Spring Day is a song that came out around the time of the Sewol Ferry Disaster in South Korea some years ago in which hundreds of high school students lost their lives. It gave comfort to the victims families and a country that was grieving at the time. You should look at the Spring Day music video and the explanation video. It is very emotional.

Their song Spring Day is about missing a loved one who can not be reached, but was dedicated to the Sewol Ferry Tragedy. Because of the historical context and great emotional impact of this song, it has never left the Korean charts from release till now. To put it into perspective, the impact of the Sewol Ferry tragedy is comparable to 9/11.

Good to see this getting many likes. Because so many times ARMYs are misinformed that Spring Day is about the Sewol Ferry Tragedy. It is not. But the MV definitely references the incident and although no one from BTS nor Bighit has outright mentioned a connection between Spring Day and the tragedy we can assume the song, or at least the MV was dedicated to the tragedy.

It's comparable to 9/11 in more ways than one.
@ke76152 жыл бұрын
Backing tracks/not singing live in kpop, I would say happens for a few reasons: 1. choreo is very demanding, 2. pressure to be perfect and not make mistakes, 3. some young groups are not vocally strong yet. BTS is one group that always sings live, though they do use backing tracks to help create the vocal layers and will stop singing for certain words/lines when needed, e.g. if they're doing a difficult dance move. I don't know if you've seen them live but they really go hard. If they're sitting down or not doing choreo you will see more live harmonies - like in this performance there were some, and the Fix You cover is another example. Generally though it's one person singing at a time.

The back up vocals are prerecorded, usually by Jungkook, Jimin, Jhope and sometimes Jin and V in various combinations. It would be impossible to sing the back up harmonies and the main lyrics at the same time, especially live and then you add the strenuous Choreo these guys deliver, well, you can see where I'm going with this - it just is not possible to do all three. Once you get to know BTS much better (believe me, ya heard nothin' yet), you will see they actually do vocal harmonies a lot, especially JK, V and Jimin, even when they are just goofing around together, for their live vlogs or live on stage. There are so many albums and so many great songs to hear, you have only touched the very tip of the iceberg. Good Luck with the dive down the rabbit hole and lots of fun.

The thing that separates BTS from so many, is their knowledge and love for so many things. Some artists tend to stick to what genre others expect them to do. BTS has a long list of influences and appreciation from music to visual art. So you hear the diversity with their sounds. From the very beginning, they have always incorporated English into their music. You'll have people tell you they're "Americanized" because they made 3 English songs...3!!! English tracks come when English-speaking artists wanna work with them. Their music is forever changing and remains the same. Some fans want them to "stay the same". But with growth and discovery comes new ideas and new opportunities. They have fans from all over the world. I wouldn't be surprised if they create a song in Hindi. How many artists create music to include everyone? 😊

I love their band. I think they are called "Ghost Band" They write their own music, since the beginning. I can recommend a few introductions, I'm glad you reacted to this, I recommended it probably about a year ago, among other songs as well. They debuted in 2013 as a Hip Hop Idol group, and they have written and produced their own music with in house producers as well, since the beginning. They were given creative freedom and encouraged to make their own sound, and their CEO - Hitman Bang of Big Hit Entertainment - wanted them to incorporate their own feelings and emotions into their music. Their sound has evolved and changed over the years to include many different genre's of music. They are not afraid to try new genre's or use their platform to send a message. Since day 1. Anyway, I will link you some introductions. The first one on my list was created by a very talented ARMY that does video editing for a living, and I love how she told their story, and how it shows their relationship with each other and with ARMY. I highly recommend it, as well as a lot of other ARMY's that have checked it out. The second one is really good, but it talks more about their accomplishments and discography, and not so much about them individually. It also is not as up to date. The third is a standard introduction, well done, but not up to date. *Here are some introduction links for you if you are interested: I chose these out of the many on KZbin because they are very well put together, informative, and up to date.* 💜 **NEW 2022** BTS Member Introduction (Draft) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2HQkIGlYsSZfdk The Most Beautiful Life Goes On: A Story of BTS (2021 Update) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/amm3lJKPZ7pjisk An Introduction to the 7 members of Bangtan (2021 Update) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXi1naSvqtCsaNU

