How rare is on KZbin for a fella to get something free to test out and he actually uses it for a year before giving an opinion? I actually remember the mail room episode when he received this belt and to me seeing the review now speaks volumes for the guys credibility

I just want to say that this channel has been one of the greatest comforts on KZbin I’ve found, over the last four or five years. It’s like the next best thing to having to have been able to know either of my grandfathers. They were both great men, but my parents were each the last or next to last of their children, and they were both great grandparents by the time I came around. I met them as a kid, but never really got to know them. And, it means a lot to have content like this available to me while making my way through working a trade, and figuring out how to be better man. I’m thankful for you, Scott Wadsworth.

A good tip at the end of the day or on lunch if your feet are hurting is to elevate them for around 15-20 minutes about the level of your shoulders if they were inclined so that fluid that made the swell can drain and you'll feel the difference. Back pain often occurs because the lumbar area/small of the back has been held in torsion to long it's why laying in a hammock or on the floor begins hurting since its natural curve was being forced flat. Though it might look silly 4-5minutes of stretching before beginning to work or during a break can almost eliminate it during an especially long day and it's why athletes just don't start out cold before a workout/run because it helps prevent injuries. You may appear to be a prima ballerina on break but that flash of pain after sitting or getting back to work will feel like you never stopped because the muscles that were at rest need a few minutes to get circulation/loosening up so before called on again.
@717UT4 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right. It's long overdue that the construction industry needs to take things like this seriously for the welfare of their workers. But when the dollar rules the time, people end up mattering less.

I also put a fresh pair of powdered socks and insoles [10 in rotation Mon-Friday] in a zip lock baggie. At lunch I sit with my feet up and eat lunch while my feet enjoy the breeze. Coming back from break with fresh dry feet is like nothing else. My ex saw me prepping 20 pair of socks, she called me a psycho, but she wasn't paying any bills. All that weight was on my shoulders, which transferred directly to my feet.

This man is creating a legacy to leave for mankind. Wow, a company and their product could not get a more thoughtful, credible, and thorough evaluation and endorsement. I went to a 3 1/2" wide belt 16-17 years ago and never looked back . It wasn't a buckaroo, but all nylon. It doesn't hurt at all. When I switch to my drywall tools, it has a 2" belt and I know the difference. I'm sure that only the weight difference (not much weight to a knife, a circle cutter, a measuring tape, and a surform pocket plane on one side, an ax on the back, and a handful of nails and a pocket fulll of screws on the other side) saves me from a sore back. I have since switched out my belt for my electrical tools and pouches to the same 3 1/2" nylon belt as well as for my logging pouches and tools. I don't use a tool belt when I am plumbing, welding, or doing mechanical work. Scott, I am continually amazed at how parallel our lives have gone and I have often questioned my course as I walked it. You were in a world that was 20 years ahead of techniques than in Nova Scotia at the same time. I've always been a little ahead of the curve, using Larry Haun's methods of production framing when all around me everyone was stick framing and working HARD! I kept up just by being more efficient. I was looked at kind of strange, but now I see that I was actually okay. Thanks for all you do and teach. I've learned some from you, mostly blacksmithing stuff because I have only just begun that and it is another skill/trade in an already very full life of hobbies. Keep up the good work.

There is a completely valid reason why your back is not hurting as much since wearing this toolbelt: it is functioning like an SI joint stability belt. SI belts apply pressure to the circumference of your pelvis, helping to stabilize the pelvis and allow you lumbar spine to function more effectively. Often low back pain gets confused with SI joint dysfunction. And even if you do have pain on your actual lower spine it is usually accompanied with dysfunction in your SI joint. This type of dysfunction is often caused by bending forward-something that you and people in your profession-do a great deal. So yes, you are are right. You are not imagining things!

