Really enjoyed your review and hearing it played in these styles! Just one small note - the trem arm has an adjustment screw that determines how easily it rotates, so if you back the arm off a full turn, and adjust it, it should do what you need

I sold all my gear in 2008 or 2009 when I wasn't feeling music anymore. In 2018 I decided to try again. After watching Sarah Longfield and her 8 string Strandbergs... I dove in head first. Now I have 10 Strandbergs and an FM double neck bass. All headless. I love them.

@@MrGul Well in the "before time" from like 10/2018 to 3/2022 I was a mortgage underwriter. I was working a lot, but I was making a killing as well. Klarna used to let you make payments with Strandberg and at some point that went away. Sometime in 2020 or 2021 Klarna changed their policies (I think that's right). I paid for my last few with trade-ins and cash and paid off the rest. Sadly those days for me are over, but I still have a nice collection that's for sure.

Excellent review. If it makes people realise that these guitars are useable in any style of music, that's a service. The headless guitar with ergonomic body is the most significant innovation in electric guitar since the superstrat with locking trem: but it does everything its predecessors do. And I can really hear why you like that humbucker.

Good stuff, I look forward to seeing more in this series. I frequented many blues-based open mic nights in San Antonio TX back in the 90s and early 2000s. Any "non-standard" gear was usually immediately dismissed regardless of the level of talent exhibited by the player. So what ended up happening was endless parade of guys with Strats & hats rehashing Stormy Monday, Mustang Sally and any SRV licks they could manage. I was also guilty of that behavior at one point.

Yes, Strandberg guitars are great and unique. Creativity is in you, but also coming from trying things out... Sometimes it pays to push your own limits to discover something new. This applies not only to music... I was surprised how good guitars sound that I normally not would touch. Today I like very different guitar types like baritone guitars, a Duesenberg Starplayer, Maybach Lester, a Telecaster, 7- and 8- string guitars.... It's inspiring to play different instruments and it's a good training to leave your own comfort zone. I like blues and metal, but also everything between. That's why I like your channel, because I can discover new things here. 🙃

Thank you again for making this video! I commented ~4 months ago on my other channel (theinfinitefret) about being close to switching to headless, multiscale guitars. Since then, I bought a budget 7 string, used, to give it a try. It is night and day for me. It is amazing what these guitars have done for me in terms of endurance and less pain (joint issues). I had pretty much given up bending strings, and some chord shapes were off limits. Now I can play for much longer and am able to bend strings - slowly getting my form back after years of struggling to play at all. I've bought a couple more guitars with different neck profiles and am hoping to try a Strandberg 7 in a store sooner or later before settling on the optimal neck for my hands. Your video popped up today on this channel, so I watched again. Really great that someone did a blues video on Strandberg guitars. Buddy Guy should play one of these!!

I have one of these, and for me the biggest adjustment is the fanned frets. They just take some getting used to. The guitar also really sounds pretty great, which can be hard to tell from the typical Strandberg artist video, as most seem to use a very homgenized sort of distorted compressed tone that doesn’t let much guitar personality through. This video shows a very different side, thank you. I also shortened the height on my bar by roughly 3mm, because for me it just sat up that much too high. It hasn’t become my #1 go-to yet, but after a year I dont regret buying it, and play it more and more frequently. It’s a pretty incredible instrument.

lol this is great! I loved when you showed the pictures of blues guitarists' hand positions. I am close to making the switch to fanned due to hand/body/joint/muscle issues. If they are making "strat" versions of headless fanned-fret guitars, then there must be a lot of people who are tired of fighting the traditional perpendicular fret paradigm. Thank you for giving us a blues man's perspective on these guitars!

The two problems I have, one there is none below $1000 and two most music stores don’t carry it for me to check out. I’m more likely to find a Schecter, Ibanez, or Jackson multi scale before this. I am interested in this but it already has two strikes for me as stated. It’s made in Indonesia I think (the whole line now) and start at $1600 unless you an somehow grab a Resqd for $1200 which is always out of stock but still out of most people’s budget. Great video and playing. Thank you for demonstrating it outside of prog metal which is the only videos I find on this guitar.

