Yes I can breathe in a corset lmao. What Jungkook and Jimin are wearing especially are incredibly loose and not constricting their breathing at all, but for me when I wear that type of corset even a bit tighter I don't have any trouble breathing whatsoever. With ones with actual laces that pull a bit tighter, it can change my breathing a little bit, but I wouldn't really say it hinders it? Basically when it's tight enough, instead of breathing through your diaphragm in your stomach, I start to breath more upward, I guess? The movement comes more through my chest. It can make it harder to catch your breath if you're trying to do something particularly strenuous, but for basic movement and every day activities, I've never struggled with breathing. And yes, they're safe! As long as you're using them correctly, they're perfectly safe to use. Extreme tight lacing can be harmful, of course, but corsets are actually very useful for spine support.

13:05 it depends on what you’re wearing! there are corsets that are more for fashion and can be as tight or as loose as you want (the ones jungkook & jimin are wearing in black swan are a type of corset!) and then there are waist trainers that are more like what you’re thinking of. it can get kinda hard to breathe if it’s super tight and i’ve heard it can be very harmful and can cause some sort of organ damage

Only the rich people who pulled them extremely tight to make themselves thin were damaged. So no, they didn’t damage their insides unless they used them incorrectly, and back then they knew how to wear them, it’s just that now people don’t know how to use them and so they think it was awful back then

Corsets were actually a kind of undergarment before bras and if they fit you well and aren't tightlaced then they are completely safe and comfortable. But they can cause some problem if they don't fit your body. Nowadays they are mostly just for aesthetic and they are worn on top of your clothes while in the past they were underneath

Originally corsets were worn to winch waists in 1800,s and earlier. They laced up the backside, and were pulled/winched so tight that indeed many women broke their ribs whil wearing them. It's also one of the main reasons women were prone to fainting back then quite often, because these corsets were winched so much they had trouble breathing. They were quite strong reinforced with whale bones. Since then they were used by women as part of undergarments to keep their bodies looking more in the hour glass shape. Now though, one can still since a waist with some, they are mainly made and used as fashion statements. Plus both men and women can wear them for different reasons. They can also support ones back when lifting things!! Or help support injured back. In other words they have many different applications!

Actually that is a myth. Many fashion historians on youtube have posted videos debunking that. Karolina Zebrowska and Bernadette Banner have made great videos on the subject if you want to check that out. A well sized and well worn corset will sinch the waist without hurting at all. It also keeps the back straight and helps with back pain, which is why even peasant women working in the fields worn them daily. These days people with scoliosis or back pain often wear medical corsets that work on the same principle. The idea that corsets hurt and are a torture for women is a misconception spread by misogynistic men a few centuries ago and again by Hollywood more recently.

The thing that Jk is wearing is called a Corset, they’re comfortable to wear, and can be worn by anyone, but they can be extremely dangerous if you tie them up to tight, put them on incorrectly or if you buy a really cheap one( if you buy a cheap one PLEASE make sure that it’s made of the right material, because if you don’t the corset might Collapse and you might end up getting hurt/ breaking something 😅)

Corsets were actually very easily breathable and comfortable, the myth that it made women faint was started by a man. Like with anything, people did go to extremes and tight-lace, but the vast majority was women in the working class actually doing their manual jobs with a corset on, it gives surprising amounts of support to the back, too. If you wanted to learn more, Bernadette Banner's "I Grew Up In A Corset. Time To Bust Some Myths" video is very good. Corsets are akin to wearing bras, except I'd say they were a bit more comfortable as the bones in them molded around one's body and not vice versa, where you had to fit into an unmovable frame. The snatched waist silhouette was created by using padding on the hips and good structuring of the abdomen.

I've seen a bunch of fashion historians make videos about the fact that women couldn't breathe or move very well in corsets is a whole MYTH created by modern shows and movies and some men a few centuries back. You can sinch your waist significantly without the corset being too tight, plus it actually keeps your back straight and helps with back pain. If even peasant women who worked in the fields could wear them daily, believe me it's not that inconvenient. Wearing a thin undergarment underneath the corset also keeps it from rubbing against your skin and making marks. Corsets and other garments made for women were often made by women owned companies, and men back then were... Where obviously pretty misogynistic so they mocked and attacked by spreading rumors and writing news articles about how women were hurting themselves intentionally with corsets just to look appealing. In movies and shows, that idea was spread once again by making scenes where the servants would lace a corset way too tight on another lady, or that scene you mentioned in Pirates of the Caribbean. Actresses themselves began saying that wearing a corset was a torture and so on, but the main reason for that is that they were not sized or worn properly. A corset and a Waist Trainer are slightly different but can be used for the same thing. A corset is what Jk was wearing, it makes the side parts of your waist look thinner and helps with posture for your spine. They're safe as long as you don't over-tighten them, in movies they always over-tighten it because royalty is usually shallow so they want them to look as skinny as possible despite how uncomfortable they clearly are.

The waist thing that jungkook wore is called a corset. Back in the day women wore it to make their waist look smaller and give themselves nicer body lines. The whole I can’t breathe is actually a myth played up in movies. If you buy an authentic corset that’s accurate to your size then you should be fine. However if you buy a cheaper one of Amazon then I don’t recommend wearing it too often or for long periods of time because that could be dangerous.

A lot of wedding gowns or formal dresses have corsets as the top, they are basically something to make your waist smaller so you can fit into clothes (dresses) more easily or make you look thinner than you are, I prefer spanx, and depending on how tight you make it, it can be hard to breath in.

It’s called a corset. They used to be made of bone and silk, or cloth type material. Women wore them to train their waste to be skinny, to have a more shapely body, What we call now, an hour glass shape. They would have to tighten the strings on them, and sometimes they were worn to tight and woman would faint. I’m talking about European, Elizabethan age, Lords, and Ladies, Kings, and Queens, etc… they have some now, some have strings, some have clips, like what you see on the back of a bra, or snaps. They are not used as extremely as they used to be. But recently I’ve seen Tiktoc clips of women which these ridiculously small waist training their body’s with corsets. They also have a form of a corset that woman wear a lot under a wedding gown, called bustier, just makes everything look smoother. If it’s to tight, it is very hard to breath or even sit down.
