I love those rail buggies. They still put on a good show. They got all this off road hill climbing started in the sixties and seventies. It's about being light weight and weight distribution. Also a good driver. Thanks for sharing.

Looks like it's a lot hill climbing for the camera man. Thanks for sharing the good times. Everyone wants to beat the hill but you have to hit it just right to do what most never will. It's fun as long as no one gets hurt.

Growing up in the mid-west I always wondered why woods buggies were called sand rails hahaha... now that I’ve lived all over I can honestly say they are more popular in the woods these days than the dunes.

The buggy at 14:10 reminds me of my first rail buggy at age 10 Big Red built from a Murray Riding lawnmower 20.5 Briggs Stratton turbo cooled pulley swaped my dad lived in southern Tennessee with 30+ aches all woods mountains creeks and cave my dad built each of us our own buggys and side by side utvs way before before they had Side by Sides at age 9 / 10 i was climbing mountains with my buggy and three wheeler that grown men wouldn't dear to climb my dad started us riding at age 4 ive been riding every since 30 years and still riding i took my son for his first ride at 16 months he's 2 now and loves riding

Are any of these comparable to a 1600 dual port vw motor I'm looking at getting one just seeing if it would be capable of medium offloading on trails

All of those are over a 1600 most I doubt anything less than a 1915. I would almost bet most are 2275 or more. I have had plenty of fun on a 1600. You break a lot less parts. You can’t play on the big hills like these but you can still do trail riding and have a good time. I have a 2387 now and at times had more fun with my 1600.

Why are there 4WD in a mostly 2WD race. Don't they have an unfair advantage? The buggie driver are pretty brave considering how easily the whole thing wheelstands!
