The backfire issue means its running rich and its damaging your cat. If you look at it theres probably pieces of it chipping off from the gasoline. The clutch might need to be replaced altogether for something more heat resistant. Probably cant keep up. But then you gotta replace the parts that control it so they don't wear down before the clutch does. Good shit tho, the Z is always a good project car.
