I think this was the performance that Suga's mic was not working mid-way as I noticed he had stopped rapping. RM and J-Hope were very professional and quick to take over his verse. These seven young men are truly talented, humble and have great showmanships.

It's a clap back at their haters who have tried to sabotage their success from day one. They continue to hate and continue their attempts to smear them to this day. There was talk about the hate on another Intro to BTS by xCeleste. They opened up their Busan concert with "Mic Drop". I saw BTS for the first time performing it live on Saturday Night Live. I scampered down the rabbit hole immediately!

“Mic Drop” was released in their mini album Love Yourself: Her. RM said the song itself was actually inspired by President Barack Obama’s speech at the 2016 White House Correspondent’s Dinner. This was where at the end of his speech, Obama dropped the mic and said, “Obama out” before making an epic exit with the literal Mic Drop 🎤. 😊 The action of dropping a mic after a speech or a statement soon became a symbol of one’s confidence and “swag”. RM expressed “Mic Drop” aims to do exactly that. Here is a quote from RM from then, “We added our Billboard Music Awards speech as a skit track. The track after that is ‘Mic Drop’, and it was inspired by former president Obama’s speech. His mic drop was something that expressed, ‘Wasn’t my speech dope?' In that way, our song ‘Mic Drop’ is a track that expresses our swag, hopes, and confidence.” I wouldn’t say that the song is dedicated to anyone in particular, but rather to all the people who have ever doubted them in their pursuit for success. And this may have been intentional on BTS’s part, as I’m sure they don’t want to explicitly point people out. I have always appreciated their way of a "diss track", be it this one or all the cypher's, because they aim at their haters without naming them and even better without curse words (on a few songs they do and it feels even more visceral and impactful because they do it so rarely), unlike their western counterparts. Low negativity but high impact imo. I also saw this song as a declaration of victory as opposed to a dedication to anyone. It’s confidence in their own success that they are expressing in the song, and they’re letting their several major accomplishments speak for themselves. A Kpop group as astounding as BTS is bound to have haters, and they know that. This song is just a way to tell them, “See our success? Challenge us if you dare.” this dong was a huge success in 2017 for BTS in America because this song was finally being played at radio stations. Radio stations would never play them before this song. It was radio success in many ways. But that changed much even now on 2022 where even after constant request to play their songs, they would make fun of army or out right dismiss it, unlike other western artist who have radio play with Payolla.

Agree with most of what you said except for the curse words, they do have that just not in this song ( RM -Joke, August D songs, Cyphers and so on. )I mention it so that we don't create false expectations, they do curse in real life and lyrics

But to summarize, it's a song to their haters, to those who never acknoledge them from the beginning (Like in Jhope verse he talking about them having dirty spoon but when they grab the mic, the beat those with silver spoon...)