They do write their own songs most of the time, but, also bring in outside writers sometimes (or in-house in the company), but they always have a hand in writing, composing and producing their own songs. Generally, Jungkook as the main vocalist sings vocal guides for the others to learn their parts. That is not 100% the case, but it applies to a lot of the songs where all 7 are involved. So when you heard that recorded harmony in the start of Spring Day, that was likely Jungkook or one of the other vocalists pre-recorded part. Jungkook does a Lot of ad libs and harmonies, though I have started to notice the other vocalists doing more and more harmonization. They ALL sound great together. RM, Suga, or J-Hope write the rap sections. Spring Day has a much deeper meaning, but as with most of BTS songs, you can interpret them several different ways. There is an Official MV for that one, as well as some interpretation videos that give you a back story. If you want just the vocal line (Jungkook, Jimin, V and Jin), please react to House of Cards (Live with English subs). I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Love the reaction. As to the harmonies, I don't know about the other groups in K-pop but BTS does most of (sings) their own background tracks so it would be difficult to them to do both the background and sing at the same time, lol. Also, they harmonize a lot during the song but the focus is usually on the person that has the vocal focus so they don't really show the other person so sometimes people think that is background and not them singing. The vocalist will do a lot of harmonizing with the rap line when they get slower song like the last one in this set. Anyway, look forward to more BTS reactions from you.

Really glad to find your channel. As for your question with recorded harmonies - yes, they are prerecorded and, as far as BTS is concerned, any voices you hear prerecorded are theirs. It's recorded as an instrument - like a guitar, drum, piano - to add to the song and performance. The do harmonize and often times you don't see it happening because they are focused on the main singer of that line. Spring Day is written to provide comfort during a time when Korea was feeling the major loss of so many during the Sewol Ferry disaster. Spring Day was released in 2017 and has remained on the Korean music charts every week since then. It's a song that, even today, when performed, ARMYs will song along and still cry. It's that deep. The answer to your question about the harmonies is that typically jungkook sings a lot of the harmony parts and layers them to make the harmonies in the background. I'm also a musician - I have a Bachelors and Masters in Music and my main instrument was voice. What I've noticed is that when BTS first came out, they strictly sang in unison. Sometimes, there was a prerecorded harmony in the track - most of the time sung by Jungkook, or one of their former producers named Adora. As they have matured, their voices have gotten stronger and they have started singing more harmony themselves, both on the tracks and live. In my opinion, Jimin's voice has improved the most. V is my favorite, but he does tend to push the pitch at can be flat at times. But, he has a great range. I also love how all the rappers (RM, Suga and J-Hope) are so lyrical with their rap. Their rap always has a pitch. Jungkook is definitely the steadiest vocalist. Jin has come a long way, but can push to much with the throat. But, when he pops up into his falsetto - man. It is beautiful. To see a really fun performance, I'd suggest watching the Festa Live Room. It is kind of a timeline of all their styles and hits.

Spring Day - Was a song written in reference to the sinking of Ferry Sewol in Korea where over 100 children and others drowned. Kind of a memorial. The video is moving and BTS is best at intertwining movies, books, and such to help you experience the meaning emotionally. This is a song of hope and memorial to those who lost loved ones... Spring is coming. Other artists recorded this song and it is still on the charts in Korea. Also, this was recorded during the pandemic and they are waiting for the pandemic to be over ... maybe Spring. The part that tears me up is towards the end when V sings... through it all your my best friend... i cry.

Left to right, J-Hope, Suga (he took his stage name from "Shooting Guard" cos he played basketball), Jungkook, V, Jin, RM and Jimin. Those harmonies you referred to were about 2-3 layers of Jungkook, so it's impossible for it to be performed live. He has done most of the background vocals on their songs, though others sometimes join in as well. I have heard isolated tracks for a 4 part harmony he sang, and then all of them put together. It's magical! These guys are a group like the Eagles, or Fleetwood Mac, where every single member is crazy talented and makes vital contributions to the whole that takes it to another level!

The Ghost Band that is performing with them here is also touring with them for their concerts from the start. They're all exceptional musicians on their own.

