I know it’s very popular here in South Texas border area. Less than $35 bucks is not bad at all even though I’d love to get a Johnie Walker 18.. $50 difference though .

That Tamper Proof Pour Socket is there for the simple reason that The House of Buchanan’s is one of the most sold Scotch Whiskies in Latin America, and is to prevent someone to refill it with a lesser quality scotch... This has been done for ages and it’s a common practice for every brand from Diageo, Chivas Brothers, Grants, etc.

Tried a 50ml taster of this on my last trip to Bevmo and was pleasantly surprised. I would put this in between Johnnie Walker Black and Gold Label Reserve in terms of flavor and finish. I think it’s a great value and I am really seeing the value and interest in blended as everyday drinkers. You get a bit of everything in a nicely balanced manner. I do get a good hit of ash on the finish and there is a nice sweetness mid palate. Very smooth and nothing really harsh about this whisky.

FYI the nozzle can be taken off, but not easily. You have to cut the red band vertically and that will come off, then there is a clear portion with 6 little locking tabs that have to be pried up - I used a wine corkscrew- then the rest of the clear plastic portion comes off to reveal a typical glass mouth that looks like it should take a cork stopper, however its an odd size that doesn't use any of the corks I had available.

1st Buchanan's I've had was the 18. Which was good. Then the 12. But the Master's Select is the best for the $$$ in my book. For what it is worth??? For me, this was a grow on you Whiskey. Sweet review gentlemen.
@ChimourTheBatFurry2 жыл бұрын
I'm having it for the first time today. I had just a sip, and was blown away by how soft and pleasant it was. I'm already a fan of peat, so I rather enjoyed the hint of it. My palate is still underdeveloped, as I'm used to drinking cheaper stuff. This would be my first twelve year old whiskey. Before this, the most expensive I had was Monkey Shoulder. Would recommend, just based on first impressions. It jumped out at me, that much.

Just picked this up and drinking it now. JW Black is much better imo but where I live a slightly higher price point. Drinking it straight, but definitely agree this would make a good mixer. Don't think I'll be buying it again. BTW at this price point, although a single malt, Old Pulteney 12 all day long.
@vintageswiss90962 жыл бұрын
Just picked this up on sale for $24 and I’m about to buy another for the shelf just for the price so that company can have a decent drink when they come over.
I really love this whisky. The more I nose and taste the more different flavors I detect. Smooth, no hangovers. Excellent whisky especially for the relatively modest price. Less then JW Black and I prefer it over JW or Dewars
@jb-sm1kx2 жыл бұрын
just bought a bottle and tasting it with you. ok, it's good...I like the smoke, the buzz is clean, and the price is right. Quality Scotch 8.5 stars out of 10 the only draw back is the bottle has a stopper that makes it hard to pour into the glass. two thumbs up!!

Buchanan’s huh! Fun review guys... and I won’t take that fishing. I’ll just have to bring a Steele Reserve or two. I haven’t tried Buchanan’s yet because I wanted to avoid most blended whiskies since we are generally left in the dark on what is in it. However, I’ve been messing with blends lately and expect to continue to be surprised. Thanks for sharing guys!

I am right there with you on MOST blends. Just don't avoid any of the Compass Box blends and you'll be golden. John Glaser is a wizard!
@AmericanScotchDoctor4 жыл бұрын
Ha. Ya. I haven’t tried any of the compass box yet either... because the blend thing. I’ve heard good things though. Elements of Islay has a neat blend called PEAT, which is a blend of whiskies from Islay. It was very young, but interesting enough. Kind of tasted like Wee beastie.
@BrianKirby_The1andOnly4 жыл бұрын
@@AmericanScotchDoctor If you are a peat fan, Compass Box's Peat Monster is one you should be on the lookout for (especially the cask strength). All of their stuff stands toe to toe with single malts, and you cannot beat the price point for the quality and complexity. Now I am off to look up "Elements of Islay" ✌️

