how strong BTS is to openly admit their insecurities and express the need to better themselves as a person, this is a reminder to all of us who put our idols on a throne of perfection and forget that they are human beings like us, and that's what i appreciate it in all the members, they don't hide that they have imperfections or run away from reality, they face it. his maturity and growth over the years despite all the fame and recognition is truly praiseworthy.

BTS also taught me to accept my bad sides, face my insecurities and reshape myself… I accepted that i didn’t have to be perfect and I could make some mistakes. I learned from my mistakes and moved to an adult life. I don’t blame myself or my family anymore. I am so thankful to them.

Jin is the one who is always speak openly to army about sensitive topics. Even about disbandment here. I remember he revealed later that members scolded at him for revealing about their attempt disbandment. But genuinely I'm glad he revealed it. I mean we can see how hard they work for us

I mean I love his honesty, but after what happened after the last Festa I get why they scolded him. Imagine BH being already Hybe and at the stock market that day, then it's not just something you say, it's millions of money lost because people in the stock market are literally driven by stupid rumours. And then all the backlash by the media who is after every little mistake they might find, I mean that is exactly why they felt like they had to disband because media found something, inflated it and ran all news outleft with it, getting them even more hate that they usually get. But at the end, it only made ARMY realize that our men are humans too, that they can break, that we need to be there for them more and also sometimes give them more space and not expect the most unhuman things of them.

Jin is never afraid to be transparent and talk about or voice out sensitive things in front of the whole world, or even call out the most controversial topics. (He's the one who directly talked about disbandment, maybe that's why RM looked nervous about how Jin openly talked about it coz I don't think they planned to reveal this to ARMYs as we will all get worried) You'll see that in many more instances as you go along their journey. They are the real legends .now they have 71 daesangs(grand prizes) and 920+awards overall . Their are the only Korean act to sweep all for grand prizes for 3 years in a row . In their hiatus year (2022) they won 12 awards at mama including 4 daesangs and I am so proud of them because they definitely deserve all of the awards and love in the world . I will continue to support the members till my death 💜. Lil info : mama and mma are not based on votings exept few categories ,but grand prizes like album of the year ,artist of the year ,song of the year are completely based on charts/streams . I came into the fandom in early 2020 and knowing that they almost disbanded before I had ever known them is a reality I don't wish to imagine. So thankful they are still together and with us. The fact that when Hobi started crying, the members started crying with him, it shows how much they feel for each other. (Jin's voice is trembling, Taehyung is crying a lot, Jimin is trying to help with his smile, RM is trying not to cry, Suga is trying to be stoic not to cry, and if JK sees his hyungs start crying, it hurts him). My heart almost stopped when Jin started his speech. Now you really felt the song "Outro: Tear"🥺 They literally suffered because they almost broke up and the pain in this song is really too much.. I was slowly coming into the fandom at this time, and this was one of a handful of moments that really made me understand what it meant to be ARMY, as well as why a person would want to commit to that. I was so moved and impressed that for them, their success was a weight and a responsibility, to be considered and accepted carefully. As they work on their music and the fandom kept growing and they kept getting more awards, RM likened it to riding on a hot air balloon. They entered it thinking it would only reach a certain height, and they would step off and happily move on to the next chapter of their lives. Suga said he would have been content becoming a music producer. But as the hot air balloon took off, it kept getting higher and higher and when they looked around and looked down, they got scared because it looked like there was no way back down. And they were floating out of earth’s atmosphere and there was no one there but them. No other Korean artists have reached their fame, they had no one to talk to or get advise from. They felt extremely lonely and pressured to keep working hard (overworking to the point of being unhealthy and always stressed). And they missed just being like regular people. They’ve become alienated from the rest of the world. They can’t do normal things anymore without bad repercussions. What they eat, what they say, anything they do goes viral.

This speech got the whole of ARMY twitter sobbing. We were all blindsided with the disbandment mention, we didn't expect it. BTS were at the highest of their fame, with albums setting historical records. Tear came out after a long period of time comepared to the in-between album timeframe we were used to, so we were so hype and ready to support it and helped the boys break so many records, same with Answer, although the industry kept sabotaging them at every turn. That speech broke us, we know it wasn't easy for them, but we never knew we got so close to losing them. Like i'm not exaggerating when i say all ARMY twitter was crying. I was watching the award show with my best friend and we were gone the moment Hobi shed the first tear, same as the boys were, but then the disbandment announcement... And mind you, celebs in Korea (or in the West too, tbh) aren't so candid on such difficult and intimate topics.

