The one thing I always liked about Wings of the Dope is how open to interpretation Buckley's Angel is. I find that the episode itself leaves enough evidence for both to be valid takes.

Well if you want to do a story arc around the death of a character, a minor character would be the safest bet, no one wants to lose a character they like, especially in a comedy. And I don’t think they made the after life cannon, as far as I know only Luann ever saw him as a ghost so it could just as easily imply her own personal trauma of him dying right after breaking up with him and wanting to have something else to say other then their last fight. More then likely it was just a shtick, since KOTH has never been super concerned with cannon. Crazy that people these days can’t just appreciate the fact some shows are written on a case by case basis with out an over arching medium in which all reality with in the show must adhere to precedent.

Realistically, none of us will be visited by an angel for that to happen but sometimes, new information reaches you that finally allows you to move on. Now the only reason that khan ever liked Buckley was because he annoyed Hank. I think to Hanks annoyance he doesn’t realize it but he is hanging out with Jesus

Hank would have been *very* awkward and uncomfortable about the social _faux pas,_ but yeah, he'd probably think it least a little funny.

There were a lot of episodes played out of order, I'm pretty certain that's exactly why Luanne mentions Buckley's Angel before he shows up. During season 3 her hair's length keeps changing randomly, rather than growing back out over the course of the season.
@Galamoth06 Жыл бұрын
There are a couple of other examples that are kind of funny, but you're probably already aware of them. For instance, Hank gets Peggy a new computer in "Hillenium," but in the next episode that aired she was still using her old Kaypro 10. She can also be seen driving her old Buick right after the episode where she gets a new convertible.

It always bugged me on the episode when Hank needed a new truck and his old truck was a first generation Ford ranger, but his truck was a second gen ranger in all the previous episodes.

The 2 songs associated with Buckley prominently feature the word "Hey": "Rock n Roll Part II" (pretty much the only word is Hey) and "Life in a Northern Town" (Hey oh ma ma ma...). This is just genius on the writers' part

I wonder how much liability Mega lo Mart had since Buckley may or may not have known not to drag the tanks by the valve. They also kept the tanks inside where the blast contributed to a larger inferno though ironically if they had the tanks outside where the crowd was more people would have died
@ExplorerDS6789 Жыл бұрын
And you're absolutely right about Buckley being in the intro for all 13 seasons. When the shows on Fox went HD, they all changed their intros, like The Simpsons' intro got a major overhaul, but with Family Guy and King of the Hill, they just traced over the old one. I mean, what the hell? With KOTH, that would've been a GREAT opportunity to add characters like Kahn, Minh, Connie, and Lucky! Or just have Luanne get in Lucky's truck instead of Buckley's bike. Why would they be so lazy as not to do that? They had a chance to remake the intro, and they blew it. Oh well, with the King of the Hill revival coming out next year, I'm sure we'll get a new intro. Sadly, one without Luanne and... well, I'm just going to say that Dale should be killed off, because NOBODY can replace Johnny Hardwick. Johnny WAS Dale. The character's mannerisms, quirks, jokes, those were all Johnny's creations. Just getting a soundalike won't work.

I hated the redone version of the *Simpsons* credits. It was more bloated and less expressive than the classic version. A redone version of the part with Marge and Maggie shopping is embarrassingly bad compared to what it replaced. At least the others realized "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
@ExplorerDS67898 ай бұрын
@@Attmay It was time to change it. That intro was from 1990 and didn't look like what the show had become.

I don't consider Luanne dumb. She knew how to work on vehicles, she was Peggy's catcher and she learned from many of her mistakes. She just came from a childhood without structure that was full of chaos. One of my favorite Luanne lines is, "I am a proud, ignorant woman!"

Looking at it again, it really does start to feel like the sins of Megalo Mart, and its real life inspiration, are being put on the back of one not especially bright 20 year-old. There are lots of reasons why that explosion shouldn't have happened, and the higher ups are responsible for a number of them. Buckley wasn't very smart, and his lack of intelligence actively got him killed, but he never should have been in that position in the first place. I'm not sure how much the show seems to recognize that. He definitely wasn't a very good boyfriend, though. No argument on that one.
@bcubed72 Жыл бұрын
I think the institutional failure of Mega-Lo Mart was on solid display that episode: how the staff are essentially untrained (don't even know what "hardware" is), the company doesn't reward knowledge and experience (unless "in-store"), etc. Even the name is a play on "Megalomania," meaning "pathologically power-obsessed." I mean, even a heel like Bud Strickland knew enough to recognize Hank's savant skills in propane, even if he was too petty to reward him properly. But MLM was too institutionally stupid to do even that.

Mike Judge is a lot more self aware and a lot better at satire than people give him credit for. Regardless of how the boomers and gen-x-ers saw this and said "the next generation is so weak and dumb and gay and fucked" I guarantee he knew what was up

11:13 I like to imagine that the mention of Buckley’s angel in Pretty, Pretty Dressed was simply an off-handed joke that they eventually decided to run with and make into an episode. There are a couple instances where this happens, like in Good Hill Hunting when Hank and Bobby are at La Grunta and look at brochures for a museum of miniatures and swimming with dolphins, both of which went on to become the basis for episodes.
