I love how you tackled the topic of what is considered premium, because many people only consider a board premium if it comes with a high price tag. Like when people considered the PE foam sound of the Jelly Epoch a premium sound until the community realized that the PE foam sound was an attainable sound. The keyboard community has a habit of confusing price+scarcity with premium.

Because a high price is in the dictionary definition of premium, which I think actually reflects how this word is most frequently used. There are other words you can use if you don't want to imply a high price.

@@haomingli6175 Dictionary definition of premium would be around insurance policies, shares of a stock, an additional price added to the ordinary price of a good, etc. Not necessarily "HIGH" price. The truth is the term premium is just misused. If someone said they paid a "premium" for an aluminum case keyboard, or for tri-mode PCB, or for a knob, or for a PVD weight, or whatever then THAT would make sense. You are paying EXTRA over the ordinary price for something. That doesn't speak to the quality or even worth beyond monetary of that thing you paid a premium for. You might pay a premium for something that is actually of LOWER quality or makes the product WORSE. They are plenty of examples of that. In the end this is a problem with societies use of language, something that has continued to get worse over time.

I think for me, premium in the keyboard hobby is best embodied by focus. I think the common theme in budget boards that are “less premium” have a ‘one size fits all’ kinda approach, where they’re trying to make every potential customer happy and find something they can enjoy. Boards typically regarded as premium are laser focused on a purpose or a style or sound profile. Premium boards have an inspiration, or they have a specific one gimmick that makes it worthwhile to keep as a premium board. Things like QC and premium ano just can’t be the differentiating factor anymore, when QC has gotten so much better across the board.

One thing that most people in this hobby do not understand is that this should be about the typing experience. I hate this budget king, premium nonsense. People complain about GMK, others love it. People still like budget keebs. Me for instance, get the most satisfaction if I make the worst sounding board sound awesome and fun to use. I like wireless, some people don't. We just have to agree to disagree for some things. Just like Dillon said, who I am to disrupt your enjoyment. The whole point of this hobby is for us to love our keyboards and enjoy using them, and to attract other people into doing that as well. Fantastic video man, as always. I love the whole tone, the use of space, the lightning, the fonts you used. Really superb filmmaking.

What a beautifully made video - it was well worth the wait! Your brief point about how people are discussing why the Jane's so expensive vs people discussing how the QK boards are so cheap really caught my attention. I recently saw an argument in the comments of some video about the Chimera65 and how it's so expensive but the foam kit has to be purchased separately, and some people didn't like that. I think that circles back to your point about intent being a big part of the concept of "premium". Some of these more expensive boards were designed by the designers intentionally to not be used with foam, so they just choose not to include it. But if you're willing to buy into that product, yet you want foam, then surely you're willing to shill out a little more for the foam kit. And if you don't agree with that, you don't have to buy that board. Hopefully both budget and high-end enjoyers can eventually wrap their heads around the idea of intent and how it can play differently into different boards and how they're priced. Like you said, at the end of the day, if you enjoy the product, no matter how much it costs, then it's premium to you, and no one can take that away from you.