I have been into so many singers celebrities but not gonna lie being an ARMY changed my life. BTS treats us like their own family, the 8th members of their group, their best friends. Army is nothing without BTS and vice versa. This has been said at many places that ARMY built BTS and there is no lie. If BTS faced prejudice, racisim and hatred Armies also faced all this together and we all came over it together like a family. Like which celeb goes live at 4am just to show the fans what im cooking and then goes to sleep on live as well sometimes. RM and Suga went into depth about why they were discussing about disbanding. by 2016, BTS blew up and by 2018 it was crazy. they were at the top. they said that the pressure of being on top became too much. the anxiety of making better music, better content, better performance. every time they make something, they have to top that for the next one. the fear of being on top and the fear that if they fall, it'll be devastating from this height. also RM contemplated that he was jealous seeing his friends date and just do what they wanted without eyes watching them. but while saying all of this, they said they feel like crap for saying and feeling these. like they aren't grateful.

This hits harder when you've been following them for 5 years 2013-2018 & have lived through the amount of hate bts got. It was ridiculous. Those last few years were specially hard. I remember when joon talked about the hate during Festa. This was also the time when bts decided to take a month long vacation to rejuvenate. First vacation since their debut PS. Jin was scolded (jokingly) by the members because he disclosed the entire disbandment thing

2017 + 2018 were huge for BTS. Their success really grew exponentially like no other. It was crazy! They were so busy and army was really just trying to keep up because so many different things happened and we reached milestones over and over again. So when they gave this speech we were shocked. No one really expected this. Thinking back they were signs (like yoongi crying because he was terrified of their success) but I think we all didn’t see them because with all the good news, how could anyone think of anything bad? Don’t get me wrong there were soooo many low points and these two years were packed with apprehension and anxiety for them ( ex. nov 2018). But in the end none of us really saw this coming so it was a huge shock. The fandom simply just broke that day.

this speech moved a lot of people including other kpop groups that are there listening in that venue. i remember seeing videos of other idols crying because of speech of jin talking about disbandment. i think it's because of these groups' struggles that makes them relate so much and how overwhelming events can be so detrimental to their mental health. armys always say that "bts only has us" because it's true, they rely so much on armys especially when things get tough and for them to open up such topic (disbandment) in front of their fans is something brave

Yes, ARMYS are the 8th member of BTS. I'm 62 and seen bands come and go over the years. BTS is the first group ever that I can say I actually love all their music over the years. Where other groups only 1-3 songs I liked then forgot about the group. I've been ARMY since beginnning of 2015 with a lot of criticism thrown my way. To know how much they struggled from the beginning as they start gathering the group members between 2010-2012. Watching their vlogs from back then, sharing struggles with their new found fans who became known as ARMY. They have always been appreciative of us, and they brought new meaning to music for me as a fan. Its been a pleasure to see these boys grow to be humble, loving human beings. They didn't let their fame go to their heads, they statyed to true to themselves and ARMYs. Just think what they have acheived since being teenagers till now. I for one look forward to seeing the amazing things they will accomplish in the future. This world needs more down to earth individuals like these 7 amazing men. Ppl usually criticise armys saying we jave parasocial relationship with bts saying "it's unhealthy", "they don't care about you", "they don't know you" etc but the thing is bts have parasocial relationship with us too. I literately cry every single time I watch this. I have been an ARMY since 2017. I absolutely love and respect these 7 men so much. Not only are they so talented, but their humbleness and love for us is so felt. One of the reasons I quickly knew I would love and support them forever. They are more than just an image or an icon. RM has said ARMY is the 8th member of BTS, and the other guys all agreed. There were times in the early days where BTS and ARMY only had each other against all the hate and the efforts to destroy them. That sort of baptism by fire forges strong bonds. 2018 was a very rough year. Not only did they grow extremely big they didn’t have anyone to really turn to and get advice from because no other group from Korea had made those types of accomplishments. Plus there was some other controversy that was directed at them that ARMY yet again had to educate even western media with the white paper project. It was a very hard year. So even though we didn’t know it’s actually not surprising in retrospect.

I was a new fan the year they won this award and to see this broke my heart and I found myself crying with them. I had no idea how mushc they meant to me already. We had no idea about the disbandment in general, we had seen vlives where certain members had expressed that they were struggling mentally. But when Jin said that, it really shocked us. I still tear up when Jhope breaks down like that :(

I became an ARMY year 2017. 2018 is really the year when they achieved so many things and got so much attention from the West. All the achievements they got that year was kinda overwhelming and everyone including ARMYs were really amazed on the outcome, probably the reason why they cried. Them talking about considering disbandment early 2018 surprised us. Every ARMYs on Twitter was very emotional after that. Anyways, the award wasn't fan voted. It was based on physical and digital sales, and other criteria I already forgot.