The story is said in the rise of bangtan. RM was inspired by one of Obama's speachs in which he dropped the mic in the end to show he slayed his speach . This was around the time they started to enter the west market and were outperforming and winning over eastern artists and they getting so many hate for it . As many have said before, this is a clapback track for haters. What makes this song so powerful is that 1) BTS are typically too kind for their own good and 2) since they are Korean idols they are expected to keep it clean and subdued even while being insulted publicly to their faces. So whenever they face direct insults, disrespect, and outright hate they tend to simply take it. This is treatment they've received since some of them were still teens and it hasn't stopped to this day. So the songs where they address hate and haters are well loved because it's basically like fans have to watch someone be slapped 2000 times before they speak up against it once. It's a bit cathartic when we see them stand up for themselves rather than turning the other cheek all the time. They're only human and people take advantage of their niceness as an excuse to continue being awful. I'd say the best way to get perspective on why clapback songs or songs addressing hater exist (eg. Mic Drop, Ddaeng, Cypher 1-4, Ugh), you'd have to dive into the different types of hate they've gotten throughout their career. xCeleste has one that's pretty long but covers a lot (though not all since it's so much): kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5W8Z6qkgdiYqrM I know you had an issue with ads the last time you watched an xCeleste video. Plus you seem to still get lots of ads when you react now. that's the best video of that particular 4th Muster Mic Drop performance, it's from the channel Enjoy BTS More. Seems the 4th Muster concert footage was taken down, so Enjoy BTS More has to add in clips from fancams to avoid getting blocked. But hmm when I think 3 versions of "Mic drop" then I think: 1. original version from Love Yourself: Her album that come out in sept 2017, song in korean, hip hop track with more chill mood but hard vibe, my favorite version. 2. Steve Aoki remix with Desiigner that come out in nov 2017 (only one month later) there was only digital version on streaming platforms and didn't have Jhope and Suga parts, bc Desiigner took their time and they rapped with Joon his part, 2 lines each, mostly english version (lyrics like in MV version). 3. Steve Aoki remix version that is in MV only Steve and BTS, Jhope and Suga rap normally, that also come out in nov 2017 (only month after album), that version come out as official track on Love Yourself Answer album, 10 month later, that most lyrics are in english, and most know version. This is for me the 3 versions. Then is "Mic drop" in different language and here is Japanese version on japanese albums and there are also concerts versions like Tai version, this versions are only lyrics translated in different languages nothing changes musicaly, but then we also have this super concerts versions that change musicaly but they don't want to give them to us (like this Busan Mic drop ohhhh it was soooo good)... I don't know but I always looked at it like that, like 3 versions are org and remixes, and japanese is simply a translated song (but bc of translated lyrics are a little different like what happened with english version) but nothing really changes. Hmm

Your mic volume is fine. Personally, I would prefer the video sound to be turned up more. I’ve seen these videos 100s of times, but I still want to hear the music. Btw- since you like analyzing, would you consider reacting to some theories put out on BTS music? No KZbin reactor really does it and it’s a topic that interest me. -there are theories on BTS & Nirvana references - BTS & Peter Pan There are others, but I can’t remember them right now. And they are even not an acquintance coz Joon's crew (Daenamhyup) is come from his hometown, ilsan (and some of Daenamhyup crew members come to seoul to joined hit it first audition that also attended by some underground rapper from various provinces. B-free is not among the rappers who joined bighit rap competition) While B-free is growing up at Hawaii, he just moved to Seoul after he is an adult to build his career as underground rapper. They only meet at hiphop radio station (the radio owned by some popular n veteran rapper among hiphop community (the bald one who sit between Joon n Bfree) the owner is acquintance with Bang PD and he also know Joon n Suga that they are also from underground rapper from their province. That why he invited them to come to celebrated the radio 1st anniversary n performance at there. But some underground rapper include B-free didnt like when Joon n Suga is coming coz they are an idol, and they considered joon n Suga are not one of them anymore. That why they attacking Joon n Suga at interview while it supposed an interview for the radio anniversary (once Bang PD know about this, he get upset with the radio owner coz why he didnt step up to stop them embarrassed Joon n Suga. The owner is apologies to Bang pd coz he didnt know they will attacked them like that, coz they said they just want to ask about something to Joon n Suga but turned out, they mocking at them).

This song was for haters. The last part that said don't even apologize a lot of people say it's to the rapper that said bts look like girls because they were mekeup and made fun of thir name and style. He continued to say thing like that and a couple of years later he came and wrote a not pretty convincing apology cause so many people started to see that video and accusing him. Honestly the fictional story that goes thru the videos has nothing to do with BTS or the music, it is just another type of hidden art. But that story is very very complicated and you usually need explanation videos to get it. I would not recommend it at this stage, I would recommend whatching that after you know them and heard all the music.

I have my doubts this mini-film about ON would help him, as he just heard the song once before knowing anything about BTS, and being in the stages where he tries to discover them. At least if I got the direction he wants to go right. I think as he gets more comments, if he does not set a direction of how he wants to go about the content, it will get overwelming as people have different taste, not everyone in the comments followed his jurney and there is SO much content around BTS.
