In the Philippines, there are still a lot of fake news or misconceptions about concrete repair and the use of bonding agents. This could be due to a variety of factors, including:
Lack of education: There may be a lack of education and training for contractors and DIYers about the importance of using bonding agents, leading to a lack of understanding about their benefits.
Traditional methods: Concrete repair has been done for many years without the use of bonding agents, and some people may continue to use traditional methods that do not include bonding agents.
Cost concerns: The use of bonding agents can add to the cost of a repair project, and some contractors or DIYers may choose to save money by not using them.
Misconceptions: Some people may have misconceptions about bonding agents, such as thinking they are not necessary or that they are difficult to use.
To address these misconceptions and lack of awareness, it is important to educate contractors, DIYers, and the public about the benefits of using bonding agents in concrete repair. This is why we're launching a new segment called FAKE NEWS sa CONSTRUCTION to debunk misconceptions or confirm theories around construction chemicals.
In this segment, we prepared a small experiment regarding bonding agents.
Bonding agents are necessary when repairing concrete because they improve the bond between the old and new concrete, ensuring a strong and durable repair. Without a bonding agent, the repair may not adhere properly to the existing concrete, leading to cracks, delamination, and failure of the repair over time.
Bonding agents work by filling any gaps and rough spots on the surface of the old concrete and creating a chemical bond between the old and new concrete. This results in a stronger and more cohesive repair that is less likely to crack or fail.
In addition, bonding agents can also improve the overall performance of the repair by increasing its resistance to water, chemicals, and other environmental factors. This helps to extend the life of the repair and reduce the need for future maintenance.
Cement Grip is an acrylic-based bonding agent that has 2000psi tensile strength. It is recommended for repairing concrete structures exposed to light to medium traffic or load, such as residential areas, offices, bathrooms, and vertical applications.
