I think this is the first time I seen the names of all of The Crickets - Thank you for sharing this. It hasn't been very long ago that I learned that J.P. Richardson was the name of the Big Bopper. Did The Crickets do anything musically together after Holly's death?
@theteacher8528 Жыл бұрын
@@donaldloehr4300 The Crickets went on to experience moderate success. Despite the band hiring a dead ringer for Holly's vocal prowess, David Box, and recording one of Holly's last demos, "Peggy Sue Got Married," nothing really stuck with the public from the band's post-Holly Coral and Liberty label releases. Box tragically died in a plane crash on tour in 1964 at age 21, much like Holly before him. Gradually, though, original band member Jerry Allison, along with new member Sonny Curtis-the two mainstays of the new group-ventured into touring, session work and songwriting, backing the Everly Brothers on their British tour, recording an entire album with teen idol Bobby Vee and even scoring a U.K. hit with a Goffin-King song called "Don't Ever Change." Curtis later wrote several songs including "Love Is All Around"-better known as the Mary Tyler Moore Show TV theme. The band's first post-Buddy album-1960's "In Style with the Crickets"-eventually produced two major hits for other artists: "I Fought the Law" would become the only U.S. chart-topper for the Bobby Fuller Four in 1966 and the Clash eleven years later, while "More Than I Can Say" topped at number two for Leo Sayer in a soft rock version from 1980. The group continued to tour and record sporadically in the 1970s, often with outlaw country legend Waylon Jennings, who had been part of Buddy's road band that fateful night but never got on the doomed plane. In 1988, Paul McCartney produced a new single for the group, "T-Shirt," which got some airplay. They also reformed in 2004 for an all-star tribute album featuring such luminaries as Eric Clapton, Phil Everly, Graham Nash, Vince Neil, John Prine, Albert Lee, Johnny Rivers, Rodney Crowell, Bobby Vee and, in one of his last recordings, Waylon himself. Buddy was ahead of his time. One of the greatest singer/songwriters ever. Recorded over 100 songs in his brief career many of which he wrote or co-wrote. He had to die before people recognized and appreciated his genius. Perhaps the most influential artist in Rock history.

Before I head out got to play two songs by Buddy Holly who died on feb 3 1959. I am still totally in awe of what this singer accomplished in so little time. And still find it hard to believe he was only 22 years old when he died in a plane crash. An amazingly sophisticated talent.
@freeguy775 жыл бұрын
He was only in the rock era for less than 2 years, but left an absolutely astonishing number of song legacies. He left behind dozens of unfinished recordings: solo transcriptions of his new compositions; informal jam sessions with bandmates; or tapes demonstrating songs intended for other artists. After his death, the demand for his records was so great, and Holly had recorded so prolifically, that his record label was able to release new Holly albums and singles for the next 10 years--1969. As it was, he inspired many important rock individuals and groups, who never would have been known or had classic songs in our memory if it wasn't for Buddy. Prime example: The Beatles, who took their eventual name as a cute cousin of Holly's 'The Crickets'. Charles Hardin 'Buddy' Holley, 22 (Sep. 7, 1936 Lubbock, TX - Feb. 3, 1959 Clear Lake, IA). The spelling was his original last name. Many people now celebrate September 7, to memorialize him, and not the awful Feb. 3 death date for him, J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, and Ritchie Valens. Rolling Stone magazine ranked him #13 in its list of "100 Greatest Artists" If he would have lived to just the age of 30 with his output of writing and performing, he would have been #1 in my opinion. "Rock 'n' Roll has been going downhill ever since Buddy Holly died." --'John Milner' (Paul LeMat), in 'American Grafitti" (1973; movie setting in 1962)
@jamiecolby6143 жыл бұрын
Waylon Jennings decided to take the bus with no heat, and gave his seat on the plane to Ritchie Valens because Ritchie was sick, the last thing Buddy said to Waylon was I hope you freeze your ass off, and Waylon said I hope your plane crashes. They were obviously joking with each other, they were close friends, but that haunted Waylon for almost his entire life. True story.

A little over a month ago I got a message from my uncle on my fb page. It was late and i was just about ready to go to bed. I went ahead and looked at the message from my uncle. He said we are related to Buddy Holly he is your cousin. My grandmother was from Oklahoma and Buddy was from Texas so it does make sense to me. My uncle had been working on our family tree and discovered this. My grandmother passed a few years back, I dont think she knew this. At first I thought I wish I could tell my grandma, but then I realized she does know. They're with the Lord .❤

An interesting fact: look almost just like him. I’m from Texas, have a bit of a similar voice, and play guitar and some other instruments. I remember singing a while ago and my parents and everybody said I reminded them of Buddy Holly. Then my parents looked at my family tree. There he was. On my family tree. I’m also same religion as him. I’m a baptist he was too. And I realized that my father looked like buddy too. I am happy to be related to him. I impersonate him Some information about Buddy Holly: Buddy Holly was only 22 when he died and sang since he was around 13. He was in a country and western duo with bob Montgomery for a while then he joined the crickets in late 1957. They had good songs together, such as, Oh Boy!, Peggy Sue, That’ll be the day, Everyday, and words of love. He was no doubt great at a lot. I don’t like him because he’s my relative, I like him because he has talent. I was a fan of him before I figured out I was related to him. But his band was mainly friends but he had his 3rd cousin by marriage join. Niki Sullivan was in there but then quit because he wasn’t a fan of the traveling. Then it was stuck with Buddy Holly, Joe B Mauldin, and Jerry Allison. Then the crickets got in a argument because Buddy wanted to record in New York. But Jerry and joe wanted to stay in Clovis New Mexico. Also Joe and Jerry were drinking a little bit. Then Buddy on a tour that took his life along with Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. Maria Elena Holly had a miscarriage and lost the baby. She was devastated and she never remarried again. February 3rd 1959 was then nicknamed The Day The Music Died. And there is some theories that Buddy shot The Big Bopper but there was no way it was possible for Buddy, Ritchie, or The Big Bopper to live. The last thing I want to say is.... R.I.P
