BTS Deliver Message Of Hope For Fans

BTS delivered a message of hope during The Korea Society's virtual Annual Gala.
The K-pop global superstars accepted the General James A. Van Fleet Award, given annually to one or more distinguished Koreans or Americans in recognition of their outstanding contributions to U.S.- Korea relations.
The group thanked The Korea Society and talked about building solidarity and sharing hope through music going forward.

Before BTS made these speeches, they probably spent days and countless hours practicing and going over every word to make sure no one feels hurt from their messages of hope and strength. Personally, I didn't find anything offensive in RM's speech. To think that they got all their deals in China cancelled because some people can't understand their positive message is disappointing. Hopefully, BTS or Big Hit won't apologize if they don't feel like they've done wrong. Love BTS, Love Each Other's 💜

People seem to not understand the situation they are in. They are being awarded for their contributions on SK and US relationship. Therefore, it is only wise for them to focus their words on the two countries or make it general. Mentioning other countries can be slightly out of context. They can mention China's contribution during the Korean War but only if they receive something like BTS contribution on SK-China relationship.

Following this speech, FILA and Samsung China have deleted all BTS-related content from their websites and social media, and some Chinese citizens are calling on BTS to apologise for their “one-sided” speech. If you are Chinese, please could you let me know what was offensive about this? Not being rude, genuinely asking because I thought they were careful with their choice of words. to those of you who are wondering why many Chinese fans are mad about rm, this is what they are ACC thinking. So it's definitely not rm's fault for standing on the side of his country and there is nothing wrong with what RM had said considering the fact that he is korean. However, since bts is making a lot of money in china (ik there is the kpop ban but a lot of Chinese fans are still VERY devoted to buying their albums and merchandises), a lot of Chinese fans feel that RM (or bighit i should say) should have at least considered the feelings of the Chinese fans before giving out this speech considering the fact that a TREMENDOUS number of Chinese people had died in the Korean war. And what I mean by "they" is their company instead of RM cuz it's most likely the company who wrote the script....I got on weibo (the major chinese social media outlet) today, and here's what most Chinese netizens say "we do not expect and totally understand that they have different political views as us since we were on the opposite side during the war, however, if you were to make money in our country, you should have considered our feeling before giving out the speech." Personally, I think bts doesn't need to apologize for this since all they did was supporting their country. However, i also understand the feelings of the chinese fans cuz standing in their position, bts ( or the company i should say) had ignored the fact that there were also many chinese soldiers that died in the war. After looking at many different articles and seeing people talk on social media, I really don't understand why people are so upset by this. The purpose of this award is strengthening the ties between the United States and South Korea, it has nothing to do with China plus China was not even mentioned. I'm all for celebrities taking accountability if they are in the wrong, no matter how much I love them, but this has caused all BTS advertisements to be removed in China from their main sponsors, that's a lot lost for them, and I don't think it's fair if it's unjustified, because they didn’t say anything offensive. China is communist and therefore the government limits their access to veritable resources and teaches pro-Chinese propaganda whether it’s true or not. The government gives their version of history or just re-writes it to suit their purposes. North Korea and China construed the whole Korean War into their efforts to free South Korea from an Imperialistic chokehold that the US had/has on South Korea; while also ignoring that North Korea invaded South Korea and started it. Those that believe this seem to feel that the Chinese losses in the war were “saving” South Korea and feel slighted that they weren’t mentioned.

America, UN were the allies with South Korea. China sent their soldiers to help North Korea in invading South Korea. So South Korea, America, and UN fought together against North Korea& China. So China was the enemy to South Korea during the Korean war. No one thanks your country's enemy during a war. I am not Chinese but I can tell... so Korea (China was opposite side with north Korea)had a war 70 years ago and us supported Korea...so It was the 70th anniversary and RM OPPA talked about the sacrifice of the country...The speech triggered a string of reactions on Twitter and other social media platforms, calling out BTS for “hurting the Chinese fans’ feelings” and “negating history“.(because they also lost lives in the war and rm didn't mention it) ... He is Korean and people are forgetting this... 😑😑😑 I don't see any fault with rm oppa's speech. And it was an award ceremony for us support to south Korea and I dont see any reason to mention china

This award is about South Korea-US relations. No other countries need to be mentioned at all when they receive an award for their contribution to strengtening South Korea-US relations period. Dear China, not everything is about you and not everyone revolves around you. Wake up. Get a reality check. Thank you Side note: the Korean was occurred when North Korea attacked& invaded South Korea without a declaration of war in 1950. China, the Soviet Union were the allies with North Korea. America, UN were the allies with South Korea. China sent their soldiers to help North Korea in invading South Korea. So South Korea, America, and UN fought together against North Korea& China. So China was the enemy to South Korea during the Korean war. No one thanks your country's enemy during a war. So China getting mad at Namjoon for not mentioning China in his speech is just ridiculous. If China wants a credit, they can get it from North Korea. It is as simple as that. Thank you

As a Chinese Army (I was born in the USA also), personally, I don't think BTS did anything wrong in their speech, they were only honoring people who sacrificed and died for the war. And they didn't mention China or Chinese in their speech, so I don't get why Chinese Netizens are enraged about this. Namjoon did nothing wrong, so he doesn't have to apologize. I think they misunderstood Namjoon's speech and took it the wrong way, Namjoon/BTS would never exclude any country or race, much less disrespect them, and if you have to doubt them, then you aren't an Army. I think BTS are genuine people who speaks themselves and loves every Army and their fans. Please leave BTS alone, and let them be. Besides, this speech isn't worth fighting for, there's more important things to worry about like Covid-19, pandemic and poverty. I get that this is a sensitive topic to talk about, but we should not be fighting over a speech of what BTS said, I'm sure they did not mean it in that way that Chinese Netizens are thinking it is. I'm staying neutral in this because I'm an Army and I love BTS (I'm also a US Citizen), but I also don't want to cause misunderstandings that I'm disrespecting one of my other country, but I'm just stating my opinions and thoughts on this.
