Johnny, I love watching you guys videos. I was born and raised Clearfield County. Left when I joined the Army. Been back a few times to hunt with my dad before he died in 2010. I live in Georgia now and hunt when I'm not working K9s in Iraq.. Keep the videos coming. Love them. They bring back great memories.

My favorite part of these videos is John's strict antler restriction in an attempt to shoot monsters (which he does) And then uncle Ron's complete lack of regard and shoots anything legal hahaha #LoveIt

Where I live in Ny it would take 3-4 seasons of hard hunting to see that many bucks . People around here shoot spikes and small rack bucks all the time . NY needs antler restrictions. This is why this past season I hunted Pa for 2 days and got a nice 8 point . I will be finding more areas in Pa to hunt . Mostly eastern Pa . Pike county

Awesome video man!! I'm from mercer county pa but i'm in the clarion area all the time cause that is where my wife is from. One day id like to have a piece of property like this to hunt. The only places I have to hunt are public property here in mercer county and the deer are few and far between believe me on this ive been hunting public land for 12 years. Even though you didn't get a deer this would still be a successful hunt as far as i'm concerned! Good luck this rifle season!!

awesome video guys! I've seen some great Mature deer but lately everything on my camera went nocturnal. the last 2 weekends all I saw were small bucks and 0 doe. First day of archery I almost got to shoot a nice 8 but he needed to take 2 steps but he ran off. Everything's been dead lately though. we need more people in the woods rifle season to get the deer moving. BTW I'm in Northeastern PA

Qdm goes a long way. I wish I had neighbors like you. It's a shame when people shoot deer that aren't at full potential wether it be doe or buck. I would take a 200 lb 4 pointer over a 160 lb 8 pointer any day. The horns are a bonus.

Nice footage, John. I always enjoy your videos. I think after following you for all these years.....I feel like I have a pretty good feel for your property. You're pretty good example for guys to follow with your buck logic. I live in SE PA and I know it's common for PA hunters to want to fill that tag with a small buck, but if you have the property and you have some control of the property....it makes great sense to pass those little guys up. I always forget to ask you if that food plot that you put in years ago - do you rotate what you put in it..or do you keep it the same all the time. If you're ever in SE PA....hit me up. I'd love to talk deer hunting with you, while dining on some backstraps. Looking forward to your buck season video(s).
@Leatherwoodoutdoors29 жыл бұрын
+Deer Hunter Thanks! Well, I have little control over the property. Since it isnt mine but the families. I do try to set an example for all and although my logic has not produced me a buck, it has though, produced nice buck for family and neighbors. its this kind of generosity, that I believe, that needs to be present in the deer hunter of today. As with the foodplot. I planted it i believe in 2009 with Wildlife Perfect Grazing mix. I redid the plot in 2013 I think, and I messed it up bad. I actually bought the wrong seed. Well, i had a hard time getting the clover to come back and as you can see in the videos this year there is more grass than anything else and deer dont eat grass unless they are in a tough situation. So, it definitely needs redone next year if I can find time. I almost lost it completely this year. I neglected the plot and didnt have time to keep it mowed. weeds started taking over and I thought I was going to loose all my clover ( what I had left). I mowed it and blew as much clippings into the sides of the plot ( you can see in the foodplot hunting videos) just so the cut grass wouldnt kill what was underneath it. The plot is on its last leg yet produced more kills this year than in any other year. I may try to do a video on it next season If I can find the time.

Well......it sounds like you're in the same boat as a lot of other guys who do plots. Gung-ho going in and strapped for time to keep it balanced and from getting overgrown. I always appreciated your take on deer hunting....bucks in particular and while I think I think you're being a bit modest.....anyone watching your videos can see how stoked you are getting other people deer.....even making your shaky cousin pass up a pretty nice buck! I think it's cool that you set a high bar for yourself in the bucks you're willing to take. I know it's been a while since you killed a buck, but it's pretty cool to let these lesser bucks pass.....ones that most people would drool over (especially in PA), but I really admire that about you and that's what keeps me dialed in to your channel more than most. The other guys' videos are okay and I love all the deer drive videos too, but I enjoy your channel. I'm a little older than you, but I think we're a lot alike. Keep doing what you're doing. Looking forward to more videos and thanks for the note. Rich

So tell me how old a buck must be to pass on his blood line? Old or young DNA is there... I saw two distinct horn patterns on your land... Both seem to have rt side slow growth or no growth... I say you have too much competition... Hold a hunt to kill off all those under 3yrs with anyone who wants a deer... Then those does will have few to choose from... Once mature, your bucks look great.

to have a healthy Hurd u got manage u bucks as well as your does. so u need to kill off some of the smaller rack size buck that r of age. thats where ull get ur issues.
@Leatherwoodoutdoors29 жыл бұрын
+Jesse weaver Well, you have to keep in mind that 50% of the genetics are from the doe. You can have all the giant buck in the world and if you have horrible genes coming from the doe, you wont have much. Most small bucks, spikes clear to 10 points can be first year rack deer. But just because it starts out a spike doesnt mean it wont get as big as the 10 point in its 4 year of antler. Thats how genetics work.
@jesseweaver_fuyt9 жыл бұрын
***** If you keep the crappy genes out with shooting off some of the thin horned bucks others will slowly replace it. But in the end it all takes time. And time is hard for most hunters. They see its 3 on one side and kill it. Or kill button bucks. See I live in Lancaster County. And even in DMA1 people r killing everything on the state game lands.
@rjosephinterrante6219 жыл бұрын
+Jesse weaver I live in Lancaster county too. Many hunters kill anything that is legal. This is short sighted.
@jesseweaver_fuyt9 жыл бұрын
R Joseph Interrante I believe it ain't genetics I have talked to a deer sciancetist from Georgia and he came from Tioga county pa. He said it's health. And it's more winter spring and Summer. So its a four season food plot we need to plant 4 food plots. He said thats how ull grow big horned and big body deer but it will take 15+ years. So u can make bad geines good geines. So when I get my land out in the laral higths I will make 12 food plots. Nut trees grasses. Growing deer is like growing beefe steers with out controlling there breeding.
