Yes, that is true. He was born in Lumbini. He was a Hindu king before attaining Enlightnment. Anyways this is an Anime, which the story is also based on that, but since India is the bigger land, a lot of people believe that Lumbini is in India, which is understadable, so no need to get offended about it. It's not like even Lord Buddha's character is right in this Anime. It's still enjoyable nonetheless.
