At about 16.40 you say that high frequency = high efficiency in the inductor. But in the regulator, high frequency = low efficiency due to FET switching and driving loss. Would it not be better practice to pick a low switching frequency that meets your output ripple requirement, then spec an inductor for the chosen switching frequency to minimise the inductor losses (high Q factor)? Seems like the benefits of high frequency are smaller components and lower output ripple, while negatives are less efficient, run hotter and more potential for EMI? I'm open to correction on all this..

Yep.. I misspoke, and KZbin doesn't all me to add an annotation to correct it. We were talking about this in discord the other day. Here's a great image that shows how changing what effects what cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/797853564361244705/800223837496410212/DC-DC_Buck_Converter_Design_fig02.png (You're the first to point it out in a comment, so enjoy the pin 😂)

Continue to make these videos, you are going to record a complete design and layout course. I am enrolled! Excellent, as always.

Great video. It's fun to be a critic though. You could have moved the switching inductor to the left directly against the regulator chip if you rotated the cap 90 degrees and hooked the top input to the inductor pad. This shortens the loop through the switching inductor by more than the distance it is moved to the left because the path to ground is also shortened, and also reduces the board area. Yes, yes, I'm quibbling...

That was really interesting, since I'm planing to layout a buck switching PSU on my next project. Thank you for making that video

Good review. I am very interested in a video about switching mains power with a relay. How the tracks run, the width and the distance from each other, etc.

Interesting as always, thank you. For the future requests will put this as waiting in line - low noise circuit with buck converter, sensitive ADC and power hungry MCU like ESP series, noise isolation on PCB in general.

According to the data sheet, the LMR33630BDDA has a switching speed of 1,4 MHz. There's an A-version @ 400 kHz, and a C-version @ 2,1 MHz. I have used this excact part in 2 or 3 designs. I used Webench and tried to follow that and the data sheet as close as possible. Maybe You could have an interest in seeing my take on it? I could send you the files. Kicad. Need to strip away som stuff, I think. Company logo etc.

Hi - Two things, First - not impressed with the multiple ads in the middle of the vid. I am listening to your Canadian droll 😜 and then I'm interrupted by shit. I am beginning to unsubscribe to channels which force ads down my throat - I really like your channel and have tried to contribute a little to help boost the YT algorithm but my goodwill only stretches so far!!! By all means have a couple of revenue ads at the beginning but please stop there, it's jarring and buggers up the flow of the narrative when you are explaining something. (EEVBlog, uses this system if its good enough for him .....) Secondly, How would the design change if you used a 4 layer board. Open Source forum software www.phpbb.com/ Direct Web traffic to YOUR website so it bumps up Search Engine ratings. I am VERY interested in power supply filtering and supplying MCU's etc with automotive and mains based sources. I would love to know techniques and any 'rules of thumb' for how to chose/ use inductors and ferrites in real world applications.
