Buck Creek - Iowa Driftless Trout Fishing (Flyfishing the MOST SCENIC Trout Stream in Iowa)

Come along as I fish what I believe to be the most scenic of all of the Iowa Driftless region trout streams, Buck Creek. The summer foliage and tall weeds don't allow the true beauty of this stream to shine like it would in the late fall to spring. I will definitely have to return to film again when the conditions improve to showcase the truly spectacular Buck Creek.
This stream is stocked with catchable size rainbow trout and apparently has some wild reproducing brown trout in it as well. Last winter I caught a 4 inch rainbow in this stream that is a bit of a mystery since I don't believe they ever stock them in here as fingerlings.
If you're looking for a nice walk along a partially grazed meadow with a beautiful stream flowing through and a chance to catch a trout while you're at it, this may just be the place for you.
This section of Buck Creek in Iowa is private land but allows public fishing. As always, take out what you bring in and enjoy!

I grew up here, less than 3 miles from this stream and the farm. We used to spend a lot of time out here! We have had family members chased into the creek by the cows when they have babys! I recognized the rock wall in the thumb nail. It was great to show our kids the video! Thanks

I've fished further north at the park, but that slow moving water doesn't interest me much. I prefer the area around the bluffs where I can fish boulders for active feeding fish.

it is a pretty stream but it's truly not the most scenic by far I've fished Iowa trout streams for over 40 years and believe me that many others that are more amazing , Stocked streams as stated are so over fished by so many but there are a few streams around for the fly fisherman and catch release fishermen that are far more amazing

Can you suggest a guide for Buck Creek or Paint Creek?

I'm not familiar with any guides in the area. Buck creek is a pretty small stretch and is no problem to find fish DIY. Paint creek is much larger and you could benefit from extra help.

if you've fished for years in Iowa you don't need a guide get map of the streams and pick your chooses most are all stocked and if you'd go to one of the 3 hatcheries they would have the maps

Buck creek has been destroyed by loggers, farmers and ranchers just like the rest of the streams in Iowa.