I became Army in 2018 when Idol was dropped. This was my first ever introduction to kpop. Then after some month MAMA 2018 happened and they delivered this speech. I didn't knew their struggles that time but this speech and BTS nobody's to legend video helped me getting more attached with them emotionally. I remember watching this speech and hear Let Go song over and over again and cried every time. Proud to be a bts fanboy. I love them so so much💜✨.

Oh this speech... they weren't kidding about everyone breaking down the moment hobi did. We didn't know before this speech that they had reached a breaking point in early 2018 and it felt like a very raw moment for them to admit that and really solidified how they had held on despite the hardships. I was watching the live stream and it was a little hard catching up with the real time translations on twitter. Didn't really know what was happening and when checked the translations, it was over for us. When i watched hobi cry, my soul left my body. Years after i saw him cry, that too was on stage. Also the other members. And when Jimin and Joon were trying to keep it cool and holding back their emotions, that made us assured. If they too cried, it'd have been an emotional mess for the whole fandom. But these things made our bond even stronger like who would on the stage talk about disbandment. They communicate most of the things with us without the fear of being judged or getting dragged by other media outlets. I'm super proud of them, we made it this far, as a family.

I cried so much when I watched that speech that day. 🥺And yeah, we didn't know they were considering disbanding until that speech, Jin said that the members and the company "scolded" him for mentioning that during the speech, but the truth is that because of moments like this when BTS is so honest and share with us some of their difficult moments and inner feelings, we get stronger. We can understand them better and feel closer. A lot of people were surprised because they were doing so well but olny them knew the amount of pression and struggles they went through that year. During the speech not only fans but also other idols cried and I guess it was because they probably had the same thoughts at some point and because some of them really admire Bangtan. I think the day of those awards and the Festa dinner of 2022 must be the days I've cried the most for BTS 😭😭 I'm so proud of them, they really deserve the best and I always wish for their happiness and health. They have helped millions of people and literally saved lives like in my case with their music, messages, content.. BTS and Army has such an special bond. We are strong. I can still remember this moment. I am Army since october 208 and this speech was in december 2018. I watched it live without understunding one word, but the moment Hobi strated crying i was so shocked. Thank god we have Armys who translate everything for international fans. I don't wanna know how hard it was for them, but i'm happy they decided to stay together and move forward. I'm so proud of them. I'm looking forward to whatever they will do in the future.

SAME. I'm South African and at the time I had only just started learning Korean a couple months before that and just knew k-drama phrases LMAO. So I could only catch a word here and there. I could tell with NO translation though that the crying was about MORE than winning an award. I freaked out SO badly. I was refreshing for a translation every second until I read it. THEN I freaked out even worse for the fact that we had NO idea what they were going through. I'm empathic and a really good judge of body language and sognals, so through JIMIN and SUGA I had been able to tell there was a lot of pressure and knew it must be heavu, but NOT ONCE did I ever have an inkling about them considering disbandment. My goodness. FESTA 2022 gave me flashbacks to that day, and it was low-key (high-key) traumatic at first. Until I really LISTENED to what they were saying and realising they need our understanding and support in this next step of theirs. They should ALSO react to JIMIN's video that was revealed AFTER this became public. The one of him alone in a hotel room wearing denim talking about how the guys were scattered after spending some time off together and he had been thinking hard on the whole situation. How he had come to the realisation that they NEED to keep going after rewatching all their concert videos with ARMY and how it made him realise THIS is why they do what they do. That they should FORGET about everything else and really focus on the reason they started doing what they love in the FIRST place. I think THAT was when everyone in ARMY realised what a few of us had learned before. That Jimin is the most mature and methodical thinker in the group. Coz HE was the one who said to the other boys, "I'm here having made the decision to STAY, and I'm waiting for you guys to come to the same realisation and decision". And they DID. Our boys are all INCREDIBLE. This world doesn't even deserve them, honestly. We're LITERALLY the luckiest fandom of all time.