Bought the oxcidental beltless suspenders last year and haven't looked back. I always rocked a straight leather belt similar to the Craftsman, but after having my pelvis broken into pieces and put back together again I've developed lower back problems. Unfortunately I'm only 33 and plan on building homes for many more years. The beltless system is amazing. The weights evenly distributed acrouss my shoulders now so no more sore back. Best part about them is as my gut gets bigger I no longer have to force it over my toolbelt when I bend over or crouch down. When I'm in those positions the pouches hang off to my side out of my way. When I go to climb into the roof I don't drop a pile of fasteners cause the pouches have more swing and stay down where they used to flip up on me. Not trying to throw shade on buckaroo just my 2 cents.

When I was 13 I started complaining about hip pain and was told its just growing pains, but it only ever got worse, more clicking and popping that wouldn't end. fast forward to 17 years old and I'm having an mri done. Turns out the cartilage holding my hips together it completely shredded and j need hip surgeryon both hips. the surgery didn't work and my hips tore again. I had bone spurs as a growth defect. My body is constantly sending calcium to my joints causing spurs all over my body, I also have early on set arthritis and a long long long list of other issues I won't get in to. I got out of doing jobs that made everything worse and into something thats not as hard on me. I wish I had done it sooner as now I have some irreversible damage and also looking at more surgeries soon. Take care of yourselves out there, no matter what the dudes on the crew say about you. Switched to a wide padded tool belt when there was a sale on a full kit that I though I would like. I felt the benefits of being able to load a bit more for carry and not feel as sore afterwards. Later on, dropped some money on Toughbuilt pouches because I though they'd be handy. I loved them and upgraded to their padded belt. The ability to use my belt as a toolbox can't be understated! I'll carry my gear to the work site, hands free usually, and un-clip the extra pouches to put them on the floor. As I'm working, I'll switch them out as needed or keep them close enough to grab the tool I need. This has been a game changer. A proper padded belt makes this setup comfortable and it stays on until the work day is done. Money well invested.

@@pprich1 no problem! Also, taking them off to squeeze through tight places is nice. When I have a cut station set up, I'll attach a pouch clip to a nearby stud (they have holes for screws) and lighten my load, but have my measuring tools at arm's reach. Passing a task partner one of my extra clips for their belt, so I can pass them my driver with the holster (so they don't drop it). Every time I solve a problem with these pouches, I appreciate them for a few seconds. I've been using them for a year and a half and I still have those moments. That said, people will still poke fun at you for having them. *Shrug*

Well that is a review I have faith in. I like the idea of that belt, it's like a tuned up high climbing belt. I have used good, simple leather nail bags for a long time. I think the once well known company that made mine has been eaten up and dosn't exist any more. I also use suspenders on my leather belt for two reasons. They take a lot of the weight off my pelvis. A full load of nails frameing all day pinched a nerve in my leg and the clips keep my nail nail bags in place but allow me to move them a bit as needed. I cleaned and oiled them twice a year. In the fall before the winter rains and in the spring before the dry. I also emptied them and hosed them out and let them dry over the weekend as needed. They will last almost forever. Only problem I have with them is they are old enough that they don't have a place for the speed square. If I needed to replace them I would be looking at Occidental Leather bags.

I have always used four fixed pocket (small pocket in front of large pocket) belts, really for nails and screws ,not tools really. and a hammer loop(got to be a swinging loop) over the years I’ve had various ancillary pouches sheaths etc on my belts but taken them off again, the only one that goes on again when I need it is my plumbline pocket. One point I would like to make to all new carpenters is that a full belt is NOT suitable for second fix or partially decorated work, if you want to hear howling and whining you just try it ! those scratches and marks on new plaster and paint are not appreciated, tote boxes are better for that.

Great belt I got one early this year as an old chippie now in Australia I completely agree with your assessment of the buckroo belt system . Thanks for the video ✌️🇭🇲

You can't go to a site here in Aus without seeing a buckaroo belt, very popular and for great reason.

Well your review was well worth the belt they sent you. I definitely want one, since the rivets on my kingchrome belt almost make me bleed. But my size is already out of stock. I'll sure get one soon, gotta love anything that makes earning a buck less unpleasant and less damaging in the long run.

