BTS faced a lot of hatred in debut times, and even now. There was a point that BTS and ARMY struggled so much just to keep going. 2!3! Was released as our first official fan song, where BTS sings about everything being okay, to offer comfort. They were too different when they debuted no one liked them. They were too low budget they got hate. Now they're too popular ppl hate them. It NVR ends and we all just push thru.

What's awful is that was an interview where they were invited guests to promote their album then they got ambushed by the rappers and made fun of to their faces instead. RM and Suga handled themselves (although you could see how visibly upset they were) respectfully and endured the interview answering very well but it was a dirty move by the other guys. I didn't join until 2018 but I remember k-army or korean army talking about how they would get harassed or bullied for liking them, other groups from the big 3 companies were the elite and popular but since bts was from a broke agency they got belittled and hated on a lot and so did their fans. Kpop had this almost class system where if you were from a big 3 agency which had the most money and power you were seen as a big deal but if you were from a small company like BTS was you were considered nobodies, they got mistreated a lot by show hosts who deemed them lesser than. They did get a chance to do a few tv shows and I know a lot of veteran army (been with them since the early years or debut) found them through the shows Rookie King (2013) and American Hustle Life (2014) on tv some like those shows and I understand that BTS took the opportunities they could get back then since they couldn't get on many tv shows or music shows then. But I personally find a lot of the direction of the production teams from the tv channels a bit questionable in certain choices (I believe RK was produced by SBS and AHL by Mnet) but it is what it is. I'm just glad they got tired of dealing with how they were treated and were able to start their own variety show called "Run BTS!" (2015). Working with their own crew and production team was a huge step up.

see you see how the school system is then the kpop industry doesnt look as bad. many of the things people labeled as "kpop" rules are actually korean culture and will happen regardless if you become a kpop idol or not. example i see a lot of western people saying "dont support the kpop industry they /force/ kids to get plastic surgery" when in reality kids are GIFTED plastic surgery so they can get CORPORATE jobs or into top colleges. of course there are some cases where a kpop label has a rule that all kids who become idols under that label need plastic surgery which is wrong but they are not "forced" and a lot already had it done prior to even choosing to become a idol many had it done just for regular schooling and regular jobs. or the diet things koreans in general view not being thin as bad and many western people who traveled there had very hard times trying to even find clothes that fit them in any store cause they barely sell big sizes. dieting is very normal over there. some kpop labels do over do it but its not so far from acceptable diets regular people do. having a curfew majority of korean kids have those regardless due to how much they need to study most dont even have time to go out and play 15 hours of studying BEFORE going home to do homework eat sleep shower etc so the tight curfews kpop idols have is not that different from regular kids. its when labels continue to enforce it once the idols are adults thats when it becomes a real issue. so many american/english/western media use these points to describe how horrible and abusive the industry is but they never point out the reality of regular people in korea and how the situations compare its really not /that/ extreme or different in korean society. of course when you compare it to another country like western then it looks horrifying but it shouldnt be labeled as a "kpop" problem it should be labeled as a korean society problem. and koreans are the ones who have to see problems and vote and protest to their government to make laws to eradicate the way the society runs if they do not push for it for regular people why would they push for it for kpop idols? thats why anyone who isnt korean or living in korea needs to research properly before saying "dont support kpop youre supporting abuse" this is coming from someone who hates the kpop industry and only supports bts but find things that arent common in korean society find things that you dislike about kpop that doesnt come from misinformed "news" from english speakers who didnt even try to research the topics. they looked at other misinformation from other english speakers and used that to make their own articles just reiterating the same misinformation over and over year after year. there are many other real reasons to not support certain kpop labels, real forms of abuse that isnt normalized in korean society and just bad music. a lot of western people will use the excuse of oh theres abuse to then say its bad music instead of just say i dont like this groups music and leave it at that they HAVE to find some negative horrible reason to justify not liking a kpop group and its weird cause no one does that for american artists. sorry for ranting hope you understand my points :)

Just a little ‘nice to know’ that I don’t think has been mentioned yet. Both the series title ‘The Rise of Bangtan’ and each episode title are actually the names of BTS songs, (As a song Rise of Bangtan is also often called Attack on Bangtan)

Great reaction! I wanted to mention that yes they had fans and won some rookie awards, but at this point BTS were still practically nobodies. It isn't unit 2015 that they start gaining traction.

The rapper B-Free that called them girls ended up in prison for attacking a man in a club... we call him WannaB-Free now.... the day he was sent to prison was the day Suga released Daechwita... Karma is a bitch!!! He did try apologising to ARMY years later but it wasn't sincere and he was called out. BTS do reference this guy in Cypher 3 where Suga says for washed up rapper to go to Hawaii... that is where BFree is from and where he can go back under the rock he came from. Who's laughing now 😂

Don't forget the deleted scenes and bonus content for each chapter... best to watch them as you go as they relate to each chapter and if you wait to the end you will forget bits and it won't make as much sense.

The Rapper who called them girls for being Idols went to prison, so F him. Bangtan was considered a bit of a flop in the beginning years. I think idol fans weren’t sure what to make of them. But their music quality was always there, and that pulled the through. Seriously, you can go back to those early albums and they are still bangers!

BTS was seen as a threat right of the gate but they were a very small company. 10 people! The large companies were not going to give them room on shows etc so they could show their incredible skill. Everyone knew out of the gate these guys were good but it took time for them to gain traction bc they didn’t have a big company behind them.
