I saw him fall of 86 playing this same kit. Spoke with his drum tech after. Buddy played these by personal preference rather than by paid endorsement…and THAT is a sincere endorsement for these drums.

I do love this clip. I've heard it said that great music can make you feel emotional, & when the band come back in as a unit after the trumpet solo, the groove that is generated can make me well up with tears, such is the utter magnificence of it. Every time, without fail. Not a lot of music does that to me.
@imamurakosukejr.99936 жыл бұрын
I agree. I also like to see the master-and-pupil eye contact that Buddy and young Greg Gisbert sometimes show in this busy condition without breathing space. Erich Miyashiro, a hero in our country, smiled at the colleague praising the solo at the end.

His power, endurance, timing, phrasing and showmanship makes it hard to imagine he had that time bomb in his head that took him out the following year. Makes me wonder how much longer he could have been around if he hadn't had the brain surgery, but then again how might his quality of life suffered? I saw him live five times and met him once. Thrilled that we have videos to enjoy and be inspired by. RIP Buddy and best wishes to all fellow Buddyphiles.

A long gone and fantastic era. Together with the Maynard Ferguson, Buddy was the last one to tour and work extensively with a big band. The sound here is the result of touring 9 months out of the year which Buddy did with his various bands for the last 20 years of his career. The king!

Great song. Didn't feature Buddy as prominently as most other recordings of his band do but it was a nice change of pace, he's just back there anchoring the band and the wind players were really solid. Nice solos, especially the trumpet.
