What I like about this is that in the beginning everything has a sinister face and draped in shadows. Yet the lights go on and everything is all colorful and cute. Although this is definitely the best animation the anime has had in a while, calling this a perfect example of anything is insulting to whatever you're trying to compare this song too. the furniture dancing was literally 3 frames played and reminded over and over again, and the last scene showing off all the homies and BM seemed jumpy and cut awkwardly. There is no argument saying that Toei Animation has really gone down the shitter since Dressrosa, it's just a fact. They know people are going to watch regardless, so they don't really care about making the episodes and great and detailed as they used to be. The voice acting is phenomenal, I will admit, but that really doesn't mean jack if the characters look like paper cutouts and move "so fast it can't be seen by the human eye".

This has to be one of the most unique villain introductions I’ve seen. It characterizes everything about Charlotte Lignin’s character perfectly in the most One Piece way taking advantage of what an anime can present over manga. At first we could see the ruthlessness and cruelty of Big Mom’s officials in every island with how easy the mow down the islanders to exploit their natural resources. Once we cut back to Whole Cake Island, the whole place feels unwelcoming and ominous with the sinister faces amongst the homies before the whole mood of the scene does a 180 turn and brights into a whimsical carnival song you’ll except from an old Disney/Don Bluth movie, which in case it gives Big Mom her own villain song. As the song progresses, the lyrics are a mix of childish and macabre undertones that reflects Big Mom’s Childish and Destructive demeanor (Think about it as if what if Fat Buu retains his childlike personality but still has the destructive instinct of Kid Buu). Which also in conjunction tells us that beneath the utopia-looking frosting of Totto Land Archipelago, hides the malevolent and dark truth of the suffering and sorrow of all those the Big Mom Pirates have tortured.

I’ve always thought that big mom as a person doesn’t exactly have evil intentions, despite her actions, I feel like it relates to her upbringing and past. This is amplified when we see her lose her memories in wano where she acts genuinely kind hearted and nice to the people around her. So while big mom is definitely a bad person because of her actions, I feel that big moms horrible actions were due to influences in her past, most notably mother caramel, who was the source for the idea of totto land (and likely the big mom name itself), and secondly streusen who taught her that anything she wanted she could have, and anyone who defied her was worthy of death. Of course none of this justifies any of her actions but still gives reasoning to them beyond “she’s evil”.
