Yes, @Aizlyn Rose and Wish List combined have the correct definition of boomer. For word nerds like me I offer the following comments on why the word "boomer" was chosen. First off, we humans like to use one-word labels, and often use a single word for an entire concept. But why is "boomer" the label for this group of people? Do boomers boom? What would booming mean? Well, they weren't born as problem-causing, critical old geezers* as the rather recent term boomer conveys. They were born, as are we all, as babies. But these particular babies were born during a period (1946-1964) that people started calling "the baby boom". "Boom" means a time of increase. Similarly we use the term "blow up" to describe a sudden increase. ("Don't blow up my phone with texts!" "That trend blew up fast!" "Let's stream like mad and make this new mv blow up!") During 1946-1964, the quantity of babies being born ... blew up. It was a baby boom. Why so many babies? 1,000s of potential daddies had been away from home serving in WW2. When the war was over, they all came back, the single guys got married, the married guys came home to their wives, and soon everyone noticed the increase in babies. For decades, "baby boomer" had no negative connotation. It just meant a child in that generation. It was when these baby boomers had grown children of their own that the term Boomer came up. The current generation of teens and young adults wanted a word to refer to their parents and/or other disagreeable older people who criticized them. They shortened baby boomer to boomer, as in the "OK, Boomer!" meme. www.vox.com/2019/11/19/20963757/what-is-ok-boomer-meme-about-meaning-gen-z-millennials So, that's how boomer came to mean "critical old geezer who won't admit to causing difficulties for the next generations." * Anyone offended by my saying "critical old geezer" needs to be aware I am 61. Anyone in my 58-76 age group, including me, could potentially belong to this problematic subgroup. My intention is to show consideration for young adults. My generation has caused big problems. I'll keep focusing on getting the log out of my own eye, that I might see better to help get the speck out of others' eyes. And I might come to see the other person doesn't even have a speck in their eye.

I might add that Spine Breaker was inside their second EP Skool Luv Affair (which mainly talked about teens and school and societal pressure, with N.O and No More Dreams being previously promoted title tracks and Boy in Luv being promoted title track for this 'repackage'...) and it adds a whole new dimension as it kind of closes the whole disdain for Korean youth culture.

It's sad how I used to be a spine breaker. I remember seeing the mv with my friend in school, we looked at each other not only because of how weird the MV was, but because of how we used to be/are those kids BTS pointed out. In my old school and even know in highschool everything is competition. Who got expensive shoes, who's gonna buy the latest iphone first, who has a gucci watch on their wrist. I remember back in 6 grade I wanted a phone and I'm not joking I said these lines "BUT EVERYONE HAS A PHONE EXCEPT ME. I NEED IT". I was surprised knowing BTS got the perfect image of me back then. Luckily I broken out of the habit, unfortunately there's still kids who are spine breakers asking for their parents for those latest earbuds. I'm glad I am "poor". And I'm also glad for being a BTSARMY.

As a mother myself and had been thru for similar situations in the past I can see the social pressure to fit in. But as a survivor myself I can calmly say my children to just relax and not let it get to your head. There's always someone better off than you. There's always someone less favored as you. Appreciate what you have and work hard to get the things you want but don't lose your soul in the process. I'll get the things you need. There's always a new trend...that's what it's called a "trend" it comes and goes. Thanks for this video. Really appreciate the effort.

The more I think about it. The more terrifying that it relates so much towards my school and life. In our school, instead of padded jackets, we look at shoes (leather black shoes). There are two types of leather shoes that my school allows, flats and leather shoes that cover the whole foot. People who wore leather flats were considered less cool than others, seeing them as childish as younger students usually wore those kinds of shoes. To put it personally, I was one of those people. Luckily my school didn't have verbal or physically discriminating due to that fact but every student had this silent lingering judgment about it. In the end, despite not begging for them, my parents ended up buying the "cooler" kind of shoe from this particular brand. After knowing the meaning of this song, I now have more understanding surrounding the topic of social pressures and the struggles parents face when their child becomes "demanding". I won't throw away the shoes but keep them as a reminder to show more respect to my parents. BTS keeps on teaching me more life lessons to become a better person and I'm highly grateful for that. DKDKTV, thank you for your explanations so I can understand their life lessons.