I remember my best friend calling me right after it ended and both of us were crying and were just so grateful that they decided to stick together, the whole reason me and my best friend even became friends were BTS and she's the best thing that ever happened to me. It's a great one to use an example to express what you meant regarding armys and bts relationship. I, myself never have encountered an artist that gives and loves their fans so much and treated it as a part of them, until I met bts. and the fact that I've been a fangirl (from various artists) since I was 10 years old, that's saying a lot. Yes, the start of 2018 was their hardest, it was very emotional for them, they had a lot of pressure, not just within the group but outside of their company, you know the statement “it gets worse, before it gets better”? Yep, that’s what this was, some wanted to quit and disband, so they went off separately to think things through. We’re they going to continue for each other, because some wanted to stay, or were they going to disband because some wanted to disband. It wasn’t about themselves, it was about each member, I can give more, be here, stay here, for someone else. From that, we got “Outro-Tear”, “Truth untold”, and “Let Go”. I’m so glad they stuck with it, I found out about them in 2018, and became a fan at the end of 2018 going into 2019. Look at all the things they have accomplished since then! Just amazing.💜

OMG! I have seen this speech at least 4/5 times and sobbed every time. It breaks my heart every time to see them so fragile and vulnerable on that stage. And feel their pain and their fear of not being enough and wanting to give up. And still shows us how BTS is not like other groups. Showing such vulnerability in front of the public, in Korea, in the k-pop industry is huge. I think it's one of the most painful moments we have experienced as BTS and Army. I stayed up till 4am to watch them receive this award. This was a pivotal moment for their career, but also for my experience as a fan as I'd never seen them so outwardly emotional. I was so moved by their earnest response, my heart simultaneously broke and pieced itself back together hearing their troubles but so grateful that they've pushed through. The album that Outro: Tear was in was released in 5/2018, but this award acceptance speech was 12/2018 where Jin revealed that the question of disbandment came up (which i think happened early that year, btwn Jan-March). But we didn’t know Outro: Tear had connection to that until Jan 2020 lol. The Love Yourself album series covers the different aspects of love, so first is Love Yourself: Her which is happy, heart-fluttering and tingling feeling of love. Next Love Yourself: Tear released, which is about the pain of love like parting. Third, Love Yourself: Answer is loving oneself is when true love begins. So Tear was written as a break-up song (BTS usually write songs that are relatable/universal to the listener/army, no matter what inspired it) but in the Break The Silence docu-series, in one episode (if i recall correctly, Jan 2020) Suga said when he was writing the melody, it was during the time they were deeply contemplating whether they should stop. Long story short, for almost two years we thought it was a heart-wrenching break-up song but we didn’t know the melody (at least the part of the melody he is referring to) had any connection to the difficulty they were going through that time. BTS signed contract for another 7 years around Fall 2018 (October?) but it wouldn’t take effect until their 7th anniversary in 6/2020. Big Hit/BTS always plan the future 1-2 years in advance, so I think the time of reflection of their future was looming over them and at that time they were so overwhelmed from how they exploded in 2017 through to end of that year that they probably didn’t have time to think or breath. Like, wondering why are they doing this and do they want to keep going? They were literally running and running in their career at that point.

They didn't plan to reveal it since jin mentioned in the YOU interview that the members were mad at him for revealing it.... I'm glad he did though because that allowed the fandom to have a deeper understanding of their own struggles and hardships. This was a time when they seemed to be at their peak but there were hundreds of fandoms trying to drag them down, gladly they survived and thrived more than ever before!

16:23 we had no idea, but it all made sense after he said that. army twitter was in shambles for like 2 weeks after this speech lol! like imagine everything seemed okay all year, they were on tour, releasing albums, doing interviews and run bts and vlives. we could tell they were struggling to adjust to their growth through hints like their speeches/ run bts poems/ song lyrics, but overall they kept happy faces and bright moods. and then boom. we find out that throughout it all they had been suffering and considering disbanding. it was painful. MAMA was on my first night of winter break so i stayed up all night to watch it that year. they gave this speech at like 6am my time i think, and there were live brief subtitles. all i remember was reading something like "we went through a hard time this year, we considered disbanding" on the screen as jin cried and my heart FELL... i've never cried as much as i did that day.

I feel like a major context missing from the video and many of the comments I read is the reason disbanding was even brought up. It’s not just because they had a hard time… there are various moments when the members had a hard time. But in 2018 specifically- they had to decide if they would extend their 7 yrs contract or not- so they were faced with the business reality of contract renewal for another 7 years. There are various articles out there that talks about them renewing their contract in Oct 2018. Reasons why the decisions was hard: 1. The 7 yr curse commonly know in KPop 2. Military enlistment (at this time they did not yet have the special deferment rule in place) 3. Personal reasons for each of the members. Signing the contract is committing 7 more years of their lives to one another. ARMY, correct me if I’m wrong- but they were still also living together in one house.