I always play in a classical position with my thumb at the back of the neck, except the likes of playing high notes and bending strings, because I don't have the range across all 6 strings if I cradle the neck. Thumbing low notes is close to impossible for me. It's more a lack of range of thumb motion than my average sized hands. Anyway, it looks like that guitar would still suit the way I play. I'd use the tremolo. I'd prefer 2 humbuckers with a 3-way toggle though. Maybe a push pull knob for split coil if I wanted a single coil sound.

Observation after owning one for four years, inner arm part nor comfy, extremely light, very acoustic yet quite less resonant then my 30 years old Fender strats but also Kiesel Holdsworth. Beautiful rhythm and chord reach through out the neck. It is worrh owning one though not for everyone. I find the esthetics and pick and play feel really great. Interestingly love to play it with my fuzzes due to the acoustic dry quality.

So does it sound / feel like you are more in tune. So the whole idea for the fan Frets is the intonation?
@BuddyBlues
@BuddyBlues Жыл бұрын
Multi-scale, intonation, and ONLY in my opinion, suits how the fingers play naturally. Does this mean all straight fretted guitars should be shucked in the bin, no of course not, but ergonomics is the goal for these guitars along with feel playability and tone. I sound like a spokesperson for the company and I have zero stake in this 😂. But it’s really true

Thanks you took some of the mystery out of this. Maybe I'll have to go put my pants on and go find one and try it for myself
@822nivla
@822nivla Жыл бұрын
There are 2 reasons for the fanned frets, imo. Buddy showed us the most important one - they slant in sympathy with the angle of your fingers as you go up the neck. The other reason is the multi scale - the strings are progressively longer from high to low. Thinner strings are thus shorter and the fatter strings are longer. This impacts tone and tension. Think of the fact that a bass has a longer scale and a mandolin has a shorter scale.
@TENNcaveman

Thankfully you made a great demo of what I had imagined as being a killer guitar with some modern ergonomic features. Any issues with the string ends at the head end? Also curious, as we get older, arthritis comes into play. Do you think it could help folks play longer due to hand pain?

As I type this I am currently wearing a wrist brace for carpal tunnel and dorsal wrist syndrome. I’m in my mid thirties so I’m afraid it’s not just age that comes into play with these things.. but yes. Absolutely will help. It’s designed to never ever get in the way of you playing the instrument which was the most surprising thing about this guitar for me. And the string ends aren’t an issue

@danielschenker9874
@danielschenker9874 Жыл бұрын
Fanned frets don't do anything for intonation. The point is the low strings have long scale length, like a fender, and the high strings have a shorter scale length, like a gibson. The low strings are snappy and you can riff aggresively without them bending out of tune. The high strings are looser, making bending easier.

Kinda wish this came without a pickguard like their other models or at the very least a pickguard that matches the body. They don't really look pretty to me like this but the other models do since their designs look more cohesive

It's an interesting guitar, for sure. However, unfortunately for me, every Strandy that I ordered came with major flaws. I'm not even sure how they passed thru QC. I envy those who get perfect ones. Haha.

as strange as this could sound, I believe strandberg is sitting on some incredibly beautiful guitars, if only they had a nice headstock. No headstock really ruins the whole look for me. Headstocks are beautiful. What benefit you get by getting rid of them? are they REALLY that heavy? Do they REALLY make the guitar that much bigger? I don't see any advantage there. It made more sense if you looked at some of the older strandberg models which were really made for traveling. But this is roughly a regular size guitar.

A strandberg is about 30% shorter than a regular strat and a lot lighter too, so it's actually pretty noticeable. As to the headstock, the extra chunk of wood isn't that heavy by itself but add the tuner and the fact than it's all the way at the end of the neck really mess up the balance. The fact that you can put remove all that wight and but the tuner in the bridge much closer to the center of gravity makes for an incredible balanced guitar. I get that that's a aesthetic you have to get used to, but really does serve a purpose and add to the playability and comfort of the instrument, it not just for the looks.

@huanton2many how exactly does it look like it’s stiff to bend? I’m not trying to be a smsrtass I’m trying to understand. What does “because it looks like it” mean?

@huanton2many cool. No one is struggling, a guitar is a guitar, don’t know why it would bend harder than others. The only struggle has been trying to understand this thread. Cheers

Nice review. I am not a fan of the zero fret. It will wear out and cause issues.