Spring day can be attributed to missing anyone, not necessarily a relationship but a friend or other loved one. You should watch the spring day explanation video by Italian Army

At least in BTS, those harmonies you mention.. I always view them as part of the instrumental, like using their voices as instruments, not as actual parta of the song. They have them in this type of emotional songs, and they usually put this songs at the end of concerts when they say good bye... so you have a beautiful atmosphere while they talk to the audience. And they sometimes sing those harmonies live in those moments

In my humble opinion, I think you are correct that they partially BTS (and maybe Kpop in general) choose quality of performance over attempting multiple harmonies during live performances. With their complicated choreography and intense crowd interaction, they still want to put on the best show for their fans; however, I have also come to strongly believe, at least with BTS, that they know when harmonies are present, you usually end up with a "lead singer" and they would avoid that at all costs. They never want to outshine each other. They throw their harmonies in sparingly to let us know they are definitely talented enough to do them, and let each member shine on stage/camera. I love them!

Spring Day is a song in tribute to the more than 300 young people who disappeared in the Ferry sinking. ❤

BTS members have been involved with lyrics and production from the beginning (2013). RM is most prolific at this time, followed by Suga and J-Hope. These are the three rappers of the group. The vocalists are beginning to catch up. The English songs: Dynamite they made some changes. Butter & Permission to Dance they performed as presented to them by the Western artists. The rap and Korean lyrics are all theirs in the collaboration with Coldplay for "My Universe".

On Spring day, the background vocals are a fan chant. That’s why they are recorded. Spring Day is a heart breaking song as it was written about the Sewol Ferry tragedy. If you would like more background, just search this: Sinking of MV Sewol! It is one of the most heart breaking and probably one of the largest government cover ups ever seen. 250 students, who were told to stay in place in their cabins died as their parents watched from the shore as the ferry was sinking. Fisher boats and commercial boats saved around 172 people, the captain and his crew were charged for murder and the President of Korea is still in prison to this day for her involvement in the cover up. I remember when it happened, watching the coverage on TV. Gads it was years ago and I am still crying as I write this. The govt declined help from other countries in the rescue and as fishermen and commercial were approaching the ferry, they were turned back by Korea’s coast guard on orders from the government, yet the coast guard played no part in rescue efforts of the passengers. It’s a tragic story of government corruption at the highest level and the children who paid for it. This song was very controversial, and their own music company had to step away from support in order to save itself and explained it was the boys feelings and their song. It was debuted in 2017 and still remains in the Top 100 on the Korean charts. The deeper meaning behind it is hope for a new day to come, which springs eternal! Hence Spring Day! These guys are brilliant. RM has an IQ of 148, I don’t know what Suva’s is, but he writes 100’s of songs a year. For the group himself and other people. All 7 are extremely talented individuals and as a group are crazy crazy good. I was dragged to my first concert by my granddaughter 15 at the time, had ear plugs. Didn’t expect to get out of my seat…the first song started and I was up and out and was dancing, learning fan chants and left 100% Bonafide ARMY! At this point the rappers all have mix tapes, or solo albums in the US! Suga goes by Agust D, Hopeworld is J-Hope and RM is RM…..look that stuff up…it will blow your mind what these guys rap about!

The harmonies were actually live during Dynamite in this performance. They don't always have the person in the frame doing the harmonizing.

The band accompanying BTS is their longtime band, Ghost Band, who accompanies them live on tv shows and on tour. Highly talented. Great musicians. Most of the background vocals are done by the members themselves, and mainly Jungkook, who is the lead singer. He does all their guide tracks. I think you see less harmonies in kpop because the groups are designed for fans to fall in love with individual members so they try to give each member a time to shine. With BTS their are many songs where they sing more harmonies. There are many documentary style videos to get to know BTS. Some of the best are: Who is BTS: The seven members of Bangtan by XCeleste. And A Beautiful Life Goes On: A story of BTS 202q update by Asian Theory. They have over 300 songs which cover a large list of genre including hip hop, pop, rock, r&b, edm, jazz, disco, rap, etc. They don't limit themselves to a sing genre. BTS is made up of 3 rappers and 4 vocalists but they all can do everything. Most of their songs are written and produced by the members. They're contribution to their music is amazing.
