I've watched a lot of matches from different territories like Memphis, Georgia, etc... There was nothing like Portland Wrestling. So exciting. Some of the greatest talent has come through here. I consider Frank Bonema to be right up there with Gordon Solie and Lance Russell. Piper vs Rose was Piper in his absolute prime. Rose carried the territory on his shoulders for years. Portland Wrestling in the 70's and early 80's was second to none. And yes, I'm biased. After all, I'm a Portlander.

Mike Popowich Really?? Portland Wrestling has a long tradition dating all the way back to the 1890's. The first World Wrestling Champion was crowned in the Pacific Northwest, one of the first Tag Titles started in the NW, and we have the honor of being the first territory to ever have a black man hold an NWA singles title in the United States. We bred countless legends, including Piper, Ventura, Snuka, Adonis, Gorgeous George, Scotty the Body, Brian Adams, Curt Hennig, Art Barr and a slew of other greats. We even had a guy named Mike Popovich!! Stick around, you might like what you discover in our collection of over 3,000 videos dating back to 1977!!

The Owen Promotion was one of the most respected in the country. Don Owen made fair deals, paid what he said he was going to pay and paid it on time. Many wrestlers were willing to take the extra time to come to Oregon because they didn't have to put up with any of the foolishness of other promoters. The NWA Champion made a yearly trip to Portland. There are videos of Ric Flair wrestling Buddy Rose. The NWA Champion's main job was to make a trip into the territories, put the belt up and make the local hero look good to fill the seats in the future.

Thank you very very much for these matches! I remember reading about Pacific Northwest in the 'Apter Mag's' back as far 82' I recall the Grappler,Matt Bourne (two of my faves) Rip Oliver and Billy Jack Haynes, being just a few of the Big Cats, wrestling out your way.So happy I now get to finally see them, and more in action for Pacific Northwest.I mainly saw them wrestle in Texas,Central States,Mid-Atlantic/Georgia.etc....I saw a good deal of Wrestling from the 'Territories' when I was young, but I never got to see much (if any) West Coast and Pacific action.Thank you for archiving this footage, this to me,is equivalent to a Philatelist coming across a rare and valuable Stamp. P.S. Being fairly close to Calgary, and to San Fransisco and L.A. did PN ever share talent with,or do cross-promo's with any of those territories? I know a touch about Stampede but, beyond the Samoans being larger then life in San Fransisco, and I heard of a few L.A. Wrestlers like Jack Armstrong, and Jerry Graham,California wrestling from the 70's and 80's,is still murky to me.Think Mr.Fuji and Prof.Toru Tanaka did a lot of business out West.

lol i used to read about the areas you saw in apter mags while growing up on PNW at that same time in the early 80s now i had an aunt and uncle id go stay with for the weekend now and then and they had one of those old expensive giant c band sat dishes and when I was there i was in heaven i got to tune into all of the territories that i kept up with in the apter mags!!!!! You mentioned Killer Brooks yeah this is also the only area that adrian adonis and smaller known wrestler as well named ron star who wrestled in other territories well this was the only place ever that they ever did face stints!!! In fact that is all they were those two when here!!!! The portland sports arena was the total forbeaer pIoneer to the ecw arena!! One strange thing thou as i have seen every territory there ever was at one time or another back then and PNW was the only one to never have managers like non wrestling managers that were always at ringside with you if you were a heel!! strange how they never even for a small time had them and it was common place everywhere then and was everywhere!! lol great memories

Miss Sherri Martel guided him and Doug Somers to The AWA World Tag Team Championships in the late Eighties where they feuded charismatically with the duo of Scott Hall and Curt Hennig. @@madbrowniac7871 I'm honestly surprised that Buddy wasn't a regular challenger during Curt's AWA title reign. They were familiar with each other and I think they could have some solid matches.
