Buccaneer Bermuda 2022 Review : Is it worth £43k?!

Once again another honest review. I speak as a Buccaneer owner and we paid 31.5K in 2019 for our Cruiser. To think now it’s 43k is mind blowing. Totally get what you say about some of the fittings as we agree they could and maybe should be better. Look forward to the next review in the meantime we’ll stick with what we have

Personally, I wouldn't pay 43k for a caravan, depreciation alone would put me off. I saw a dealership today who is starting to see the market stagnating, tough times ahead I think, the boom last year cannot be sustained, it will level out, prices might even drop and dare I say it, supply might outstrip demand, that hasn't happened for a while, great reviews as always 👍

coachman lusso 2 looks far nicer than this, the Buccaneer Bermuda 2022 just doesn't have the wow factor anymore, great review

Nice review Karina 👌 👏 Not sure who the target market is. Probably seasonal caravaners. I suspect in present times it's not going to be cheap dragging that around the country and with such a small payload, would it be practical to tour with 🤔. It's a nice caravan but spending that sort of money we think like you, the wow just isn't there and that was Allys comment when we viewed one at the open day. I'd expect an engine and steering wheel in it for that price. How much do these actually cost to build? Can't be more than £8K to £10K in Bill of Material costs, especially at the manufacturers volume purchasing rates. Whilst 2020/21 was a killer time for production and demand was outweighing supply, they are going to reach a point soon where demand drops right off and people start leaving the caravanning community. The manufacturers must think customers have money to burn ... just as the cost of living, fuel and energy prices outrun wages! Another great review BTW. The styling of the Buccaneers is still up there with the best.

I think your way out on costs there. I’m a buyer and raw material costs have increased 100% since august last year. Aluminium is around £12,000 per tonne Brass is £8,500 per tonne Stainless steel is around £7,500 per tonne and plastics are astronomical. Plus as a manufacturer we are experiencing courier surcharges energy surcharges heat treatment and plating surcharges. Not to mention extra costs in wages NI and pension contributions. All these have to be factored in to the costs. Lead Times are going out all the time and with orders well into 2023. Prices will never come down. I’ve just took delivery of a Buccaneer Commodore 2022 paid £42k with air con and motor movers had the weight upgraded to 2 tonne cant see a problem on payload I always put heavy items in my car Worth every penny in my opinion the price you mention is for 2023 models.

Approximate retail prices for the fridge is £2.5k, for the E&P system £3.5k, for the Aldi boiler £1.5k, so I think that your materials costs estimate seems low to me.

Hi Karina, thanks for doing the review on the buccaneer. I will give you my penny worth, for the price l think l would of liked more of a payload and not have the self levelling system to increase the vans payload, l would like to of seen for the money soft close cupboard doors and the pull up extension table in the kitchen would be a lot better if they had a pullout flap at the front so not to have the tightness around the door entrance. The door to the bathroom those not seem to go right to the roof height so would not cut out any cooking smells or I’m l not looking at it right? I payed just on 31,000£ for my Swift Challenger 8ft wide and to be honest l prefer what l have even though it’s a lovely caravan but not worth the ticket price of 43,000 l would of said more 32,000 for that spec. Like with you it does not have the WOW factor for me. Think they need to go back to the drawing board to be honest. The bedroom is also quite basic too. To have leather seats 1400£ take it that would be also the headboard in the bedroom. Very over priced for something that’s not even upholstered other than the headboard. Paul and Linda

I would imagine they have used the 2000kg Alko chassis which limits the payload, I would like a higher payload on a bigger caravan like this. I’m definitely with you on this one Karina. I didn’t blow me away for the price tag. The living area was nice, but the bedroom just felt really cold and lifeless, very sparse indeed. I did like the decals on the outside and the overall externals look nice, but that front locker would be a total no go for me.

There are going to be a lot of jobs lost in the industry if these manufacturers don’t STOP and think. With in the next 12 months we are going to see everyone looking and prioritising their budgets and new caravans at this price are not going to sell. A 2 ton caravan and a car to pull plus heavy fuel costs are going to be major factors.

Nice to see you back doing what you do best Karina and presumably Jules behind the old Super 8 camera ! Superb review of a very underwhelming ( especially at the price) van with poor payload and heavy noseweight. I thought my Touareg could handle most vans with a 140kg towbar limit but this Buccy would be at the limit. L shape lounge hmmm… even for 2 people seems awkward for lounging feet up watching (big) tele! Thought the veneer and plastic screw covers looked tacky too. Great honest review Karina, appreciate that 👍 we currently have a Coachman Xcel 850 but we are always on the lookout for the next level, which I'm sorry to say, is not this, I agree with the other comments, finish/quality is no where near a Coachman, we'll stick with what we've got. For the record, German designs are catching our eye, so far ahead of our 'white boxes'. Interesting to see what happens over the next couple of years, with the cost of living rising so highly, this 'leisure' industry will definitely feel the pinch. Thanks for the honest review. I own an Affinity and see the same craftsmanship flaws in the Buccaneer, sad for the price. The payload is a cheek, in the prospectus already overloaded. Mover, climate and awning attached then I may still take a toothbrush.

I don’t see an extra £34,000 of value over our £10,000 6 birth 2010 Lunar. Yes, ours does have slightly dated interior and a few marks on it. But I’m not scared to use it and allow our kids to have a good time in it. At that price it almost becomes a show piece. For us it’s all out £ per smile. We’ll spend the £34,000 difference on travelling aboard whilst using the our van for our OK holiday. 👍🏼

Air con 30kg motor movers 2 x 28 kg. In reality no payload avaiable after gas bottles cutlery and plates. Ridiculous mtplm for such a van should be nearer 2200. It is easly towed by Touareg, Range Rover, Audi Q8 or equivalents.

A great review Karina & Jules. As others have said it’s quite nice but definitely not good value at £43K. Being 8’ wide and so heavy it will need someone with caravan towing experience to pull this (plus a suitable tow car of course). It’s quite concerning that a ‘newbie’ could get one of these and be on the road without any experience!

You would be best looking at both as they are very different caravans. See which feels best for you if you are considering them. I would also look at the Laser range in comparison to the Lusso. The Lusso is quite dark inside compared to the others so it depends on what sort of interior you are looking for. 😊

43k is for a 2023 model. Whilst the gas locker isn’t wide, the accessibility is far far better than the previous models. Leather 🤮 Lacks a socket on the offside in the kitchen area. Good overview, honest too, great you’ve highlighted how the flimsyness can be improved,, just could have done with its biggest change being spoken about, the new internal composite wallboard which is a single piece so no more joint tape and being a plastic, it’s now resistant water absorption. They just need to rid the wooden baton framework and rid of the dreaded damp which many suffer with.

Inflation seems to rearing its ugly head once again, roughly 10% per year. Its also becoming common over here in many areas. The UK seems to have motor movers here in Australia we have arguments. "Go left,"" what do you mean left, whos left '"etc etc. How are the renovations going. I would imagine it is a very stressful time, I wish you well. It used to be my job when I lived in the UK. My advice is careful planning & sticking to the plan.

Morning Bernie..motor movers are very popular, especially with the size of some pitches and room to manoeuvre on site if you have a large unit. The house is getting their slowly thanks, we are a few steps forward. I now have a joiner booked in for August along with the exterior of the house being rerendered. Fingers crossed by September my carpets will be down and that will be the house fully renovated! Lets see if it all works out 😂 Have a lovely weekend 😊 Karina
