Something to help for using the "==" instead of "=" for comparison is that you are testing to see if A "is exactly" B instead of if A "is" B.
@rednibcoding38277 жыл бұрын
No thats wrong! "=" is the assignment operator, so you only using it to assign a value to, lets say a variable. It is NOT a comparison operator like "==", "=" or "!=". Using "=" in a comparison would always result in "true" because statements are executed from right to left: int main() { int a = 100; if (a = 10) std::cout

Thanks so much for the tuts they are amazing! just a thought, I think you should define the use of strings and how they work along with the use of variables. I find myself trying to use strings early on for instance when you made a calculator, I went a further step and made the user choose which operator they wanted to use. Instead of allowing them to input text strings of add subtract multiply divide I was forces to use 1-4 input using basic intriguers and variables.

It's because you are changing x to be 87 and 87 is true. This will always return true. That defeats the point of the if statement and corrupts your data.

@rorymurphy56839 жыл бұрын
GHOST 👻 Your Program is a good start but completely wrong. You cannot start most commands with a upper case letter. I'm surprised "cout" even compiled correctly. The if statement does not function because you started with a capital and "else { if () }" is incorrect. The correct way to do this is "else if () {}". The fundamentals are well executed you just need to work on getting the syntax and usage done correctly. After all these little mess ups, the main problem is something that you would not know about. You need to overload the operator ">>" with a friend class, tutorial is located @ stackoverflow.com/questions/22588163/no-match-for-operator-in-stdoperator . You should also work on your indentation and organisation of your code , but that is not major for now it could just come back to bite you in the arse later. I have modified your code: #include #include using namespace std; int main() { string xyz; cout xyz >> endl; if (xyz == "yes") { cout
@xetrius36719 жыл бұрын
GHOST 👻 /* You used uppercase letters were they were not allowed and you added ">> endl;" behind your xyz variable I hope this helps, have a nice day! */ #include using namespace std; int main(){ string xyz; cout xyz;// here you added ">> endl;" if (xyz == "yes"){ cout

hmm apparently i can compare characters but not strings? And for some reason i can make a character be more then one letter. According to c++, 'hh' is greater then 'h'. But "hh" is not greater then "h". Also, "hh" is equal to "hh"; meaning the string can be determined identical but not greater or equal too. and WTF, when i made the string a variable SUDDENLY it can compare it greater or less then another string. But anyhow, there is a use for comparing two unstored constants. Haha, when your noob like me and really dont know if one pre-defined constant is greater then another..

haha well what if you inserted hex into the conditional to compare it? i mean yeah; you would have to not know how to compare constants to do the if for that. I mean there would need to be a way to ehm.. determine if 2 constants were greater then one another. If u think about it, the computer needs to know how 10 is greater then 9. How does it do that? Damn programming is really strange when u wrap ur head around it. I mean its strange as is that typing the conditional if like.. knows to do certain things.. I actually had to look up what the "if statement" is called. It is known as a "conditional".

You cant compare different types of variables. Try to write it down and run it, an error will occur. You ca though do this: you got String type x, you can check if the string is equal to something you want, so you make another int variable in what you want, so you can compare it to a number. Cant explain it better in english, sorry !
