Crazy enough, BTS has had so many haters since the beginning! They’ve struggled and grown so much to get where they are today and that’s why ARMY is always so proud of them! I recommend listening to their Cyphers to hear their responses to haters!

I love that, In this video, they hit back at a lot of petty hate too. Like RM “uses too many filters” so he uses a bunch of filters. Or suga being told he’s too pale, so he’s wearing a white Snow White sweater. Love it. 💜 The good thing about bts is they have a lot of different sounds. You never know what you’re gonna get. This is one of the few CGI/green screen heavy videos.

I think you really should watch the guide to bts. I think you would love a deeper look into their lives as bts and what they’ve been through. Having that backstory can really help you gain perspective and appreciate their journey and artistry even more. I hope that’s something you’re interested in. It’s really informative. Love your reaction!!! 💜

Oh yes, BTS has a lot of haters. They get crap for pretty much anything they do or don't do and over the stupidest stuff. It has escalated to scary levels at times. This whole MV is delightfully petty. It has so many references to things they got hate about. Too Western - here, have a ton of Korean imagery and modern hanboks. You have a problem with CGI? Enjoy a complete fever dream. V is unattractive in glasses? (um what???) We'll make sure he wears them. RM shouldn't use filters? Sure, we'll throw that in too. I'm sure there are other things that I'm not thinking of right now, but this MV just makes me happy thanks to all of the stuff they threw in there. Even the beginning lyrics are about things they got a lot of flak for in the past. They were told they were too idol to be hip hop (directed at RM and Suga). On the other side of the spectrum, they were not idol enough and got crap for their looks (no, really). RM really struggled with this, which is why his opening lyrics are so great. You can call me artist You can call me idol Or you can call me anything else I don’t care And then J-Hope continues: I’m proud of it I’m free No more irony Because I’ve been me all the time translation via doolset doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com/2018/08/24/idol/

j-hope wearing a Bugs Bunny sweater and dancing with a skinny inflatable tube guy because he was called too skinny and lanky and they said he looked like Bugs Bunny. V being told he "dresses like a grampa" because of his love of classic fashion, so he wears a loud print shirt and suspenders and does a little grandpa suspenders dance. Jimin being called too feminine, so he dances seductively with a traditionally female Korean feather dance fan while singing "I'm so fine wherever I go."

To say BTS receive hate is an understatement. Since their beginning, it's brutal, disgusting, scary and unfair from other fandoms, as well from media or Kpop industry and Western music industry, and many more. It's so heartbreaking and infuriating, but BTS always manage to stay positive and inspiring.
@ashleyder9164

The degree of hate BTS have received even since debut is actually shocking... In Korea it was mostly a combination of being 'upstarts' from a small company who were challenging the groups from much larger companies on the charts, and releasing music that challenged the social status quo in Korea.

This video is a riot, and surprisingly savage for how bright and chaotic it is. they clap back at EVERYONE here. A couple of the big examples… -BTS had been accused of being lazy/fake and using too much editing and green screen in their videos (even though behind the scenes footage would often show how their team would painstakingly built real sets and use practical effects most of the time). So in response, they were like, oh, you want to see green screen, huh? And the outcome was this chromakey monstrosity. 😂 -people said BTS had become too westernized, and weren’t “Korean enough” anymore. So they wrote a song full of Korean slang and puns, and packed the video with Korean visuals and cultural references. The lion dance, the rabbit in the moon, the traditional dances… the colors, the streamers, etc. Other little things include RM’s use of those cutesy filters (which he had been criticized for using in his livestreams), j-hope wearing a goofy cartoon shirt and dancing next to one of those wacky flail-y arm guys (he has been criticized for being too silly), and jimin doing a traditionally-female fan dance (he has been accused of being too effeminate). And that’s probably just scratching the surface, plus there’s a lot I don’t get (like, what does Suga’s Snow White shirt mean?). Good stuff 😬

@@z0feya They are definitrly obsessed with light skin in Korea, and I guess a lot of KPop idols are accused of excessively whitening skin in photos. But I think in Suga's case it's mostly natural.
@NanciBK

@@isoldejaneholland8370 Yes, his natural paleness is how he got his name. Yoongi means, shining or glossy and it's why his parents named him that. HIs Underground rap name was Gloss also because of that. Notice how the Snow White sweater is white and sequined, so it's glossy? He pulls at it while rapping "I love myself."

Bts are damned if they do, damned if they don’t sometimes. Constant criticism of them and their fans. It’s one of the reasons fans are so committed, they know. It comes from everywhere, some people hate seeing kind people succeed. When I tell people I am a fan of Bts, I still get weird looks and comments. Especially because I’m older. I don’t waste my time listening to music that doesn’t make me feel something, or remember something or just feel connected. Ty!

as the comments said, yes they have lots of haters.. this whole music video is composed of what the haters say about them, including the filter.. like how haters said BTS became too westernized so they put this video dressed in their historical clothing, or how BTS "uses so much green screen" when in fact they used practical effect as much as possible so they have this MV 80% green screen, etc.... also, they have a handful of songs addressing their haters. this song is just like mocking the haters while also carrying a message of celebrating self love

Yeah they have sooo many haters, a lot of times even fuled by the media, boy bands in general get quite a lot of hate in general add to that the fact that they are Asian, touching on serious subjects, outselling the biggest acts in history and from a small company with very little pull, they were a very easy target

BTS has had haters since before they started. First the rappers in Korea, then the mega-kpop industry, payola, racism, xenophobia, stereotyping. A video by xCeleste (who is credible) with the word Harm or Harmful in the title will make you really angry. That's part of why they are the best - they took natural talent and worked and worked to surpass those hurdles. They also come from a place of love for each other, unusual in most groups.

