I have a beautiful Huichol piece that I bought over ten years ago in Puerto Vallarta. It is an owl standing about ten inches tall and is covered with beads of many colors. It wasn't till many years later that I realized the back looks like a picture of a cat, I was so surprised because although I love owls, my spirit animal is a cat. I am not well and I have a very smart Siamese cat who takes care of me. If he is worried something is wrong he will talk to me and touch me till I wake up. I have been sleeping for over two days because my pain had kept me awake for weeks. Jack woke me up periodically, I would feed him and his companion, get something to eat, clean their treasure box, use the bathroom then he would let me go back to sleep. He would check on me about every four hours. You say he was just hungry but I did not always feed him. He is also my official companion animal. I am happy to have my Jack and I am also so happy to have my Huichol owl/cat, it is treasured. I know the owl is one of the original gods but know nothing about the cat. Does it have any significance? 😼💜

Ah peyote! What an experience peyote is! And such beautiful beadwork. Many artists have been inspired by hallucinogens, and you can certainly see it in this kind of work. Beautiful!

just a precision, huichols and aztecs are two very different cultures. Huichols live in the desert, at the north west of Mexico, and aztecs were end empire from the south center of Mexico, made by different groups of populations who where assimilated by the aztec culture. Huichols are still here, aztecs "disappeared" (the empire) with the conquest of spanish. About peyote (peyotl) this cactus from de desert, is not a drug for 'having fun" or having and "interested trip". They are now in danger of extinction. Thanks for your interest in one of the most beautiful and richest cultures in the world: Huichols, and mexican in general.

Buenas dias Mariana, Thanks so much for clarifying those points here about the Huichols and the Aztecs. I agree with you too about peyotl and consider it a sacred plant of the highest order.. I know about the silver mining in the sacred area where it grows and the dilemma this has placed upon the Huichol culture. I admire this culture and their practices too. Just minutes before finding this comment, I was just thinking about going to live with the Huichols in San Andreas area and I also know a few Shaman personally in the Tepic Region which I am heading to soon. I take this coincidence as a good sign and that if you have anything else to share with me at this time , please do. Gracias Alfonso. My Mexican name.

I think you are being rather presumptuous about the use of Peyote here. Nobody is saying what you seem so ready to accuse people of. Who are you accusing of what here? Could you clarify your statement as to who is doing what? Your words being not backed by actually fact is the start of some really negative activity. What is your motivation for this? Are you attacking me as well? The disappearance of Peyote is a frightful concept to me. As far as I am concerned Peyote is a sacred medicine of the highest order. If you want to attack someone attack the Canadian silver miners who are there ruining the religious area for profit.

I saw a huichol art and jewelry Facebook page and came to research. He has even more stunning art than I saw earlier! Jehovah God truly has given amazing talent to humans all over the world. Now have to check if my native Arawak and Afrocaribbean ancestors (Jamaican) had some type of art like this.

If it's bee's wax and candle wax if it gets to warm does it melt and fall apart?

It would have to be very very hot for anything to happen to it. Never place in the sun during the summer. Otherwise it will last a few lifetimes if not a dozen.

Gracias, pero debes esperar que otros se inspiren y se vean influenciados por grandes obras de arte. Desafortunadamente, nadie puede tener todo el control sobre una forma de arte. Todos los que lo practican benefician a todos los que lo hacen.

I came to this video to learn how to do this artwork, but I'm somewhat afraid of being accused of cultural appropriation. If I did try it, it's not something that I would sell. I'd do it simply for the pleasure of working the piece. What's your opinion, Oscar?

The ultimate aspect of Art is to inspire people to another level. The most sincere form of flattery is imitation. All art speaks for itself. Martin inspires other Huichol artists and becomes part of the process. To be drawn to any Art form is to be summoned by a spirit greater than yourself.. Martin might have even been Huichol in his previous lifetime. One must consider that as well. The only thing that ever belongs to us is the ground we walk on temporarily at any given moment.
