I have five copies of the movie, several tshirts, identification badges, a coffee mug, pins, a poster and various Buckaroo Banzai memorabilia. To this day as I turn 60 (I saw this at 21) it takes me back to a simpler time before so much technology. I am hoping to go to an upcoming Comic-con and get a photo with Peter Weller (Buckaroo Banzai). My first action hero before there was even a term for men of action. This movie is still after 39 years my favorite film of all time. It was no surprise that this reached cult status. No matter where you go there you are. This is an update, I have a genuine spot on replica of the famed Oscillation Overthruster. In my opinion the holy grail of prop replicas.

I think its funny how this feature supposedly exposes secrets and clarifies the 8th Dimension plot when, in fact, it only serves to maintain the obfuscation. Which is absolutely intentional. 😉

9:23 this part in the movie really stood out to me. They were able to preserve his natural and distinct face shape and the way his eyes tilted down at the outer corners. Amazing makeup.

I worked a a customer service job when and had this frequent visitor that looked exactly like Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons. First time I ever asked him for a movie to watch he recommended Buckaroo Bonzai. It’s now one of my favourite movies of all time and I’ll never forget the exact moment we talked about it. Good times! I wish there was a sequel too.

I barely remember the commercials for the film, it's release came and went. It looked, interesting. Watched it when it premiered on HBO. It wasn't immediately funny, but it was totally confident in the story it was telling. And it was a compelling story. I didn't want to look away. And when it ended I immediately wanted to watch it again! I knew the film had so much detail in it that it required multiple viewings. Watched it so many times that almost every line became quotable! _"I'm sure that,_ *_IN THE MISERABLE ANNALS OF THE EARTH.."_*

I have no less than 5 copies of the movie on DVD, two tshirts, a movie poster, a fridge magnet, several cosplay identification badges, quite a few pins, a copy of the Marvel comic book adaptation and the topper is a YoYodyne Propulsion Systems coffee mug. To this day the movie remains my favorite of all time. I might attend a Comic-con soon and get a pic with Buckaroo Banzai (Peter Weller). Buckaroo Banzai was my first real action hero even before they were called that. Peter Weller in an interview once said Buckaroo isn't a superhero and is made better by the people he surrounds himself with. Those hard rockin' Hong Kong Cavaliers, Buckaroos most trusted inner circle. Turning 60 this year reminds me that next year the movie celebrates its fortieth anniversary. I even have my eye on an Oscillation Overthruster. Update: I actually now have a screen accurate Oscillation Overthruster

when i was 12 i saw the film for the 1st time and i was hooked on the Universe... all the characters are awesome and the story was just incredible.... im 46 now and if anything i appreciate the film and the story it tells even more than i did as a Kid.... it was of its time and that isnt a bad thing at all!

Every decade has brought us a phenomenon that could only have emerged in that decade. In the '50s we got movies about bug-eyed-monsters from outer space. In the '60s we got Bond and all the other knock-off spy thrillers/comedies, like "Our Man Flint" etc. In the '70s we got Blaxploitation movies, and the Funk/Disco scene. And in the '80s we got "BUCKAROO BANZAI" -- the quintessential '80s movie, with its synthesizer score and the New Wave styles evinced by Buckaroo, Perfect Tommy, etc. It's too bad that you needed an above-average I.Q. to 'get' what it was all about, with merely average movie-goers tending to sidetrack it. It certainly deserved more success than it garnered, and -- alas! -- we never got to see the promised sequel. In that respect, BB was to '80s SF cinema what "ZARDOZ" was to '70s SF cinema -- too high-brow to be a commercial success.

It feels like someone finally made a movie based on a long running and beloved comic book series. Or maybe this is a movie based on it. It feels like they mashed up several episodes of a mini series. This is where they got the idea for League of extraordinary gentleman. Or it's like they got the favorite characters from some small indy publisher like Eclipse comics and made their own quirky justice league out of them.

I first saw it on VHS when I was a teenager, and to this day, I still think the first 15 minutes are certainly the coolest and most mind blowing and entertaining first 15 minutes that one human can ever dream of !!!!! :) I watch it once every year in Blu Ray (in english even if I'm french and there is a cool french edition with bonus and stuff) :) I tend to think this film is even more relevant these days especially since the 2017 NY Times article about secret UFO Pentagon program, and real people that for me are as cool and fascinating as characters from a movie : Lue Elizondo, David Fravor, Chris Mellon, Alex Dietrich, Eric Davis, David Grusch, Karl Nell, Garry Nolan !!! 😉😄😎👽😉😉😉

With all the AI and deepfake available, especially to Hollywood they need to make the sequel and deepfake the actors to their age in 1985. Im not usually in favor of that stuff but in this case GO FOR IT! Pay the actors the rate they would have gotten in the day adjusted for inflation- make it happen!
