2 years ago I purchased the OSD Nero XA7180 Multi Channel (7x) Home Theater Amplifier. It has been EXCELLENT!!! Clear, clean, powerful sound, and over the past two years it has performed flawlessly! IMHO... I would say OSD Audio are currently the best quality and performance amplifiers for the the price right now, period. I have been an audio enthusiast for over 30 years and am that crazy guy with microphones and Room Equalizer Wizard (REW) who calibrates my room manually. The amp runs Arendal 1723 S front monitors and 1961 monitor surrounds. I run a pair of self-powered JTR Captivator 18" subs and they match the front and surround speakers power output and all balance well together. If you are in the market, definitely give OSD Audio a shot.

Picked up an HTA7200 and a HTD8150 on sale a couple of months ago after watching your overview of them and I couldn't be happier. Plenty of clean power and sound coupled with an attractive and minimalist design. I did find the green LED on the HTD was a bit distracting since all of the other LEDs on both units were blue. So I just put a small piece of gaffers tape over it. Overall I'm extremely happy with both amplifiers and I can't wait for you do to an indepth review of both of them.

Being able to take a rack mounted solution and actually bridge it and have essentially a crossover function means you can run passive subs at will basically anywhere. Its just cool that they would even think about that.

I'm struggling to decide between the HTX8150 and the HTA7200. I like the smaller size and bridging feature on the HTX, but according to the spec sheet and a support agent, bridged mode is only rated for 8 Ohm speakers and anything below that may trip the protection mode and could damage the speakers or amp. Without bridging, the HTX is a fair bit weaker than the HTA, which is making it hard to choose. Does anyone here have one of the HTX amps, and have you had any problems with it going into protection mode when using it bridged?

Question... if i have a Receiver and running the pre-outs to an amp for power instead of using the Receiver power , will the Receiver run cooler?
@Youthman3 ай бұрын
It likely depends on whether or not you can turn off the internal amplification in your AVR. Even if it’s running idle, it’s going to generate heat. The newer, Marantz units have Preout mode which completely turns off the internal amps.

👍🏼👍🏼 !!! great review Youthman. OSD is making some good noise in the audio segment. Question, do you know of the XLR connections are fully differential? I do wish they made at least some IP outdoor (weather resistant) amplifiers. TIC is the only reasonable option but their power ratings aren't great.

Simons reply. We have the WRA amplifier which is outdoor rated and can be controlled by our App via Wi-Fi. It’s 50 watts per channel times 4 into 8Ohms. Not super powerful. He’s checking on the fully balanced question, but at that price point he does not think they are.

Can the 11 channel amplifier drive 8 ohm speakers?
@Youthman3 ай бұрын
Of course. Any amplifier can drive more higher ohms. It’s when you get down to lower Ohms that it demands more power from the amp and not all amps can do that.
@watkinsjason3 ай бұрын
I would certainly hope so. 😂
@Youthman3 ай бұрын
No question is a dumb question. Not everyone realizes how impedance works. If they see specs rated for 4 ohms, it’s only natural to wonder if it will work with other impedance.
@michaelnyansafo73433 ай бұрын
@@Youthman so in this case what will be the power rating in 8 ohm and also can we get them in the uk?
@Youthman3 ай бұрын
Simon didn't say but as you can see from their website, they tend to state both 4ohm and 8ohm measurements - www.osdaudio.com/osd-nero-hta7200-multi-channel-7x-home-theater-amplifier.html So we should expect them to do the same once they add the product to their website and are available for purchase later this year.
@carlosoliveira-rc2xt3 ай бұрын
Those xlr connections don't cost much because it's a convenience connector and the amp is not a true balanced design which does cost a lot more because essentially you're duplicating the circuitry.

@simonspears78923 ай бұрын
If you have the impedance v's frequency curve I will be able to tell you whether or not the amps can deal with the impedance. 2.8 Ohms is a lot easier than 2.0 Ohms and not uncommon. Many 4 Ohm rated amps can handle 2.8 Ohms at certain frequencies, including ours.

@Youthman2 ай бұрын
If you are comparing to other amplifiers, it’s definitely in the budget category. It’s not referring to any one’s personal budget.
@KillerSneak2 ай бұрын
@@Youthman well that’s the whole point I’m trying to make behind terms like “budget”, budget is relative to ones income/budget/hobby? I can see how for someone like you this can be considered “budget” relative to its price and what you’re able to spend. For me this will be many months of saving money (when possible) and taking into consideration if it will be plausible to get. Don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to be negative in any way or form. It’s just some times the terms “rub” me the wrong way a bit 😅

I understand what you’re saying. Think of it this way, if you’re shopping for a mansion, and you find one listed for $1 million, would you say that is a budget friendly mansion? Absolutely. If you’re shopping for an exotic sports car, if you found one for $100,000, would that be a budget friendly exotic sports car? Again the answer is yes. So, in this case, your shopping for an 11 channel amplifier, what else can you find near this price point? Would you agree this is a budget friendly 11 channel amplifier? Indeed it is because Emotiva’s 11ch is $2,300, Monolith is $2,500. When I say something as budget, friendly, it’s in the context of the type of product that you’re considering, not someone’s disposable income because that varies from person to person.
