stand out even among idols with soft dance backgrounds. Personally I think thats one of his major strengths!

I know lots of people like to say that bts is lacking vocal wise, but no one can deny they are such a stacked group all around. So much talent radiating from every single one of them. There’s a reason they’re on top of the world. Also, I’ve always thought Suga was a really great dancer and overlooked a lot, but I still agree with the placements here. He's often in the front (tho not center), and has had very little issues keeping up with the dance line since debut. I can't really blame them for lacking knowledge about it considering the fact that BTS started of as a *hip hop* based group and that the k-pop training system is 100% useless when it comes to helping upcoming vocalists undergo decent training (I'm excluding SM entertainment; their singers are well rounded and are actually taught how to look after their throat) It's so sad. These trainees spend several years and a lot of money only to be taught everything wrong and come out as average/belwo average ' singers ( Twice's Jihyo for example. 10 years training but is only an average singer that was criticised in the past for lyp syncing) 60-70% idol singers literally rely only on raw talent but lack the basic knowledge about vocal pedagogy and how to keep safe and possibly prevent laryngeal cancer 💀

J-Hope totally devours you when is on stage. this man is the definition of vision, talent, and professionalism. the coordination of his moves, variety, groove, the fluidity, versatility, lines, positional awareness, stamina, his natural expressions .. his executions is phenomenal. His isolation is indeed unmatched and he has control over every single muscle of his body which not only is insane but also made him such a consistent dancer and performer; unbelievable upper and bottom area control! he totally knows how to make a balance between his strength and smoothness and also on his energy! (besides being dynamic) He not only doesn't overpower/overdance but also maintains the power to explodes it at the right time, hook part of the beats, that's one of the reasons why his moves seem so clean and satisfying! He has a great utilized head position too, unlike lots of dancers and the curve he naturally gives to his moves makes them so diligent and elegant! No one will match him Technique wise (which is important more than 90% in dancers), and he rocks the expressions and emotion games since he pours his soul and feeling into his moves ! not just dancing, but living with the lyrics ! so immersed! and tied with his god-level stage presence and aura, have made him into such *once in a lifetime* dancer and performer. his versatility, on the other hand, is wondrous! multi-style dancer for reasons! He is straightly a living God on HipHop style(the widest dance genre and the most difficult if learning all of its sub-genres and branches! I find it so freaking funny how some people consider a dancer as "HipHop dancer" Just bcuz of some locking and Popping !! It's so dammit more than this), house, Rock, Tutting, Marionette, Waacking, Urban, Contemporary (his BlackSwan Cams are Just definition of ART) & more and more! His moves naturally have the Jazz style and Just as fluid as fur. he makes the moves look so easy and nimble! "He doesn't have bones" you say this to a dancer that is crazily fluid af whilst Hoseok is known for it !! even his fingers naturally goes with the beat ! he performs from his tiptoes to hair strain and beyond! execute charisma and years of experience on every single move .. Just so suave and wondrous! Further, he is God at freestyle. have eyes for Judging and amazing mentor !! (how can he be this perfect on every dance-related stuff? Jesus) And a brief look at his freaking rich background that lots of people try to overlook !he had already 10+years dancing experience before joining BTS (19+ years by now). getting professional scholarship when was only 13 (he rejected this for some family reason), the NATIONAL Dance competition champion when was only 16 ! literally, the most famous trainee among companies and BTS was a group that has "The famous dancer Jung Hoseok". He also won some JYP competitions too. and J-Hope not only is a self-taught underground dancer who studied dance as well and was TOP student. (You can also search for NLT-Let me know mashup idols pre-debute dance. how a 16 years old kid can outsell even for those days?) *even on experience-wise he is unmatched !!!* And Honestly I find It hilarious how Bighit overshadows this gem for the sake of some particular members. he deserves to be showcased and promoted much MUCH more not being treated like a back up dancer for every second of the last 3 years !!! Hobi is such an under appreciated dancer outside of the fandom, his skills, stage presence and facial expressions are impeccable and I feel like he’s not nearly appreciated enough, especially by the Korean gp. I’m not a skilled dancer like you so I won’t comment in depth about his skills, but just by watching his fancams, I find that he always gives his 100% when it comes to his facial expressions. Many idols keep a blank face when they’re not in the centre or when the camera is off of them, but hoseok is always performing to his best every second he is on stage, there’s never a dull moment when you watch him. He’s not just one of the best dancers in the industry but one of the best performers overall

I actually completely agree with the ranking and also with all your explanations, EXCEPT for J-Hope overdancing because honestly, I always felt he did quite the opposite - NOT going as hard as he could do to not make the difference between him and the weaker dancers too obvious and make the group as a whole look "off" (I noticed that especially during BS&T in which he dances a lot front and center). I think Jimin and JK are more prone to overdancing than him. I know it was hard chosing between No 1 and 2 but I agree that J-Hope is just that teeny tiny bit better, he is incredible. Watching both Jimin and J-Hope dance gives me completely different feelings too: I could watch Jimin for hours with my jaw on the floor because of how beautiful and mesmerizing he is when he dances, but it's like watching someone in a different world that I'll never be part of - it's so good it's surreal. On the other hand, watching J-Hope dance makes my feet tingle and my heart jump and makes me want to lift my old fat ass off the couch and dance with him. He radiates so much love for what he does that it's downright contagious and grabs me through the screen und sucks me right in with him. I don't think I've ever felt that watching ANYBODY perform. He is one in a million and he gives me so much joy when watching him, so yes....I 100% agree he is a treasure. 😢
