Although Cambodian music is more like Gongs (Roneat, Gamelan) and flutes, this is kind of an interesting fusion between aboriginal music and Buddhist culture. So intriguing! Thanks for sharing!

I can't believe this was supposedly taken in 1907. The buildings look spectacular and very much the same as buildings there do today. I would have thought in 1907 buildings in Cambodia were all thatched huts but evidently not. Looks like Cambodia was a lot more advanced in 1907 than a lot of people think.

@@kmycherry Nah. What a ridiculous conspiracy theory. The Khmer leadership plotted and went ahead with killing all the educated Khmer people. Behind the Khmer rouge were American financiers (not public knowledge) and the Russians/Chinese also supported them with weapons and know-how, but certainly not neighboring countries. Yes, the Vietnamese invaded Cambodia but that was to put a stop to Khmer Rouge attacks across the Vietnamese frontier. It also helped to put an end to that murderous regime.

Most everyone now will refer to themselves as Khmer even if they are not ethnic Khmer, especially if the don’t live in ethnic villages. Heck I’ve even seen a video of a young girl denying she was an ethnic minority even though her aunt is and she was speaking in another language to her in Ratanakiri

This is a very interesting film, and thanks for putting it up. However, it certainly isn't the Pathé 1907 film, Moeurs cambodgiennes - the description of that film in the Pathe catalogue is quite different. There's also a contradiction with the date you give just below the film, i.e. 1910. Where did you come across the film, and what happens at the end - was there more to it?

We should be lucky to be able to watch this video, but not to blame or go into political background. Siem Reap, as I still remembered, that my grand father came from with all the people, whom were as his servants. He setup in Chaktomuk rivers and married to a local women. Please stop blaming : To the Khmer Rouge story: The people used the Khmer Rouge for their own interests, whenever it come to the conclusion. These people never talk, they were fleeing the country, because of the Vietnamese invasion and occupation. The Khmer Rouge did not exist anymore, when these people had the chance to flee. Without the Khmer Rouge, many of them, whom immigrated to the luxury western world might still struggling in the jungle of our country. l have to inform you, I have nothing to do with any regimes, who brought the Vietnam war into Cambodia. I left the country before 1970, but still remembered, the time after the coup d'Etat 1970 from my yearly 2 weeks vacation in Cambodia, that the country was not anymore the same as before. I don't blame General Lon Nol, or other Khmer leaders, but I strongly blame the foreigners, who make the profit from our beloved country and our people, because in their mind, the Khmer are the people too primitive and were not able to survive from the two Khmer people rivalities, Thai and Youn. I live most of my life in Europe, but am now very proud to be a primitive Khmer, then before.

@Niyorills Keep telling lies to the world. Learn and educated yourself. Being delusional and naive is not educated. Your so called Siam king is not above no one in this world, and I can care less about your king. Your fake history and culture will only reveal how ignorant and delusional and brainwashed the siamese think. Like the old saying goes..."When you tell so many lies, you start to believe in them." You are very well educated indeed, good job. And you act like your own people never killed your own people? Stupidity. Its call a civil war, or some kind of a conflict fighting amongst their own people(Political/For the throne) every country/civilization in the world has gone through it, throughout history. FYI the Khmer genocide wasn't just done by our own people, which is horrible. The Siamese, Viet Congs, and the illegal American bombings also contributed to the genocide. Go do some research if you are so educated. The Killings of thousands of Khmer refugees and Cham refugees by Siamese soldiers at Mount Dangrek. I'm not going to my time on uneducated ignorant, racist Siamese. Karma will get you, I promised you that.

Thailand did not invade…It was invented by the European Colonial Power…Language was changed or Fused between Khmer and Lao language due to Colonial Pressure…Divide and Conquer right in front of your eyes. Same as Vietnam…a Colony of the Portuguese, propped up with Westerner Military and propaganda. Want another example? Look at Israel, which is more extreme because the invaders are of Europeans themselves.