Thank you so much for explaining these lyrics. I think this is a universal theme. Kids at my school have expensive brand jackets and shoes. They beg their parents to buy them expensive ass clothes and shoes that they know they’re going to ruin and stop wearing in a 4 months or so. A lot of parents struggle with money and work hard to put a roof over their head and food on the table, but SOME kids can care less and want clothes or shoes from expensive brands to seem cool or rich. I wonder if they know how hard their parents are working for them and how tired they must be. Yes, I’ve asked my mom for some stuff, but it’s never expensive, or at least I thought. I was like this when I was young and would ask my mom for a lot of toys never realizing how expensive it was. I’ve changed since then and realized how I don’t need stuff like that in my life. Not just toys, but other stuff as well. I hope other people see this and that it knocks some sense into their head

In Italy we say "spaccarsi la schiena", which literally means "to break your own back" and assumes the same meaning as in Korea: it's parents who break their back, their spines, for their children. I've heard it say from my parents a lot of times when I was younger, especially in middle school, when you think you have to fit in in order to avoid being bullied or ridiculed. The peer pressure can be exhausting sometimes, and maybe when you're younger and less confident you think the only option is to be cool and to look expensive, without caring about what your parents are going through to support you.

I looove you guys for doing the ~Explained series!!! It's one thing to see a direct English translation but quite another to have each verse dissected. Honest, this music video was soo hilarious. Who would've thought it had such deep meaning! Colour me surprised. BTS lyrics are their usp. They're what bring in new fans and make em stay for good. I'm Asian, I can tooootally relate to what they're saying. Nowadays kids believe they are entitled to things that would, even a few years ago, be considered a luxury. Parents work crazy hours trying to make enough to provide these 'necessities' for their kids. The pressure on teenagers to stay abreast, even ahead, of latest trends is real. So is the complete disregard for priorities and common sense.

I'm brazilian and I know how it is, but I don't think the situation is so tense here in Brazil. I believe this depends on the school you attend. I study at the IF, a government school, it's public, but it's necessary to take a test to enter, so we focus more on studying than on clothing. In other public schools, people don't care much about the clothes they wear, but in private colleges, as is their case, I understand that it is difficult. I've already won a scholarship in a private college, it was difficult, I'm from a poor family, it's easy to feel inferior to the others students.

I thought I could not get dragged any deeper into the BTSxARMY world anymore than I already am, but why is it that the more that I learn about them, they continue to amaze me with their wisdom and mindblowing messages? (more so thanks to DKDKTV for your 'explained' videos) They totally earn my respect and love and totally deserve the title "The Biggest Boyband in The World" I think they ARE changing the world a little at a time. Cause I know for sure they changed mine XD

Hi David and Danny! I just wanna say that I really appreciate your new series. It gives a new light and a deeper meaning to the songs that I love listening to. It also opened me to other group's songs like iKon (I'm a fan now). It's difficult for a foreigner to fully understand their meaning but becos of you guys we appreciate the songs more. ❤️ Also I noticed that so far you've only explained songs from Korean groups, can you also do a video explaining other artists like maybe IU, Epik High, Hyukoh and others? Their songs are also complex and their lyrics are also good but I would want to fully understand the message they want to give. Thank you so much and I hope you get more recognition for what you're doing 😊👍

i also thought the ending lyric about how the real spinebreakers are kids being in their rooms, was a reflection on how bts has moved out of their parents’ house and have to make a living on their own, but kids with high end brands are still living with their parents, leeching off of them for basic needs like shelter.

Guys thank you for this! Can you also do this for their other songs & mv's cause we know they do so much word play that every line had its own meaning and we, international army, would really love to know more about that and about korean culture that is represented in those songs.

This literally is what everyone needs to learn at my school. If you don’t have certain shoes then you’re considered poor or lame. If you don’t have a certain phone, then you are considered lame and poor. They need to learn that the kids who don’t have expensive things, are grateful for what they have instead of begging their parents to get them Jordan’s or a IPhone X.

I actually wish this MV had existed when I was still in middle school. I went to a prestigious school (bc of my grades, not bc of the money) and it would have helped a lot to understand that it wouldn't help me fit in better to have the same clothes as the others. I fortunately couldn't paster my parents about buying me expensive things, bc even H&M was expensive for us, so that was my luxury :D But it would have been so nice to listen to this and understand better at a young age how hard our parents were working for us and that it didn't make the other kids better than me just because they were having cool stuff.
