If videos like this were available to me when I was a teenager, my life would have taken a completely different path. It's a privilege to see first hand an artist like this at work, explaining the technical details this way. This is the best part of KZbin. 💙

Thank you! If I had videos like this 47 years ago (when I was 19) my career would have been off like a rocket.

Agreed Chris, I definitely could have seen myself as an upholstered had I learned about it many years ago. Now I do it just for fun

Hello, you make it look so easy. I was wondering if you could recommend a specific thread when reupholstering a gym bench. Could you also tell me the needle size to use in the machine.
@Buckminsterupholstery2 жыл бұрын
For the most part, I've been using Sunbrella brand thread. For years I used #69 nylon. Off hand, I can't tell you the gauge needle. #22 comes to mind. ? Suffice it to say, use a large gauge needle to help prevent skipping stitches.

@8:26 curious what your using over the staples as your hammering in the tacks?

That is a vinyl gimp I purchased over forty years ago, and hasn't been available for many years. I doubt I have enough to do another seat. I have a video showing use of carpet binding to make a similar trim.

Customer provided the hide. I have no idea from where.

I am planning to use a hair on hide from an Eland to reupholster an antique settee I just purchased, and the hide appears to be a bit thicker the calf hide you are using. I'm wondering if you could recommend a brand of pneumatic stapler to purchase.

I'm no expert on staple guns. If you've seen my Duo-Fast gun, it's 45 years old and staples are not as readily available as they used to be. I'm OK with my BeA 80 series gun for heavy applications. The 70 series might be a good choice. (I think that's a size smaller comparable to my Duo-Fast.?)
