Easiest way to clean the brass, if you keep up with it, is a brass instrument cleaning cloth. 2 sided. One impregnated with a cleanser, one side for buffing. Easy. If you have to use Brasso, use the cotton batting they make, impregnated with a cleaner. So much easier.

Buck leather sheaths are known to cause the green tarnish. I can leave one sitting in a draw for years without this happening. But if I put it in its leather sheath, it will oxidize and turn green in just weeks.

I collect all kinds of Buck Knives. I have 8 Buck 110s and the majority on the #100 series knives. I favor the Brass and Cocobolo Handles knives for kitchen prep only. Primarily, I get the Ebay derelicts that were abused or neglected and restore them. Some kitchen knives are from Buck's Factory store. I use several colors of Buffing Machine compounds and a ton of Q tips, blue latex gloves on the really bad ones. For Non Food knives I use a little synthetic grease or sewing machine oil as a finishing touch. I have used Meguires Ultimate Compound, Mothers and Brasso to brighten the brass. It is clear to me that once the heavier junk is removed the Brasso works best, Meguires second place and then the Ultimate compound. Most of the time I do not need the buffing machine or Dremel if the project knives are not too bad. 80% tp 90% Once they are gorgeous, I remove the protective painters tape on the blade and hand sharpen on a Whetstone. When the world has broken your heart for the hundredth time, a newly polished Buck Knife will make you smile. Enjoy.

They look like jewels when they are done, don't they....😊 btw, you can use Old English wood conditioner & cleaner for the ebony & other wood handles...you get very nice results...

Good stuff, that Brasso. Now do a video on keeping the Buck sheaths black and shiny, especially when EDCing them!

My EDC is the Buck 110 Slim. I imagine any leather treatment will work on them. So glad that Buck offers replacement sheaths if they get too bad.

Don't be afraid to wash it in the sink with dish soap and a sponge, just like your butter knives. Especially if you used it for fish or food prep.

As far as I know the stuff they use to tan the leather is what is causing that green gunk. Dont store your knives in the sheaths.

It cleans off with Brasso instantly so the leather sheath protects the knife and the Buck 110 is too heavy for a pocket and has no pocket clip.

Its possible that is correct but i doubt it. More likely a natural oxidation that always could occur in storage, way i clean and oil my knifes regularly not just the 1 im favoring at the time.

Condition your sheath interior with neatsfoot oil, rub it into the leather, wipe off excess and allow to dry overnight night before using. If it's your first application, repeat the process again in a week or so, then try to do it 1 time a year after that. The oil protects and keeps leather soft, will rejuvenate dry and worn leather, and since it's an oil, it will help protect the brass and repell water if you're working in the rain.

@@theblink2404 It's not just possible, it's a known thing. I've been collecting and storing knives for 40 years. Even after a decade, my Buck knives in a wooden draw or nylon sheath don't turn green. I live in a really dry climate. Ones stored in the leather sheath will turn green within a month of being new. I have a 22 year old Buck 110 that I use regularly and always just leave it in a drawer. I left it in the sheath for 8 days just recently and it turned green for the first time.

I use less and I use one finger with cloth. I tape the handles so as not to inpregnate the wood fibers with a slurry of brasso and brass - you wil NEVER get this out if you do.

@@bushcraftdevotions5851 I’m so lazy I haven’t ever made a video, so you aren’t as lazy as I am. I did order Brasso on Amazon and it will be here tomorrow, thanks for motivating me. It made me dig into my knife drawer and I found 3 Buck 110s to polish. Didn’t even know I had that many. I dates to the 70s, one in 91 and one on 20109. The older one has a broken tip so I think I need to send it to Buck for a new blade.
