Ned played like crazy this whole set!! Really showed off his character expertise with good use of Sephiroth's moveset in various situations such as Footstool Down-Air OoS, landing Up-Air from ledge, angled down F-Tilt at ledge, side-Bs to contest Pikachu's approaches with Thunder Jolt, Up-B Octaslash/Blade Dash mixups on the ledge depending on Esam's reactions from the last time he did it, etc. Awesome stuff.

This was the hardest set i've had to watch as a Brawler main and Seph secondary LMAO but both players played so so well, it was a blast to watch!!! One thing i noticed this set was that esam overextended from utilts a bit too much, thinking he'd be able to get another utilt or an uair when it forced a platform tech instead. He coulda easily taken like 2-3 extra stocks by acknowledging it was gonna force a tech and tech chase with a grab

Yeah I noticed that too especially with the up tilts. Also using shotput as a means to cover your landing usually works well, but I was surprised to see how ineffective it could be against Sephiroth's fair like at 6:43! The games were all so close and it seemed like Esam was a hair away from winning this set, I wonder if he should have stuck with Brawler the whole way.

Taunt to get bodied. By Sephiroth. I love it. Regardless of how unlikeable his opponent was, Ned did an AWESOME job; not only did he win against one of the worst (if not the worst) of Sephiroth's matchups, but one of the best players who main Pikachu.

Ned is one of my favorite players, but man, he's way better than this--shouldn't have even gone to game 5; he overall played quite poorly this set. Underutilized side-B and up-air. Brawler has an exploitable recovery BUT NED WOULD JUST LET HIM RETURN TO LEDGE UNCHALLENGED. Mega/giga-flare and counter are both nice answers to Brawler's up-special (not to mention just chasing him off stage with fair/bair). Esam was playing very aggro, and some well-placed side-specials and counters would have slowed Esam down and forced him think twice about approaching so brazenly--which is where Sephiroth is at his best. That being said, Ned came in clutch on the final stock of game 5, which is where it really counts. Smooth, impressive, movement and fantastic management of his spacing on the stage. The up-smash to seal the deal was a very satisfying ending.

Ya Ned literally didn’t use neutral b, down b, or down tilt until game 4. All great moves, I was wondering why he wasn’t throwing them out more. He was playing scared probably cuz he didn’t know the match up.

Whiffing a projectile could easily mean 40% damage against characters like fighter and pika. Especially when their whole game plan is to jump in on you. They’ll be 100% ready to jump over a side b.

Also when I typed my first comment I had just started watching the vid so I assumed by reading "yea Brawler ain't it" Esam was gonna lose 3-0, but was happy to see it go to game 5 how close this set was! Even when Esam lost with Brawler it was always pretty much a last stock high percent situation. Like another commenter said Esam was over extending with his up airs and up tilts I really do think he could have won otherwise.

He's not one of the few characters that have absolute insane shit with 0-death combos off grabs or jabs, but he's top 25, still, stronger than Byleth. Ned's gameplay is honestly quite rusty-looking and Tweek is still learning what's optimal and when, too. Needless to say the performance of these two players isn't what's telling me Sephiroth is a strong character. What tells me he's strong is how he invalidates recoveries, breaks shields and kills even Bowser at 0%, deals over 30% off a relatively quick projectile, that forces your opponent to play the game by your rules for 4 seconds, has a crazy recovery, has the best comeback mechanic in the entire game, spaces out opponents well, making it difficult for them to get in and do what they like to do... do I need to say more? If you don't like the character, that's fine, but if you don't know what he has to offer, or you're a bald Mii player, your opinion should be taken with a grain of salt.

​@@toowiggly His opinion has since changed. If you find his latest tier list on twitter, he put Sephiroth in bottom 50%... which is a 3head move. The entire list is meme material, really. ESAM apparently will call more than half the cast high tier or better, he puts tiers between echo fighters, etc. It's a hot take on which characters are worth picking up. But if that didn't prove my point, find him on the Panda YT channel, where he'll randomly bring up that Sephiroth sucks, whenever the character is mentioned. Tweek and Marss clearly share that opinion, as they've stated the same exact thing at least once quite recently. What triggered this, I have no idea, but top players suddenly changed their minds on Sephiroth, it seems. Weirdly, he still puts half of Sephiroth's moves in top tier in his move tier lists, as if his hurtbox and weight alone warrant a character with the greatest moveset possible to not be top tier and he'd rather play a crap character with lower risk/reward. In the end, ESAM's opinions are known to be questionable at times. As stated before, take anything he says with a grain of salt.