I bought a 375 ml bottle of this blended scotch last week. Tried it for the first time on Wednesday and I was getting quite a bit of peat on the nose and in the flavor, the last note while swallowing was definitely very noticeable peat. On Friday I had a little of this Buchanan Deluxe 12 after Glenlivet 12 and the peat in Buchanan felt even stronger following the Glenlivet. The weird thing is that today, on Sunday, the peat is almost gone. I can barely smell it on the nose and I don’t taste it at all any more. I had the bottle still about 4/5 full this morning. Not sure if some oxidation changed the flavor profile or if my palate has evolved in such a short period of time.
@justragequit70782 жыл бұрын
I know this is a late reply but what you ate before and what time during they day you drink can have a huge affect on your palate. I've noticed that sweets really make peat stand out for me.
@jerrycoggin94342 жыл бұрын
Really strange how that works isn't it. I don't think the whisky changed at all. It has to do with your palate, the last thing you had in your mouth and what aromas you may have been around and the complexity of the dram. Same thing happens to me.
@samuelrodriguez67072 жыл бұрын
If you’ve eaten any spicy or acidic foods, it’s going to really screw up low-malt whiskies (like blends). Some it can make them sour, some can accentuate the alcohol, and some get muted.
@farklestaxbaum4945 Жыл бұрын
Picked this up on sale and Its pretty good. I still prefer the Dewars 12 for a blend but this is very close. I think its fine neat, water softens it up too much. Buchanan's would be a great recommendation for someone new to Scotch imo. The dang pour spout is a pain in the ass though

Remember trying this at the very beginning when I had no tolerance for peat. Tasted like it was dispensed from a dirty ash tray. Curious what it would taste like now ?

Fun review, guys. I find it hard to judge cheaper whiskies when I already know the price. Somehow that low price seems to have an impact on my judgement in the same, but opposite, way that high-priced whiskies seem to spike the anticipation/expectation levels.

Someone beat me to it but because Johnnie Walker Green and Buchanan's are very popular in the Caribbean they put those stoppers in there for the reasons mentioned already, I think they even do the same with... Bombay Sapphire? Any others?

My understanding is that the bottle is capped that way to prevent refilling, which might be a concern in the Latin American market.

Hello and Greetings! I want to discuss something that is practical and necessary. What if I asked you and your team to invent the next generation of truly advanced wines, beers, and liquors? What would you say after giving it some really serious contemplation? These are the features that you could go after --- utilizing science, experimentation, teamwork, dialogue, and patience: 1. No liver damage. 2. No fatty liver. You can learn about how fat gets stored and removed from the liver by watching Dr. Eric Berg's KZbin videos on this topic. 3. No bloating or flatulence or burping. That means a change in carbonation or the elimination of carbonation, and possibly other factors I currently have no knowledge on. 4. No sugar or carbohydrates (sugars, starches, and fibers). 5. No disruption in the human microbiome in terms of creating an imbalance in bacteria or fungi. Alcohol appears to be a strong contributor to oral thrush (oral candidiasis), seborrheic dermatitis, and other versions of excess in malevolent fungi. There are scientific papers on this topic, and non-scientific literature that could point you in the right direction. 6. Add extra packaging protection to prevent "dirty handling" by merchants and transportation mediums. 7. Nuanced flavors never before discovered or released to the public. 8. International access/distribution. 9. You don't have to "guarantee" these items to customers or anyone else. These are achievable goals that may gradually achieve fruition over weeks, months, years, and yes - even decades. 10. Some forms of alcohol consumption, especially among alcoholics, can deplete very specific vitamins and minerals, including salt, magnesium, and potassium. Alcohol, just like so-called "energy shots," can almost certainly be fortified with vitamins and minerals to off-set this very vital imbalance. The vitamins that are probably most likely to be needed are C, the entire B series of vitamins, and D. 11. No depletion of Hydrochloric Acid in the stomach. 12. Invite consumers to share their knowledge. Especially alcoholics. Safeguard their privacy while treating them with dignity and respect - with the hope that they will reciprocate equally. Cheers!

Last year my wife bought me the Johnnie Walker gift set with 200m bottles of Black, Gold, Platinum, and Blue,.... and I put the Buchanan's against all of them along with Chivas 12 and 18, and I think the Buck's (what I call it) beat them all,.. including the Blue. Being in gulf coast Texas I find it goes better with the warm humid weather than most Scotch whiskies,... which makes sense considering it is the best selling Scotch throughout most of Latin-America.
@StillLivinginthewoods4 жыл бұрын
They put the horrible pour spout on there because bars and hotels in Latin-America are notorious for refilling name brand bottles with locally distilled hooch, and the spout is supposed to make it more difficult..... you have to shake it up and down to get it to come out better.

Popular strip club drink in Tijuana, Mexico. Somehow the druglords made this their brand of choice. So much, in fact, ordering ‘‘Boocanah’ means you’re there to drop money for full service. I psychologically, have love/hate memories when I drink this. Taste wise, not a fan of the synthetic long finish. Cheers!
