BTS couldn’t outright say that this is connected because the government was blacklisting artists that were speaking out against the government. So this was BTS’ way of honoring the victims as well as donating to the organization for the tragedy. Spring Day is also the longest charting song on the Korean charts. It’s been on the charts for +140 straight weeks since it’s release, which is a testament to how much this song is loved being a BTS fan or not. Loved your reactions. I’m glad you both got to see the deeper meaning to the song and music video. It shows that BTS has depth and that they tackle a number of deeper topics within their music.

The article about the turn is wrong. It sank because they overhauled weight they shouldn't have. There is a lot of people being involved in this crime including the previous president of s. Korea who was notified but didn't let a rescue crew go and save them. There are videos online of both the girls and boys dorms right before they all died. They all had a feeling they would die. The Korean administration which tried to cover up culpability for the accident did a lot to suppress outcry and k pop members, most affiliated with the Big 3 music corporations, were largely stifled in expressing their outrage. BTS did so in a subtle way and it has stuck in the hearts of the Korean people. The government administration which was riddled with issues subsequently was removed. BTS also made a large donation to the survivors, something which for some reason was frowned upon by the government at the time. I guess they really just wanted everyone to forget and move on. The song still charts years after its creation which thankfully says the Korean people have chosen to remember.

The truth is , when it happened, the students wanted to leave , but they didn't want to disobey their elders , so they stayed. Its a really sad story how adults only boss people around and that fear is always with you. This is BTS' way of honoring the ones who are in a higher place. The reason they made the video with so much subtle hints is because, the Korean government blacklists all artists who speak about this so casually. So that's why a "Spring Day MV : Explained" video was made. I'm glad you decided to react to this because it is very sad and gloomy but there's no way we can reverse what happened. And the ones who left will always be in our hearts.. A fact about this song: Many people call Spring Day as "Petty Queen" , because, till this day, its number one trending in Korea. And when a new BTS song is released, its usually at number one , but then within a few days, Spring Day will come to number one again...

A good (and free on YT) documentary is called 'The Diving Bell.' It shows both the corruption of government and also the power dynamics of Korean society (as following those in authority is seen as a virtue; thus the children were taken advantage of on two levels: one by authority and another by age which is very important in Korean society). Even worse, the government kept telling parents that they could rescue the children despite turning away help from both the US Navy as well as private specialists.

From what I understand, the sinking of the ferry uncovered all kinds of corruption including payoffs to govt officials for permits/licenses without inspections, etc. The president of S Korea 'disappeared' for 5 hours on the day of the sinking and no one could find or contact him. The coast guard was not called for hours. A lot happened, included a total news blackout, so parents didn't even know for hours. This eventually led to the downfall of the government.

One important thing to,remember is the role that age/status plays in Korean society. It is a strict system where the younger would not disobey their elders, they are bought up to basically do as the are told. In this case being told by someone who would be considered a higher status than them to do something, they would blindly obey tragically it resulted in so many unnecessary deaths.

Some students on board of the ferry filmed what happened inside the ship while it was capsizing. In these videos, we can see them joking around at first, then gradually fearing more and more that they may not come out of this alive. These videos were recovered from phones found on the ferry during rescue operations and can be found on KZbin. All the students that were in the videos drowned. Seeing them record and send their last messages to their family just in case they die made me cry. It's something that I never want to experience in my life. I cannot imagine how the students' parents felt, sending their children for a field trip, and never seeing them again.

I dont know the full story, if i recall one report said, they were initially told to stay in their seat but one story was so they could check out what was going on. I beleive as it was a ferry not a boat there was not enough lifeboats for the people on the ferry. A few of those that did escape were ones who didnt listen and left their seats anyhow is my understanding of it. One report said the captain did pass the order to evacuate but was not carried out. Its a whole mess and extremely tragic and alot of he said, she said involved for someone like me who always heard the motto "Captain is the last to leave" this story through Spring Day was shocking to me. But there was and still is alot of grieving families over loved ones.