BTS has received so much hate, even from the beginning when they were nobodies. Organized hate campaigns, industry sabotage, press slander, cancelled appearances, bullying by show hosts, many death threats and so on. There are multiple factors at play but the main ones are: 1) Korean Hierarchical Culture: BTS were from a broke, nothing label and most came from poor or working-class backgrounds. How dare they try to compete with the large label's groups? How dare they aspire to be "idols" who are supposed to be perfect and spotless and above others? The majority of them didn't even fit the cartoonish idol beauty standards, because they were chosen on talent, and so they were called "the ugly idol group." They were not even doing it right by the industry's standards, because they were honest and open and genuine, showing their flaws and fears and breakdowns in unedited vlogs and candid music, and being honest about their struggles and showing behind the scenes, unpolished, unfinished stuff. They were online, interacting directly with fans. No one in their industry was doing what they were doing. All of that was unheard of. They basically never attended idol finishing school and were allowed to be themselves and you can really see the difference in their free and chaotic behavior at award shows compared to other idol groups, who you can even tell which agency they are from by how they stand and how they speak. They were also Hip Hop and Rap based and that was a misfit for the industry too. That foundation meant their music was speaking truth to power in real ways, in Hip Hop tradition, which was also not something done in the idol industry. Clap back at your elders? Criticize societal ills? Again, how dare they? They also didn't have the connections and relationships to powerful people, labels and older existing groups and their fanbases, like groups from larger labels did. They didn't have connections to venues and networks and journalists. The large labels, especially granddaddy SM which was essentially a musical mafia, had their fingers in everyone's pockets and hands on everyone's necks and could exert pressure to get networks, journalists, shows, venues, etc to lock out or mistreat whoever they wanted. Other groups were not allowed to fraternize with them and encouraged to mistreat them. BTS said for years they didn't even feel like they were invited to the tv shows and award shows they were appearing and performing on, even though they were winning based on voting and streaming numbers, because of how everyone treated them. Even their debut year when they swept every award show's Best Rookie or New Group awards, the journalists ignored them and didn't take their pictures on the red carpets and so forth. All the isolation caused them to circle their wagons and become a very tight but closed off unit, only relying on one another. They wrote songs about their loneliness and alienation like: Whalien 52, 134340, Autumn Leaves, Butterfly, Save Me, Hold Me Tight, and others, and later We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal, which recounted their tough journey to find ARMY. 2) $$$$$: The large labels recognized the threat they posed immediately at their debut. They were monster rookies and their quality was outstanding even from their first performances at their debut. The big labels could not allow a rogue group from outside the industry from an Indie label to be successful with their unorthodox methods. They set out to crush them because they threatened both their own groups competing with them on the contest shows that the industry uses to get groups known, and because they posed an existential threat to their whole structure and way of doing things in the industry. The eight largest fanbases from the 3 largest labels, who are always fighting and never agree on anything, suddenly and mysteriously banded together to launch organized hate campaigns on these broke teenagers and their tiny label. The campaigns were obviously traced back to people at the labels orchestrating or instigating. Once that hate train was rolling, it gathered steam on it's own and became a juggernaut of people who were dedicated "antis" (Antifans) who will even regularly cosplay as ARMY online to make ARMY and BTS look bad. The industry was absolutely right to fear them. Their company is now bigger than the previous biggest three labels combined and the big three are imploding from the inside as the industry is changing in light of BTS' success and more artists are demanding better treatment and more corruption and abuse is being exposed. Now they are threatening the Western music industry too, and getting similar pushback from them. Western award shows using them for ratings and snubbing them (looking at you Grammys.) Publications using them to sell magazines while sabotaging them behind the scenes and so on. Our industry in the West is also controlled by just a few hands, and they can see the same threats as the S Korean industry did. BTS won't play the games, like paying for radio play, or bundling albums with merchandise to climb charts artificially (as half the billboard toppers do.) KZbin erases their views by the millions and hides their videos with the algorithms, Billboard and Spotify filter their streams by half or more for no reason other than to keep them down. Yet they still keep winning. You can watch "why the music industry is terrified of BTS" by boractiy magazine for more info. Racism and Xenophobia: With an international fanbase, they encounter a lot of push-back from people unfamiliar with their culture and language, and unwilling to learn, or just plain, old fashioned racism. From ignorant and insulting interviews, to harassment on the red carpets (their first AMA appearance on the red carpet the racist heckling is painful and infuriating to hear) to aggressive attacks from haters in the industry like podcasters, radio hosts, vloggers, journalists, etc. The Grammys (former) media manager had some things to say about the racism at play at the Grammys and in their social media, specifically relating to BTS. Just recently the New York Times did a doozy of a podcast where their "expert on KPop culture" guest was a well-known BTS hater online, and the host lobbed her leading questions to set up nearly an hour of BTS attacks and misinformation that included a lot of racism, such as saying other groups had better fanbases because they were more white fanbases. There are many videos about all these things you can check out. boracity magazine and xCeleste have some good ones on BTS Hardships, but the videos only touch the tip of the iceberg on all they have been through.
