Thanks 🙏 Yeah, to date I’ve bought every gaming laptop I’ve ever covered, and about 95% of all laptops overall for review. I guess it’s a business investment, and it really does help me do things my own way. I don’t mind review units whatsoever but I think there needs to be a balance. Otherwise how can someone understand the importance of value? If everything was just sent to me and I was rolling in cash then I don’t think I’d appreciate the importance of good pricing

Thanks for the thorough breakdown I picked up this machine after watching your review! I ran cinebench and one of my cores is staying at 100 degrees C for the duration of the test. In regular use this core is usually between 10 - 20 degrees hotter than other cores. I understand it will get hot because of the stress test but I wonder if the thermal paste hasn't been done well on my unit. I used performance mode using cinebench and the fans kick up high. I watched your footage again and couldn't tell when you ran cinebench, did any of your cores stay on 100C for the period of the test? or just spike at the start ? I look forward to hearing from you, my exchange period is coming up and I am curious about your thoughts if this is normal behaviour for this model.

I have the 2023 version of the same with the RTX 4070 (weirdly it was the same price as the RTX 4060 when I bought it) and the 7840 processor. It has a black keyboard and a black surround that matches it in my case - might be a UK thing, not sure. I love the silent mode - it isn't silent and I do think quiet mode would be a better description, but it's good enough, and I really don't like fan noise - and it is excellent for gaming and worth the small sacrifice in FPS to use that silent mode. I'd call it mid-range rather than budget - it's a lot more expensive (almost double) than the Acer Nitro 5 I bought a couple of years ago which had an RTX 3070 inside it and an Intel chip - and I'm more than happy with it, both for gaming and for development work; I've also done a little video production with it and that went fine as well.

hey Beau, have you seen the new HP Envy x360? They look very close to the spectre, with a 7U processor, 32GB RAM and no Arc graphics. Also no haptic touchpad but that's not a big deal IMO. It looks very interesting, especially that CPU, I wonder if you can get it for review.

How does this compare to the the Yoga Pro 9i? For gaming (Mainly plugged into a 34 inch 1440p monitor) and as a daily work computer for Software developer. I’m really on the fence on what to get. I’ve been looking at G14/16 2024 models as I liked their new design but they seem a bit pricey for what you get. The G14 4070-model and the Yoga Pro 9i is about 3k usd in Sweden. Do you have any recommendations for a lost soul? Edit: Great and informative videos btw

Legions are full fledged gaming laptops and have some of the best cooling systems you get on laptops. So a Legion should outperform the Yoga, as Yoga is meant to be a workstation laptop and is considerably lighter than this one. That's the thing with gaming laptops, most of the time you trade weight for cooling and therefore performance.... it's why Legion 7s are so heavy. Pick your poison: 1. Yoga I believe has an OLED display, which is excellent for multimedia and gaming but if you're gonna work on it for long hours, it will be prone to burn in. 2. Yoga will also probably have better speakers and a full metal build. 3. Legion will have the better cooling and performance. Depending on what your needs are, pick any one.

Hello, very good review. I just bought slim 5 14" 32gb RAM, and its nice, however I do not see much of a difference between quiet and performance mode other than unacceptable fan noise in performace mode:) Actually I do not understand why in some game GPU is not pushed higher but staying around 40W in quiet mode, and after change to performace mode around 90W I have pretty same FPS - yeah that is strange. Anyway I do really like 14" form factor, because its just lighter and smaller, but I am thinking about slim 5 16" with rtx4070, I know there is not much of a difference at least on paper on YT test, just wanted to ask for Your opinion here. cheers

You're videos are so informative, really helping me choose a laptop, it's fantastic! I'm torn between this Legion 5 Slim Gen 9 16" with a 240Hz screen, or the Legion 5 Slim Gen 8 14" OLED. I really like the idea of gaming on those quieter modes and performance configuring you showed in this video, is the gen 8 14" just as capable with this? I'm worried the gen 8 14" is inferior, but I'm being a sucker for the OLED 😂. And maybe the 240Hz screen is sufficient. Which would you go for, gen 9 16" or gen 8 14"?

ddr5 runs in dual chanel even if one slot btw …With DDR5, instead of having one 64-bit channel per module, it's split into two 32-bit channels (+8 bits ECC) per module, for more efficient memory access. So it will already show "2x 32-bit" for a single module, even though physically from the board's side, it runs in single-channel mode.

After all my research in looking for an affordable $1300 range gaming laptop that also has decent battery life for me to be able to use in college I keep coming back to Lenovo slims. I’ve been stuck between this and the legion 5 slim OLED. The oled not having upgradable ram killed it for me but after I saw it apparently has flickering in hesitating to buy it now. It’s driving me insane that this model doesn’t have really any videos on KZbin talking about it except for you and 1 other channel I can find. This is currently on sale with the 350nit screen and 16gb ram for $1300 but the OLED 14 is going for $1250. I told I keep waiting I’m afraid the sale on this model will be gone. The 4070 CAN push those watts, but remember wattage sharing is between cpu and GPU. So in gaming it won’t get to 140 Furthermore, there is quite literally no reason to push a 4070 to 140 watts. @@Franciehatescoffeeicecream I see. This is why I went for Legion 5 pro with 3070 ti instead. More ports, proper type c charging. One could say "but the 2023 version Pro 5 has proper type c charging" to which I'll say - it only comes equipped with HX CPUs which results in terrible battery life. 2021 and 2022 models were the best of both worlds, then Lenovo ruined it.

Man is so hard to buy laptops nowadays, the 40XX series ( at least 4050->4070 ) AREN'T much better than the 30XX series. I have a 3070 and it performs better than a 4060 and slightly lower than a 4070. They used to really feed those more power, now after 100watts u get so little improvements in performance ( even if it says it's 140 watts, you rarely get 125 or past that, even so...the performance isn't much higher @ 120-130W ). It's true there's some improvement, but to get a new laptop after 3 years, I expected much more, not a slight increase when you consider that laptops got even more expensive. Even on the CPU side, after 3 years comparing my old 5800H with this 8845HS, same number of cores/threads, it has 600 more Mhz in base frequency and 700 in boost + some more cache. It's true, there is improvement ( considerably more when compared to the GPU side), but games...don't really take much advantage of that...GPU is the main factor for games and any decent CPU from the past 3 years will do just fine in most games if you have a powerful GPU paired with it and proper cooling. Maybe next year...hopefully we'll have some 50XX series paried with new intel / amd CPUs with considerable performance gains. And I'm talking about proper intel CPUs, not those Ultra Core, those are quite low performance ( especially for the money they cost ). It's true they're efficient and provide more battery life, but ... if you buy a new laptop nowadays I feel like you should consider the 14700/14900 HX or the newest AMD...the performance is waaay better. Anyway...praying my Asus holds on for one more year!
@TechGuyBeau
@TechGuyBeau Ай бұрын
You should watch my video comparing 2022 legions to 2023/4. That will help you get a handle on what improvements 4000 series has made. A 5800h however doesn’t remotely compete with a 8845hs. Cores and frequencies are only part of the picture
@93xDmario

@@TechGuyBeau yeah, I mentioned the CPU improvements are quite considerable, but how much it matters in games, it's probably not as much as the difference in a pure CPU stres test comparison.