They are a local company where i live in wollongong NSW Australia. Every trades person has a buckaroo belt and pouch set up. I use one for my form work belt and another for my steel fixing belt. Been running it for 3 years solid and yet to see any wear and tear. And the inner belts can be sold separately. If ever needed so. you don't have to pay for the whole belt twice

In case Buckaroo's watching, I purchased their belt based on your review and I almost love it. It's a great belt, certainly comfortable, not perfect (what "love" in a consumer context means). A belt, in addition to the outer belt, equipped with an inner belt to hold up pants would be nice. (Product designers, I throw down the gauntlet!)

Kind of reminds me of when we were changing load bearing equipment in the Army. I started out with the old ALICE gear (Vietnam era) and we all talked trash about the new MOLLE (pronounced "Molly") gear when they began issuing it. We swore it would be cumbersom and too flimsy to hold up to the day-to-day operations of combat arms training and warfare. It was ugly too. Boy were we completely wrong. Glad you were more receptive to trying new things than we were.

I still have my old ALICE gear because they didn't want it back at CIF when I was out-processing. I could have sold it at one of the surplus stores around Ft Stewart, but I held onto it and still have it almost 30 years later.

I have a Kuny with suspenders. Yeah, it's all I can afford. But the design, like this Buckaroo, is so ergonomic. The wide belt is great and provides so much support. Way better than a simple belt and bags that I had before. I'm getting older too, so, every bit helps. Nice review. Thoughtful.

I am same age as you 61. Come along in this career late 50. I am a custom cabinet maker, & Tables (big tables). Wore several bags (I am firm believer in having my tools handy not scattered) and finally ended up with what you hv in ur hand! Buckaroo belt (back pro) suspenders and their bags! Lee get their bags and suspenders! You will enjoy them! (That’s a word not closely thought of to us). Ur healthy, you got years to go ! Age is well just more mature :) Oh by the way I got my contractor licenses at 59? Don’t fool yourself & do not, do not retire from working for a wage! I work for myself and a little slower. Just take work you can do comfortably and not over 10’ I get hurt now & then but hey? Take an office job of that worried you! You are thee Man Lee go get’em!

Forget bags, I switched to Ben Davis carpenter overalls, there's a full apron that doesn't sag, every utility pocket imaginable including huge reinforced thigh pockets that I keep my screws in, two Hammer loops that I use for a hammer and rubber mallet, there's a double knee you can slip knee pads into. I've tried everything and nothing else can come close to the efficiency and amount of storage the overalls give me.

Timely video! I've been wanting to get a new belt for my Occidental bags for a while now, as the hole I use on it is getting a bit stretched out; I think I'll be trying a Buckaroo belt.

I've been wearing Occidental leathers since 2005. Same set, when I got a new set of bags almost every year before them. I've said I won't be doing this job next year for the last 10 years. I'm ordering a set of these based on your amazing review, just in case I'm still swinging a hammer in 2040.

Im an Australian and I have a heaps of Made in USA tools. I always know that when I buy a tools with the yankie flag on it I am getting quality. The same with Australia. I know when I buy something with the Aussie flag I am getting the Real McCoy. A bit more expensive, but heart and soul went into the product and it will last you a lifetime.

These Buckaroo belts go hard. For what it's worth, over here in Western Australia, pretty much everyone who does formwork carpentry or steelfixing in the mines (so mine construction) uses them. Doing 12 hours in the desert isn't pleasant, but they go hard. They also obviously have a tonne of pouches to choose from. They have the usual carpentry pouches and hammer loop pouches, but they've also pouches (or frogs) for podger ratchets/steel erection wrenches/spud wrenches, they have pouches for phones, for tape measures, holders for Knipex nips etc. The leather is also extremely thick and heavy duty, at least thicker than anything else I've seen in WA stores. I'd love it if they sold US ironworker type spud holders, but that's not how we do it in WA so there's no market for it, understandably. But that would be good for my trade.

Just picked this belt up along with some buckaroo nail bags. Had the nylon version of the occidental bags EC uses for about just over a year but have been torn up slipping between rebar (highrise formwork). Gonna givr this a test run and make my own verdict.
