I'm less than half your age and we did it every day. They played The Star Spangled Banner and you could sing along if you knew the words but right after that you were expected to say the pledge and there were consequences if you didn't. We remember, the country isn't doomed yet.

I have 2 boys and we try to raise them the way this song is written (though it’s hard due to the internet and such). It truly was a better time in life. So much more pure. The days we’re living in now are poisonous to the children. I’m thankful we live in the south and a lot of this song is still relevant nowadays. Kudos to Bucky for this song. @@studdmuffen8 it's obvious you don't get the song.
@yearginclarke2 жыл бұрын
@@studdmuffen8 Yeah, point out something that did happen in some circumstances, and brand it as the high flying flag of that generation. Great job! I grew up in a firmly non-smoking environment where second hand smoke was absolutely hated for the pollution that it is. And in the year 1990 when I was 5 years old, I already very well knew that lead based paint was toxic, because that was a fact that was just as well known then as it is now. I don't think I know ANYONE who wasn't well aware of the toxic lead paint from the old days. If you didn't go out of your way to eat old paint chips, you were fine. It was very simple and no more complicated than that.

Rhonda Boncutter: I recall that most parents made their children go outside right after breakfast. They thought it was awful for kids to just hang around the house. I remember lots of us would get out (or stay out) in the rain, but we knew how to dress for the weather.

I keep coming back to listen to this. Growing up in the late 60s, early 70s, THIS was my life. I'd ride my bike all around, never coming in until I was hungry or the streetlight came on. All of us kids did this. Thirsty? Grab the hose. No bottle or "special" hose needed. Man...I so wish to go back to simpler times. Way less stress.

You're so right. Look at Clint Black. He refused to play their games and as great as he was his career got squashed. So much of a singers' success depends on their record label, producers and managers and a singer just starting out has very little to input if they want to make it big. Bucky couldn't have faded away because of looks or lack of talent, because he had both. Someone didn't work hard enough for him, or he refused to play their games. I have heard it called the "Nashville mafia".