This incident became one of the reasons of the former Korean President Impeachment: Someone who should be in charge in this national crisis was absent for 7 hours that made emergency rescue not done properly, which made the situation worse. The Korean government today who's handling covid-19 wonderfully is the opposite party's government after the impeachment. Recently the Supreme Prosecutors' Office began to investigate what actually happened in the government at that time: it's a long way to go still.

To avoid misunderstanding about South Korea, this tragedy and government oppression happened around that time of year. The president at that time have long ago resigned (if I'm not mistaken). Not sure if the oppression still happens now (in which I think not anymore) but even if there is, it's not as badly how it was in the past. Still this is only a theory. BTS never told us what this MV really meant as RM came out with the lyrics when he's at a park missing someone. They leaved it to the ARMY's imagination considering how the theory just make a whole lot more sense. :)

I know I watch ur video kinda late but this Sewol tragedy really is something that couldn't be forgotten how so many nasty people involved in this criminal. You can see there's a lot of video on internet on how horrendous people who are involved in this accident. There's video where the family's victim recorded it showing that the people who hired by the government to save the victims just chilling at the deck while the families row their small boat at night as near as they can while crying and begging the so-called lifeguards that just chilling on the part of the deck ship that still afloat doing nothing while the students trap inside the half sank ship. The survivors were rescued by fishermen. Because of the negligence, many dies in this tragedy mainly because the drown and some of them trap in their bunk losing oxygen. You see, basically all of them could be rescued without causing casualties. but bec of this negligence 304 them died. The captain told them to stay put in their bunk while the captain and crew evacuated. Only 25 students who break the rules save with the help of fisherman who rush over to help them rather than those who supposed to do so. This tragedy involved with so many corrupt politicians that makes s Korea citizens provoked and doing demonstration. It's heartbreaking and the fact that bts used their platform to support the families and make a healing music really is respectable thing. The bts members and their label donate 100 million won for the families' victims. That's why this song really is something dear to Koreans. Spring day is still on chart in Korea since the song debut which is the longest on chart in the history and it's just show how powerful this song is to the people who lost their loved ones. I deeply sad by this tragedy bec of my friend who lost her friends and some survivors try to suicide bec they felt guilty to survive. Apart from that, the former gov ask them to forgot this tragedy. I just...lost my trust to people..

Bts has done great in shedding light on an event which the K government has for so long tried to cover up, but that’s just another reason for why they’ve achieved all that they have. They stand up and teach us to stand up against all forces which try to keep us in the dark. There are many charitys that you can donate to and help out as well that still provide the families support. Thank you for reacting !

Long and emotional comment incoming: In the seoul ferry tragedy, there was a group of girls and they posted on facebook a few days after the tragedy (the ship was still sinking) that they were alive in the ship and that they needed help. They also listed the names of the girls. One of the girl's mother saw this post and asked the government and stuff, but they said it was fake. The mother even got the post tracked and the post was sent from the same area of the ferry. Yet, they still didn't believe her. They told her it was impossible.A week or so later she got her daughter's body. But a few more weeks later, she gotbher daughter's sim card and when she looked through the photos, the daughter was wearing different clothes than the one on the body. Meaning that the post wasn't fake, they were actually alive and they had changed the clothes since they were wet, but nobody believed in them and the girls were left to die.

Oh man, here I am to rain on your parade some more. The story of the Little Match Girl isn't cute. She is a poor little girl from the lowest class selling matches on a street corner. Her dress is thin, no coat, and the snowfall is getting heavier as the sun goes down. She can't go home until she has money but no one is buying. Her fingers are so cold that she finally starts striking matches to warm them for a few seconds. When she does she sees a loved one who has passed away. Her visions continue as she strikes match after match - her family almost welcoming her as she freezes to death. I have no idea what the freaking moral of the story is.

This is a well presented article and video about the Ferry incident. Well worth watching www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/the-sinking-of-the-mv-sewol-and-the-confusion-of-disasters I think they said the ferry sunk because they overloaded the ship with goods beyond safe limits.

Here’s a link to the Sewol Ferry Documentary: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5CkaZenZ8t0a9E No need to react to it, but I hope you can check it on your free time. Spring Day is our Queen and is the longest chartin song in Melon. She’s never left the charts since it was released years ago. This is one of the many reasons why ARMYs love Bangtan so much.
