Once, a donkey named Gopu lived in the hills. One sunny afternoon, Gopu was enjoying the sunshine and happily munching on the grass of a lush green meadow. He was so engrossed in eating the delicious green grass that he was not aware of anything in his surroundings. He heard a rustling sound in the near-by bushes and stopped chewing. He paused from his meal and turned his head around to see Shikari right behind him. Shikari was a hungry and cunning wolf. He had been out looking for something to eat and had found Gopu. Gopu realized that he needed to think of a plan quickly or else the wolf would devour him.
An idea struck Gopu and he began making loud sounds. He began to limp about and cry loudly.
“Oohhh, ahhh, it hurts so bad!”
Confused by his actions, Shikari asked him what was wrong. Gopu began to limp and said, “A sharp thorn has pierced through my foot while I was walking on the bushes and now I am in terrible pain! I cannot reach it.. Will you please remove it for me?”
“Why do you think I would do that?” asked Shikari, and thought to himelf how foolish the donkey must be. “I am waiting to eat him up and he wants me to help him and remove a thorn from his foot?” thought Shikari.
“Shikari, it is for your benefit that I am asking you to take out the thorn,” pleaded Gopu.
“What benefit will I get by helping you? You are my next meal!” asked Shikari.
“The thorn is very big and sharp. When you eat me, it will get stuck in your throat and will hurt you very badly.”
Shikari thought for a moment and then agreed to help Gopu . Gopu lifted his foot for Shikari, and as soon as Shikari came close to his feet, Gopu kicked Shikari with all his strength and galloped away swiftly.
Shikari was blinded and confused by the force of the kick. He could see stars and his head was spinning.
The donkey gleefully thought to himself as he skipped away, "I can't believe I tricked the mean wolf into getting a swift kick from me! He was so foolish! I am much smarter than people believe me to be!"

The art style can be characterized by the use of lines, dots and spirals to impart a sense of movement and create texture. The subject matter of Gond paintings are colourful descriptions of flora, fauna, daily life and local deities.
